I was looking for a companion to rescue and bring into a loving home. I thought Wayward would be the perfect place to do this because I have heard such good things. So I went and visited the cats at the cafe and fell instantly in love. I put in an application immediately for this cat. As I have rescued many animals in the past, I knew the process would be a lot information wise, but not time wise. It took almost 2 weeks for them to respond to my application and by then, I was told the cat I wanted was already adopted a day ago. Now if they said the cat was already adopted a week ago, I would normally understand that, but my application was put in 2 weeks ago.
After that, they were very willing to help me rescue another cat which I had no issues with doing. I found a cat I liked and they contacted the foster parents to give me a call so I could set up a meet and greet. The next day she called but I wasn't able to answer the first call. So I called back 3-4 times everyday to see if she would pick up, and there was nothing from her. After a week, I texted the foster mom to see if she was able to better communicate that way. In the end it worked better to text her, but she responded by telling me that because of poor communication the cat was already adopted by another family.
Now I don't mean any hate, but I found it a lot easier to rescue a cat outside of Wayward because I was able to adopt 2 in less that half the time it took them to respond to my application at Wayward. I think their communication could be a whole lot better with people trying to adopt pets. But I think the foster parents who hold some of the cats also need to be better at communicating as well. It doesn't take long to send and text or an email explaining the situation. But if there's an even bigger change that they should approve upon is to not give cats away when someones application has already been accepted but communication on the foster parents end is poor.
So I will say it again, go somewhere else if you want to adopt a cat because you will be devastated by Wayward.
On Sunday Sept 12 2021 I inquired about a calico they had at the Pet Cafe here in Greensburg. By late Monday afternoon I got a response saying that the app was received and will go under review shortly. I had inquired about their rule of having the other animals vacs up to date and they said they do require that so I told them that I would get the other cat done this week. In the mean time they called my vet about the other cat but the vet had trouble looking it up since it was under my wifes name so I emailed the receipts and documentation for that particular cat and I received a Thank you! response within 2 minutes.
Wednesday comes along and I get the other cat up to date and I email those documents over that evening. Friday comes along and I start looking for a different calico at a different shelter and after a brief exchange of emails, documents & phone calls, the cat was delivered to my home on Sunday!
Here it is Wednesday the 22nd and I still have not heard a peep from Wayward Whiskers! The very least they could do it tell me that I am declined or something! Not professional at all. I understand that you are a volunteer organization but for gods sakes, how long does it take to compose a one line email? I will not be recommending them to anybody in the future - that's for sure.
I had a terrible experience with Wayward Whiskers Cat Rescue. Over the summer I applied to adopt a cat I fell in love with because she looked like a childhood pet. I was contacted multiple times and was told I was APPROVED and someone would be in contact to set up a meet and greet to pick her up. I guess they changed their minds because they simply never contacted me again. I waited for MONTHS. I called and emailed to check in, and they never responded. They say if they are not interested in you they will not contact you, OK, but if they contact you to tell you that you are approved, they should be able to contact you to tell you they changed their minds so you don't wait hopefully and excitedly for MONTHS. VERY RUDE and inconsiderate. My heart was completely BROKEN. :(
The folks at Wayward Whiskers are incredibly professional and care extremely well for their cats. They treat them very well providing them care and a loving home until they are adopted. They are all volunteers. They don't aggressively ask for money, though very much appreciate donations of money, cat food and other cat care items.
