I needed horses back in my life! I found WNCR when I lived in Rio Rancho and drove over 100 miles round trip, to enjoy the serene beauty along with the sites, sounds and smells of the horses and dogs.
I found 'my girl' Blue at the ranch and we now live in Edgewood with another horse!
I have taken my passion for the horses, the ranch and New Mexico Horse Rescue's mission and coordinate the new volunteers and share the passion!
I have been volunteering at WNCR since the spring of 2017. Initially I helped out by mucking, fixing fences, repairing and building ranch buildings, cutting weeds, hauling hay, and working with horses. Fortunately, numerous foals and fully grown horses I've worked with over the years have since been adopted out. I'm glad I could be a small part of their success story. Also, I've helped out by being the announcer/emcee at multiple ranch horse shows and events. Three years ago I adopted Charlotte, a 9 year old Appaloosa mare, from WNCR. It took weeks for her to trust me when I first started working with her, but she has since developed into a great trail horse. I helped demo/teardown the old ranch office trailer and move furniture into the new office building. More recently the ranch has needed me to focus on IT work and misc. grounds maintenance. The dedication of volunteers is very evident through the quality care the horses receive. I am very proud to be a part of the organization and I am very impressed by the endless hard work accomplished by the small group of paid staff and horse trainers. So many horses owe their meaningful lives and futures to the 100 or so volunteers who each do their part to make WNCR successful.
I've been volunteering at WNCR for almost 2 years now and it is one of the best places around. Everyone truly cares about these horses and helping them find their forever homes. We have some of the best trainers around who really teach people how to work with horses. The staff works tirelessly to ensure all of the horses are in the best health possible and if one does get injured or sick, they are on top of things to get that horse back to peak condition quickly. If you are looking for an organization that is worth your time and effort, this is it. It's hard work, but so worth it!
My daughter (then 8 years old) and I started volunteering at WNCR in 2013. We quickly got involved on the mucking team then progressed to the feed team where we fed dinner to horses every fourth Sunday of the month. WNCR is unique in that it accepts younger volunteers and has been a fantastic place to teach animal husbandry and what it means to give back to the community. I never thought we'd be horse owners but we are all thanks to our exposure and experience at WNCR. We adopted a horse in 2014 and have been riding ever since.
WNCR is a great place for horses to get another chance at life and for people of all walks of life to have a part in it. Volunteers also get invaluable training from experts to help rehabilitate these horses. Everyone wins!
I've been volunteering with WNCR since 2016, and am amazed at the growth I've seen over that time! The programs, classes, and opportunities that are offered now are fantastic for anyone interested in getting more involved with horses and animal rescue. And for anyone interested in adoption, not only are our horses gorgeous (no bias, of course), but you'll have the support of an experienced adoption team and professional trainers who can help match the right horse to the right owner. Definitely check this place out!
I started volunteering in 2017 and was so impressed with the amount of hand-on experiences volunteers are given. Working so closely with these majestic animals has been awe-inspiring. Helping these horses heal and watching them learn to trust humans again is so rewarding. The transformations I’ve been so privileged to witness are nothing short of miraculous. Walkin N Circles Ranch is providing an invaluable service to both the animals and the community they serve.
New Mexico Horse Rescue at Walkin N Circles Ranch, Inc., is home to about 70 horses. The ranch is run by two paid staff and over 100 volunteer ranch hands. The experience of volunteering at this ranch is very fulfilling. Volunteers learn to care for the horses, handle them, and have access to trainers to help the horses become adoptable. It is a wonderfully peaceful place.
As hay prices soared, the crisis of abused and neglected horses reached a critical level. Walkin N Circles Ranch (New Mexico Horse Rescue) somehow expanded their facilities to meet new demands and Executive Director, Charles Graham, reached out to other horse rescue organizations around the state to coordinate efforts. After the death of my two ancient horses, I donated a couple of truckloads of feed, tack and other equipment to the ranch. They also have a thrift store which takes donations. This is a wonderful organization with many committed volunteers. Their website contains a message of hope and lists all of the horses they have saved, trained and made adoptable. This is a truly great cause.
