I spent four days with several other WARM volunteers replacing dilapidated door frames and windowsills of a struggling family's home. When we finished, not only were the house's residents extremely grateful, but I also had become good friends with many of the other volunteers. With WARM, you can give families in dire straits new hope and be a member of a team that enjoys doing tangible, high-impact work.
While I joined the organization on my own, it is worth mentioning that WARM provides hands-on service opportunities for schools and youth groups. Reach out to their office if you are planning a service learning trip to southeastern NC. If you live in Wilmington or its surrounding areas, I hope you have the privilege of working with this great organization.
I organized a week long group trip to work with Wilimington Area Rebuilding Ministry and I was impressed from beginning to end. In the run up to the event they were helpful and informative and professional in every way.
During the week we worked on repairing a house that was in extremely urgent need of floor repairs. With the guidance of the construction manager our group was able to restore the home to a safe livable condition. The truth is that we accomplished far more than any of us would have thought possible when we arrived the first day.
If you want to truely make a difference, this is the place to do it. This is not "feel good" work, this is real work making a real difference in the lives of real people.
