The people of the We Care Food Pantry have truly been there for us as well as the entire community. Not only do they support us with monthly food boxes, but everyone knows that we can count on these good people to help any way they can. I thank the Lord for providing for us.

I have been a volunteer for more than five years. This program is a successful program because of the more than 150 volunteers, ordinary people doing extraordinary things. We all are aware that our praises and raises are awards that are given when we become known as extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. Never awarded monetary rewards, just a fullness in our heart that we are helping people in need.

Many years ago in the world of make believe there was a little engine that believed with perseverance, optimism and hope anything could be accomplished. Fast forward to the real world and the years 2005/2006 and you will discover in Homosassa FL, Diane Toto and The We Care Food Pantry which she and several members of this community have founded. Little engines all of them!!

I have been a volunteer since 2008 and have been given a new birth since I became involved with new neighbors, friends and strangers who are in need of food.

It’s a challenge to feed nourishing food to families, it’s easy to fill boxes with standard basics to fill hungry tummies and yet the pantry adds: dairy products, fresh eggs, frozen/fresh meat, veggies, bottled juices, milk and water. Everything to maintain a healthy family.

Our challenge is to give our clients a hand up and not a hand out.
One might say this is impossible, oh, no! Our mission is to do just that. The pantry started serving about 100 clients, we now are feeding approximately 2600 people and sharing with 37 agencies and churches on a monthly basis. In an average year 1,500,000 lbs. of food will pass through our facility. WOW, that's a lot wouldn't you say? Please help to keep it going.

We receive no money from any government agency, local or federal. Entirely unfunded but oh, my we’re wealthy in friendliness and nutritious food. Two 7,200 sq. ft. buildings have just been constructed. They will serve as warehouses for this gigantic undertaking. The cost to the tax payer: NOTHING. Built by the generosity of well meaning people and plenty of hard work of fundraising, on-line auctions, car/truck charitable drawings, etc.

Who does all the work: 150 volunteers who give of their talents and time to make it happen. The warehouse is open to deliveries and pick-ups seven days a week.

Our mission is to help solve the heart-breaking problem of hunger in Citrus County, affecting thousands of families with children, seniors, and the homeless, by offering “a hand up” and not “a hand out.”

We are blessed to have this program and with perseverance, optimism and hope we’ll continue to receive donations to help it continue. We welcome anyone to learn more about us. Come and watch a distribution day, it will change your life forever.

The we care food pantry in Homassa Fl recently helped me with food for the first time. My husband and I had juist moved to the area. He then abandoned me there I had no one and was told by a neighbor to contact Citrus county outreach. they were so helpful. I have been thru a lot in my life and although it had been many years since I found myself in need I just couldn't believe the out pouring of support from all the entities involved in out reach. I was ready to give up, thinking I am to old to be in this position. When asking for help I felt no lss of dignity and found the strength to go on after receiving services from We Care citrus. I was again able to hold my head up, find work asd a place to live. that I could afford. If it had not been for We Care I don't know what I would have done. Thank you to all donors please keep helping people in need.

My family literally cant wait for our time each month to pick up our supplies from the pantry. We depend on the food so much. We couldn't make it thru a month without their help. We buy food for ourselves too, but honestly, we can't buy enough to get us thru on our own. They also help with diapers and household supplies, which is also so helpful to us. I really don't know how we could manage without them.

We Care Food Pantry has helped our large family so much. We are a family made up of 3 generations in one household. We could not make it through these hard times without their help! I really don't know how we could feed our family without their help, but they also help with diapers and personal supplies, as well as school supplies and help at Thanksgiving. It's what COMMUNITY should really be about. Thank you for all your help We Care! :)

As a volunteer for We Care Food Pantry for many years, I wanted to add my voice to the many people who have been kind enough to put a comment on the site.
In my experience with this organization the most important aspect of what we do is to help people who need help in a kind and considerate way. We DO NOT JUDGE the people who come to us for help, or to volunteer their time and energy to feed the hungry in our community. None of us are qualified to do so. It is probably the most gratifying thing I have ever participated in and I appreciate all the other people who work so very hard to see that so many people in our community who are in need are helped.

To Whom It May Concern:
I want to thank We Care for the generous amount of food. In the time, it came in handy when funds are low. On a fixed income it means a lot to a lot of us. Thanks again, we really do appreciate all the help given at a bad time of year.

