I have volunteered as an English Language tutor at WATCH (Waltham Alliance to Create Housing) CDC for two years, and it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As part of the tutoring program, WATCH trains English-speaking volunteers and carefully pairs them with adult ELL learners from the surrounding community. Once a week, my learner and I practice conversation and reading, and have terrific discussions about American culture and life. Her confidence and conversational skills have improved tremendously, and it's been really fun for me, too! In addition to the tutoring program, WATCH offers low-cost English classes, a walk-in housing clinic, and energy-efficiency "barn-raisings" to help reduce energy costs for local people. Their staff is friendly, well-established and -organized, and extremely dedicated to their community. WATCH provides the Waltham community with an invaluable service, and I would strongly recommend working with them!

Mission: The WATCH mission is to build, preserve and promote affordable housing, and to enhance the economic opportunities, civic participation and leadership skills of the Waltham area's low- and moderate-income families.
Programs: Adult education: provision and promotion of adult education and leadership development for immigrants and non-immigrants in the waltham area. Education includes english language instructions, life skills, first time homebuying and tenant-landlord law.
community organizing - advocacy and community organizing of waltham residents for affordable and decent housing, weatherization of housing for low- and moderate-income households in waltham. To increase the amount of affordable housing for low-income families in the waltham area and and to build the voice and participation of local residents in their community.
