Mission: Vital Options International founded in 1983 grew from a local young adult cancer support organization to an international Tele-support(R) Cancer Network dedicated to using technology to help people cope with cancer by providing information, help and support to those facing and touched by cancer. Vital Options is best known for The Group Room(R) a weekly syndicated radio call-in cancer talk show which reaches more than half a million radio listeners and countless others via the world wide web and the XM Radio subscription network. Vital Options works collaboratively with other cancer organizations and groups in various cancer communications initiatives and is considered “everyone’s best partner”. Other Vital Options communications projects include The Cancer News Minute, a national cancer news radio feature, CancerTalk, an in-flight audio program for American and Northwest Airlines, and the Professor & The Survivor, a multi-lingual clinical trials awareness project.
Programs: Provide web-based educational video content, distributed without charge on our website and available without charge to other not-for-profit organizations and oncology-focused websites. Vital options' content has had approximately 40,000 video views in the last six months.
"the group room" and "advocacy in action" are programs conducted at major cancer conferences, enabling physicians and leaders of the patient advocacy community to discuss a spectrum of clinical news, research and issues in depth. These meetings help co-ordinate initiatives within the patient advocacy community. Videos of these sessions are also posted on our website to educate the public about treatment options and patient advocacy.
assistance to other cancer organizations -- work with other not-for-profit cancer organizations, cancer centers and hospitals, academic and research institutions, and professional medical societies to develop video content for patient education.
I have the highest respect for this organization which initially began over 20 years ago as the first support group of its kind for young adults with cancer and has since grown to an international organization for all age groups. I had the privilege of volunteering in the early days and met many participants and learned firsthand of their gratitude for Vital Options and the difference it made in their lives as well as witnessing their transformations. VO goes above and beyond the call of duty in every way they can. Their commitment to service, excellence, education, outreach and communication is a precious gift