We Care Food Pantry is a great asset to the Citrus County residents, but what's truly sad is their willingness to allow active illegal drug users and severe alcoholics to work in the program, it truly sends the wrong message.

The service provided to my wife and myself by We Care Food Pantry is invaluable and we thank God everyday for the quality of food and services we are given. We would not make it week to week without the help we receive from you. Dotty has been so very kind and helpful to us, very caring and thoughtful and we really appreciate her efforts. My doctor told me that I would have to gain weight to prepare for surgery, and when Dotty heard about it, she went out of her way to find Ensure to supplement my diet and help me gain the needed weight. When Dotty has heard of a need, she is always there to help out. Our community is blessed to have her and We Care Food Pantry and we would all be lost without them and the service they provide. Thank you for who you are and for what you do.

I do not know how we could have survived without these wonderful giving people. Within the last two years my husband has become disabled. He has lost his job and we are now living on his disability check. We had no time to plan for this situation, Eddie is still a fairly young. We thank God every day for providing our community with this organization. Without their help I'm afraid we would have starved long ago. Not only do these charitable souls provide us with much needed sustenance, but they do it cheerfully and generously. Thank you, thank you.

My name is Robin,

I live at Bell Villa Mobile Home Park in Homosassa and I have volunteered to accept reviews that any of my neighbors give to me to post for them since there are many families that can not afford a computer or internet and some who would not know what to do with one.

I first had contact with the We Care Pantry people when they were helping people as only the Homosassa Civic Club, when one of their volunteers Dottie brought food to the woods where my family and I were camping out until the Sheriff's Dept. got us in to this trailer park back in October 2006.

Dottie and her helpers, still bring food here at the park and we are so grateful Christmas trees, presents for the kids (out of Dottie's own pocket), Thanksgiving dinner, and food and other items twice a month, and when she goes to her daughter's for Christmas, someone else takes her place! Without Dottie and everyone else at the We Care Food Pantry especially those who do the work of getting the funding to provide for us and so many other people through out the area.

Sincerely, Robin

My Name is David, I am a Christian man and go to church every Sunday.

I want to express how grateful I am for the people of the We Care Food Pantry, especially to Dottie and her helpers who have been bringing food to Bell Villa for years. They have shown great kindness towards me. Food twice a month at least and Thanksgiving dinner and presents for my granddaughter that I would not be able to give anything if it was not for Dottie.

I pray for your mission with the Food Pantry, you are such a blessing to me and many of my neighbors , God Bless You.

Thanks to We Care Food Pantry and Dottie for all they do to help me and everyone and Bell Villa. They get the food to us and letting us know about other programs that might be able to help us. Without Dottie and the We Care Food Pantry, some people would not be able to get the help that they need. God Bless Dottie and the We Care Food Pantry.

Dear “We Care”
Just a small note to thank you for your visits to Bell Villa. Your support has made a really bad situation more manageable and the knowledge that groceries will be available every other Wednesday relieves a lot of stress. I look forward to the day when my situation stabilizes and I can begin to return the kindness and support shown by “We Care” and the wonderful volunteers who visit us at Bell Villa. A god send since many of us have no transportation.
All the Best

To Whom It May Concern,
Hi there! I was writing you today in regards to the We Care Food Pantry and all of the help that they provide, and have provided for those of us that reside in the bell Villa Mobil Home Park. Over the past few years I have been fortunate enough to work with the food bank and I’ve seen the blessings that come from the bi-weekly deliveries. Personally, the food bank has helped me feed my cats and dogs when I was low on food. It has also helped with laundry detergent from time to time which also helps out. All in all, I would have to say that the We Care Food Pantry is a huge blessing to those of us who are on either a fixed income or a low income, like me. To have the food delivered every other week helps those like me who don’t have a vehicle still able to get the food which helps a lot when you run low between food stamps. I know that this is just a supplement what we bring into our home food wise, however, many times there is enough actually last almost one week on its own. I’ve been fortunate enough to witness the joy. We Care brings to people on special occasions. For instance, the turkeys during Thanksgiving and Christmas trees at Christmas. I have been fortunate to receive one of the Christmas trees in the past and it completely made my day. It’s wonderful to see a group of selfless people going out of their way to make someone’s day just a little bit brighter and easier.

