Mission: The Volunteer Center of San Mateo County mobilizes people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community needs. We work in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Volunteer Center National Network, and belong to the Volunteer Centers of the Bay Area.

Programs: The Volunteer Center provides information and referrals to over 15,000 people each year, and engages individuals and groups in service projects all year round. Silicon Valley companies turn to us to get employees involved in community projects, organize volunteer fairs on-site, conduct food and toy drives, and provide other important services to over 15,000 employees annually. The Volunteer Center's BoardNet program matches people with leadership positions on nonprofit Boards of Directors and provides consultation and training to local agencies. Other management services include courses and institutes to train agency professionals in best practices for managing volunteers (600 agencies served). We work with student leaders, teachers and agencies to inspire youth to be active in their communities and promote youth development (hundreds of young people provided information, referrals and hands-on service projects each year). The Volunteer Center hosts several significant community events, including The Human Race, a fun 10K walk/run benefitting local community organizations (1000 participants), and recognition events highlighting the achievements of the region's leaders in voluntary service. Beneficiaries of Volunteer Center services include those needing emergency services (food, shelter, clothing); children, seniors and people with disabilities; the environment; the arts; and--volunteers themselves! The best predictor of whether someone will volunteer is that they have volunteered in the past. Volunteers report that they receive more than they give, and that volunteering is fun, too. Volunteers are the human resources that make our community a great place to live and work. The Volunteer Center of San Mateo County has numerous community partners who support our efforts and make our activities possible.Contact us at info@vcsmco.org to find out more!
