Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Emergency Assistance, Human Services, Thrift Shops

Mission: Founded in 1969, Wadsworth FISH was originally formed to assist children in our school system who were in need of food and clothing. It soon became apparent that to help the children, the parent(s) needed assistance with being able to pay rent, utilities and other services in order to keep the family together in a home. We continue to assist in the same manner, but our organization has grown to assisting with prescriptions for those with no insurance, gasoline vouchers to get to work, and various other needs arising from poverty, divorce, job loss, and/or catastrophic illness.

Marian's Closet, an all volunteer organization, offers clothing and household items to those in need for FREE. Marian's Closet received its articles of incorporation and 501 C 3 status in December 2010. We are enjoying our new home at 154 East Street in Wadsworth. Our hours are Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, from 10-2, and Thursday evenings from 4-8. We accept donations during our open hours. If you would like to volunteer please call the store at 330-336-3642.

Marian's Closet which is a part of the Wadsworth FISH Organization was co-founded by a friend of mine. It is a free clothing store! In these hard economic times when money is stretched, what a blessing it is to be able to get free clothing from the abundance of unused clothing hanging in people's closets around the community. To me the organization operates under the principle that we are blessed by God so that we can be a blessing to others. The volunteers at this store take clothing donations from the community, sort it, and put out only items in great shape. I have volunteered at this store and have given numerous donations in the form of clothing and diapers. I thank God for my abundance and I am happy to share that abundance with others so they can experience His goodness as well.

Marian's Closet ( FISH) is a vital charity organization in our town of Wadsworth, Ohio. The overall atmosphere and set up of the shop gives dignity to those who are need. People are allowed to "shop" for items for free. Anything from clothing, household goods and small appliances, to school supplies. Baby formula & diapers are also dispensed ( this may be part of WIC) One of the things I noticed that they people who receive from Marian's, also want to give back. Many once they are " back on their feet" give back to Marian's. Either in way of donations or volunteer hours. Marian's also is a good source of information for other resources that are available. Such as Angel Ministries, WIC programs Etc.

I drop donations by Marian's Closet often and see the many faces the FISH organization is helping. As a member of the Wadsworth District Girl Scout Council, we also donate diapers and wipes each Christmas for young families in need. The volunteers are pleasant and helpful to all who walk through the doors!
