I have had season tickets to the Virginia Stage company for over 20 years.
To go see a show there is truly a professional theater going experience! The Artistic and
Managing Director always put on an interesting, new and exciting season comparable
to anything on Broadway. It is so much easier to go to Norfolk and not to New York for this
kind of theater. They do Musicals, Dramas, Comedies and original works. The play, "Line
in the Sand" was an exciting, original play about local events. it was about the end to segregation
in Norfolk, I was intrigued. "Romeo and Juliet" used a computer screen for the backdrop. The lovers
communicated via email. What an original approach to one of Shakespeare's great plays.
A season ticket is the best way to enjoy great theater and force yourself to see something that you don't know anything about. My husband and I always come away smiling, congratulating ourselves on a wonderful evening away from TV!

Mission: The production of theatrical arts for all aspects of the community.
Programs: Virginia stage company is southeastern virginia's leading non-profit theatre, serving an audience of over 70,000 annually, both at the wells theatre and throughout the community. Vsc's mission is to "enrich, educate, and entertain the region by creating and producing theatrical art of the highest quality. " in 2017 vsc had 158 performances over 6 different productions. This year due to renovations of the wells theatre, vsc's home theatre, performances were also held at, the roper performing arts center and old dominion university's good theatre.
our education and community engagement programs number in excess of 60 programs and interactions in various schools throughout hampton roads, at the wells theatre and utilize community spaces. Over 30,000 students and adults experienced these programs this year. Programs include, but are not limited to, lively student matinees, our award-winning black light puppet theater project, various workshops, in-school residencies, and a host of others. An increased emphasis on cultivating dialogue during and after our performances has also become a priority. Audience-driven salon discussions taking place after performances, panel discussions and brown bag lunch programs have been implemented.
