In 1959 I joined the Y and was a Dolphinette ('water ballet' aka synchronized swimmer.) I left after WHS graduation in 1960. I returned in 1968 and taught aerobics etc. and was Y camp director that summer. I left to get my MED at CWU. In 1987 I finally returned HOME---to MY Y in Wenatchee. Not only has MY Y exceeded expectations on a NORMAL day, but it has flown us to the moon by persevering in getting members back on track in spite of the Covid19. The Y is ... familY!!!

Mission: The mission of the Wenatchee Valley YMCA is to strengthen youth, families, and communities by promoting christian principles and putting them into practice through leadership and programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

Programs: Health enhancement programs: The YMCA health enhancement programs stress the value of prevention through sound physical activities and healthy lifestyle habits. A positive environment and supportive staff build a spirit of community that encourages participants who need consistent support to reach their wellness goals. A reduced fee membership is available to individuals whose annual income is less than $25,000 and to households whose annual income is less than $40,000. The availability of affordable programs, facilities, and equipment contributes to the health of the community. YMCA health enhancement program offerings including coach connections, group exercise, personal training, cancer survivors rehabilitation program, water exercise, strength and functional fitness training, cardiovascular training, lap swim, basketball, racquetball, family activities, Tai Chi, and group cycling. YMCA health enhancement programs collectively had over 5000 unduplicated participants in 2019.
Youth Development; The YMCA youth and teen programs provide quality, enrichment activities led by appropriate role models in positive environments for children who might otherwise be unsupervised. Participants develop self esteem and good values like caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The YMCA youth and teen outreach focuses on child care, after school and out of school enrichment, youth sports, teen strength training, swim lessons and recreation swims. This allows children to develop new skills and provide positive outlets for youth to thrive. No child is ever denied participation because of inability to pay. The YMCA youth development programs served over 4000 unduplicated youth in 2019.
Camping: Lake Wenatchee YMCA camping programs promote spiritual awareness, environmental education, physical well-being and social growth. We emphasize character development, teaching new skills, and are designed to build self esteem in children and teens. Financial assistance is available to children unable to afford the regular fees. The YMCA also provides outdoor education and recreation for a number of schools and not-for-profit organizations. the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camping programs collectively served more 3,000 people in 2019.
