Causes: Counseling, Mental Health
Mission: Wellspring is a non-profit counseling center and outreach ministry that provides mental health services and education in a professional, christian and holistic way in order to bring about transforming change in individuals, communities and for generations to come.
Programs: Direct services: in 2016, wellspring had twelve licensed therapists, nine registered therapists, and three masters' level counseling interns who provided at least 6761 professional counseling sessions to the greater miami community and beyond. In january, wellspring added a fourth location to provide services at touching miami with love's homestead location. Wellspring had therapists of different genders, ages, and ethnicities; providing counseling in english, spanish and portuguese with expertise in a wide variety of mental health conditions. Wellspring therapists treated issues such as anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, depression, marital and family difficulties, addiction and other areas of desired change. Wellspring provided counseling services using a variety of techniques that included cognitive behavioral therapy, emdr, experiential art therapies and horse-assisted psychotherapy. Wellspring's holistic approach to mental health assisted clients with reaching their goals for the physical, intellectual, emotional, social, behavioral and spiritual aspects of their lives. Wellspring's standard rates for counseling fell below customary fees in the miami community. Wellspring provided access to services to clients with financial needs through a financial aid program. These fee reductions were provided through offering direct discounts to clients for counseling, donor supported sponsorships as well as through services provided by supervised counseling interns. Clients who were able to pay for counseling through insurance billing or self-pay were encouraged to do so. In addition to individual counseling services, wellspring also provided two one-week intensive trauma resolution therapy programs for youth suffering from post-traumatic stress related to traumatic events in their lives such as divorce, death, sexual abuse, and community violence. This program provided psychoeducation in trauma, individual therapy, group therapy, and horse assisted-psychotherapy for thirty youth ages 9-18. In september of 2017, wellspring was awarded a community-based organization grant from miami-dade county to continue the program for an additional three years.
community education: wellspring provided mental health training, workshops, seminars and retreats for the miami-dade community. Wellspring provided seven workshops on topics including marriage, healthy eating, personal boundaries, grief and loss, intentional listening, and mental health strategies for ministry leaders. Wellspring staff participated in 13 local outreach events to promote mental health and offer experiential educational opportunities to enhance the emotional wellbeing of individuals. These events including schools, churches, and networking organizations. Hurricane irma was a natural disaster that happened in september of 2017. Wellspring received sponsorship to provide a disaster emotional relief through an event in florida city. This event provided trauma psychoeducation and group emdr to adults, youth, and children. In addition, counseling services were available for individuals who needed additional therapeutic support in the aftermath of the storm. In the fall of 2017, wellspring on the air debuted on 90. 9 lifefm as a radio program airing three times per week where wellspring therapists provide mental health education with a faith-based emphasis.
