Mission: Our mission is simple: To help stop people from losing their vision to preventable eye diseases like glaucoma. All across America, millions of people are unknowingly and needlessly losing their previous sense of vision due to the preventable eye disease glaucoma. Vision for Vision aims to raise awareness about the importance of annual eye care exams to catch glaucoma early before vision loss occurs.
Results: We have presented at senior centers across California, reaching out to thousands of citizens informing them about the importance of eye exams and assisting them in taking advantage of Medicare opportunities. For our work in health promotion and glaucoma awareness, our organization has been invited to international glaucoma conferences in Boston and Dana Point (AGS). See our website for more details.
Target demographics: Everyone is at risk for glaucoma. However, senior citizens tend to be more at risk for the disease, and preventable vision loss. By informing seniors about opportunities for free exams under Medicare and participating ophthalmic offices, we hope to save people from losing their vision to a preventable disease.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Each chapter of Vision for Vision presents at at least two senior centers per month.
