I've had a great experience with this operation. The best part is the tangible impact that can be seen. The funds raised go right to programs that are already in high demand and no some black hole most charities have.
We've been with Warrior For Life Fund since early 2023....and we can't imagine life without it! Both of our kids have been playing with the Sled Hockey team since then and we couldn't say enough about the amazing team that makes this nonprofit happen! From the coaches, mentors (older players) and fellow teammates' family members, we feel part of a family and look forward to practice each week! It's taught our kids about team work, discipline, exercise and above all else, how to value themselves and build their self-esteem! Thank you, Warrior for Life Fund!!!!

Words CANNOT describe the level of impact that Warrior For Life Fund has had on our family! With two children born with Spina Bifida (Maria - 11yrs old and Andrew - 7yrs old), it has been incredibly difficult to find an outlet that they both enjoy and have found fulfillment in. When we met Warrior For Life Fund here in Virginia Beach back in January of 2023, particularly Coach Dean Newcomb and the WFLF crew (Ryan Croley, Mike Fleetwood and Jayme Pastoric, among others), we immediately felt at home! As a family with somewhat limited resources and two children with special needs, we were hesitant to jump into WFLF Sled Hockey, but Coach Dean and the WFLF crew put us at ease.....and I can honestly say that since we joined the team, we have NEVER worried about how we would provide for this priceless program. Our kids have not only loved learning the sport of Sled Hockey, they are also constantly enriched with fellow athletes (teens and adults) that serve as role models and inspiration for them. As a parent, I never imagined that something like WFLF existed....and now that our entire family is regularly involved, it is one of the top things that we look forward to doing together each week. WFLF has provided an environment that enables opportunity both in the sport of hockey as well as a community of human beings who sincerely care (and relate to) for each other on a very intimate basis. Based on the emotional and physical growth I've seen in both of my children alone, I could not imagine our life without WFLF! We are so grateful for the organization and all of those who sacrifice, daily, to make this a reality. It is truly a labor of love and has changed our family's life! We never miss an opportunity to spread the word in order to find new people/groups that can support the mission, and we look forward to seeing this organization grow!
This is a stalwart organization that gives so much to our veterans and families. I’ve been associated with them and a part of the sled hockey team for three years now. My grandson who was born with spina bifida has found a place to grow and develop so many talents through his time on the team. They provide one of the only adaptive sports programs in the area. The coaching and leadership staff are selfless and encouraging. They give so much of their time to the cause and betterment of all involved.
Warrior For Life Fund has been a part of my life for almost a decade. I had never "properly" played hockey before and knew my body couldn't support skating when I heard about sled hockey. I checked out the sled hockey program and found a community dedicated to maximizing abilities instead of focusing on disabilities. Since then I've progressed to playing in international tournaments and training with members of the US Paralympic team. The WFLF hockey family has supported me on a journey from being depressed, overmedicated and unhealthy to being active and part of an amazing community. The impact of this organization cannot be overstated!
This organization cares about the people it serves! They are always looking to put together events that pull the community together!!

A great organization run and supported by some talented and dedicated people who obviously care. Whether it’s the adaptive hockey SLED program or the active duty/retired adult hockey program, this organization gets it right. Hat tip to the greatest team in the NHL, Boston Bruins for supporting WFLF!
I didn’t know there was a big hockey community here in VB when I moved. The rink I looked up said Warrior for Life Fund ran a development league. It was a fun class and I gained more confidence in my game then I did before. I’ll definitely be back.
I've been with this program since it started and have been able to watch it grow and see how many people it has helped over the years, myself included. It gave me the opportunity to get off the couch and feeling sorry for myself, to getting on the ice for my very first time ever, to playing for the USA Women's National Team. The program leads, the coaches, volunteers, Boston Bruins, and all the supporters make this happen for those that need this kind of therapy and camaraderie. It's not just a program. It's family.
Over the past few years, I've been involved with WFLF and I've had an amazing experience. The thing is, I wasn't really familiar with hockey or skating before joining this team. But now, I can confidently say that I've made some incredible friendships and my mental and physical health is so much better because of this sport and program.
What's even more impressive is that WFLF goes beyond the ice and actively participates in the community to promote a sense of unity and camaraderie among team members. And their dedication to supporting veterans' mental health is something that makes them stand out in both hockey and veteran advocacy. It's truly an amazing organization!
For those who are not aware, my name is Katrina Velasco and I have a temporary brain injury. A brain tumor (Juvenile Pilocytic Astrocytoma) ruptured in my cerebellum. I was unable to walk, eat, talk or stand at first due to the damages, but this sport has helped me a lot such as strengthening my core in order to regain my ability to stand and walk again. I wish to continue this amazing sport and be able to have the opportunity to relate as well as gain more experience with others!