My husband and I have volunteered for years and find this to be the most rewarding personal experience and ministry we have done. We roll up to the warehouse with our load of food once a week and are greeted with smiling faces and helping hands. The leadership has withstood adversity in putting together a viable and necessary service to the Homosassa community.

We feel blessed and it is great to see that it IS possible for a vision to reach fruition.

i started as a volunteer 6 months ago, and have worked two days a week interviewing applicants for food assistance. the need in our community is widespread and real, so I see real results and real help for hungry families. unlike some charities, there are no salaries, even for the director. I've been told
there are 160 volunteers. we distribute food on Saturday mornings to our "family" members, who get photo issued id's. our clients renew their card every 12 months. our community has been very supportive of this organization, even to the point of building a warehouse. We Care also provides food
for other local charities, which are all coordinated county-wide.

I personally vetted about 100 charities which are permitted in Citrus County, and scored this one the highest on a list of 8 traits. great job team !

I became involved with We Care Food Pantry very soon after moving to Citrus County. I was so often impressed with the positive comments I heard from most everyone I met, and was quickly moved to become involved myself. So many people in our community reap the benefits of the efforts of this well-coordinated and all-volunteer organization - - just friends and neighbors helping other friends and neighbors in need. I was honored to be asked to serve on the Board and to lend my services as assistant treasurer. In these roles I observed even more closely the extraordinary generosity and dedication that's exhibited every day by our "Little Engine that Could", Diane Toto, and the rest of the pantry volunteers . Everyone in Citrus County knows of the heroic efforts of the We Care Food Pantry 'family'. I'm proud to be a part of this family's work, and I encourage others to come and join us in the fight against hunger in our home town.

I began volunteering for We Care in 2008, picking up groceries donated by Sweet Bay once a week and gradually was drawn in by the enthusiasm and need for help in sorting food and preparing it for giving it to the thousands of people in need. My favorite part became helping with the bimonthly food distribution and meeting the cars lined up with boxes and bags of food plus bottles of milk, juice and water. Since then we have raised the funds and built a huge warehouse with large freezers and coolers to process and store the food. We have recently moved our offices and donation site to a new location on Atlas Drive where a free dental clinic and medical clinic are also located. Diane Toto, her board and volunteer staff always have new visions and MAKE THEM HAPPEN! Watch for what will happen next!

We Care Food Pantry, Inc. is the most energized and focused all-volunteer organization I've ever encountered. For the past nine years I have been involved in every aspect of the work from filling food boxes for clients to serving on the board as treasurer and working with the volunteer tax professional in filing our 990 each year. This organization is run with integrity and honor. Time and money donated to ending hunger is carefully managed and donors know they are making a difference in the lives of those in need. Knowing first hand how donated money goes exactly where it is supposed to go, to feeding the hungry, I have made this my charity of choice and have joined the growing list of monthly donors.

Hi, I started Volunteer with the "WE CARE FOOD PANTRY" in 2006 Homosassa Fla , in which I was new to area and Florida. Diane Toto going be president of the We Care Food Pantry and myself Office Mgr and Marketing Director. This was totally different what I was doing up North, Yes, we was small at first feeding about 75 people a month, now we are feeding appox 2,500 people a month. What a joy to give to people and some with children, after giving them food the action we got from them was great, they even cry and hugging us what we have done for them,so happy. Some of them hasn't had a piece of meat maybe a month or two, veggies, dairy products, bread, even gave dog food and cat food with those who had pets.

The 1 st year when we gave Turkeys out and the fixing, some of these people hasn't seen a turkey almost 5 yrs,you talk about crying this really happen.
People comes to us old cars, bikes and walking,we give food out 24/7,we feed people that lives in the woods, some with children ( they lost their jobs, homes and no where else to go ). One person volunteer and make big pots of food and deliver to the woods people. people are very happy getting what we can give them, and people are willing to donated their time and give back.
We do a lot of projects to help our needs, with our projects we was able to build 2 buildings, a great person donated 5 acres of land to us, God was watching what we needed and things happen.
You need to believe , have faith and have goals.

Working in the corporate world, you never realize what is on the other side of corporate world, it really open up my eyes up,and yes i cry when I notice this, what I had and they didn't. Yes, I learn..still learning.

Sincerely,
Bobbie K.
