Very disappointed VGSR denied our application to rescue a dog from them. They denied application because our current pup Jet, newly 2/rescued at 15 months, is not currently neutered. Since they spay/neuter their dogs before adoption (arguably prematurely), this is not about preventing unwanted pregnancies. This is about their rigid opposition to any dog not being “fixed” on their timetable. this denies gsd rescues the chance to live excellent lives in homes welcoming them fully. Jet is our 9th beloved gsd, he/we want a companion, the closed minds of this group speaks more to their unexamined “principles” than to a dogs best life. shame on them.

I have adopted 3 German Shepherds from VGSR. Wonderful folks and Wonderful dogs. I have volunteered with VGSR. It is an outstanding all volunteer organization with caring folks who work to find good homes for good dogs. All adopters receive a home visit and are assisted in finding a dog that will fit into their home. Highly recommend this organization to anyone who wants to help this wonderful loyal breed of companion animals !!! Virginia German Shepherd Rescue is an all volunteer organization. All funds that they raise are spent on the rescue dogs. It has been around since at least 2001, and has a deservedly great reputation. I have adopted three dogs from VGSR over the years. It serves a need by helping dogs and people across the state of Virginia and neighboring states. Good Dogs for Good Homes is the motto, and that is what they do. Good pet companions are rescued and placed with people that are screened by applications and home visits. In addition some dogs are brought in that are essentially hospice and given a loving place to stay as they approach the end of their stay with us. I cannot recommend them more highly. Adopt - Foster - Volunteer - Donate. There are multiple ways VGSR offers to folks to that want to help accomplish the mission of helping deserving dogs.

I love VGSR. I have volunteered for VGSR for many years as a foster provider and in admin and social media roles. I have also adopted dogs from VGSR. This group is very dedicated to the wellbeing and welfare of its dogs and the focus truly is on Good Dogs for Good Homes. Donations are always used for the dogs and only the dogs.

I have adopted, fostered, and volunteered with VGSR. This rescue cares for the neglected, unwanted, sick, and misunderstood German Shepherds. I've never seen them turn away a medical issue or hospice case. As long as fosters are available they will do everything they can to rehabilitate and rehome GSDs. Fantastic Rescue!
