I've been a member of the Club since '98. I started to stray in my teens years but I was still active with events and volunteering. I'm also maybe 1 of 5 people who have never worked at the club lmao; they remind me all the time too! But I wouldn't change anything despite all the upgrades.
I have a lifetime of memories and I'm still making more but my favorite memories were Halloween of course and the end of the summer trips.
I have been involved with the West End House since 2014. The WEH has helped me in so many ways and I wouldn’t be the person I am today without them. Some of my favorite moments are visiting during the school year and catching up with everyone at the club. I‘ve also enjoyed being a mentor to the youth at the WEH and watching them grow up to do incredible things with their life.
West End House is a true cornerstone of the Allston (and overall Boston) community. Every staff member is welcoming and full of love for what they do. West End is much more than a youth development agency. The energy and passion is unparalleled. Kids are the number one priority and are able to participate in many wonderful activities and learn so many things. I don't know where I would be if it wasn't for the services I received at the West End House.
My sister and I started volunteering with the West End House and were blown away by the facilities and the exceptional staff. The West End House is an incredible organization providing a safe space and numerous learning opportunities for its kids and their families, including a state of the art gym, work out room, theater and performance arts auditorium, as well as music, arts, and teen programming. They have even launched a food delivery program for their families to address food insecurity during the pandemic and have provided over 200 tons of food to over 1,400 individuals from over 300 families. The staff are passionate about the organization and treat everyone like a family member.
Great facilities. Gives kids and young adults the opportunity to receive tutoring, stay active, and learn skills like cooking and music. Ability to deliver food to families. Staff is involved and helpful.
I volunteer for the West End house delivering food from their food pantry every other week. It is so impressive how they were able to quickly assess what families in their programs and in our community needed in the pandemic. And then they organized the food pantry. I don’t think they ever did one before. Now I think they plan to continue it because the need is not going to abate anytime soon. And for me they are so organized that it is an easy activity for me to help with. I just get my list grab my bags and go. Their staff organizes everything
I volunteered with the food program, delivering groceries to food-insecure families. I loved my interactions with the families, and the young staff that run the program. It was often the high point of my week.
I volunteered with WEH and was amazed how much more they do for their students and staff than I was expecting. Though I wasn't able to interact directly with the students due to Covid, I helped deliver/package food, as well as tutor a student for several months. All the staff was extremely invested, energetic, and purposeful. They care for the students greatly, and it shows in the quality of interactions with volunteers, care of the building, attention to detail in planning, and programs offered. I'm excited to get more involved in WEH once Covid restrictions begin to lift!
The West End House, what an amazing place. Summer camp, after school, sleep over camp and teen events. Both my kids did it all and loved it. My daughter also did a fellowship there and got college application help and advice. She was a lifeguard there and I taught swimming there. She coached the softball team while in high school. It’s the place my kids learnt their adult skills. I love it there so much I returned to volunteer. A working single moms dream place. It’s a family place.
No short blurb can properly describe the amazing work that happens day in, day out at the West End House. From early-stage reading programs to college prep support for high schoolers, youth athletic programs promoting physical fitness to providing food service support for health at home, the team works tirelessly to provide a nurturing and supportive atmosphere for members and their families both at the club and in the broader community.
We started delivering meals through the West End House at the beginning of the pandemic. They quickly set up an incredibly sophisticated and well-run meal delivery program, ensuring that families in our community received support when they most needed it. Their staff is so friendly and dedicated to the families they serve. We've loved working with this organization and highly recommend it to anyone looking to get involved at the local level!
West End House is a mobilized, cultural center of our community -- truly one of the premier youth organizations in Boston. They have an incredible balance of stability/strength (being over 115 years old) and innovation (developing/adapting to the mission-driven need of the children and families we serve).
West End House understands how to listen to our community and deliver world-class programs that address those needs, always being conscious of the diverse perspectives and opinions that inform our decisions.
