Causes: Economics
Mission: To provide virginias k-12 students with the economic knowledge and financial skills needed to thrive in our global economy by providing professional development opportunities to all virginia k-12 teachers who teach economics and personal finance at no cost to the teachers or school divisions.
Programs: Teacher education - provide quality professional development workshops and institutes and classroom materials to teachers to enable them to more effectively teach their students economics and personal finance. As a result of the financial support we receive from our partners to the fund for teaching excellence this training is provided at no cost to the teachers or their schools. In fy17, vcee served 1,500 virginia teachers, of which 54 were from title 1 schools.
stock market game - a program for grades 4-12 which enables student teams to invest 100,000 and track how their investments perform over the life of the program. In fy17 more than 16,000 students across virginia participated in the stock market game. Vcee also manages the statewide participation in investwrite, a writing competition around saving, investing and the stock market.
the governors challenge in economics and personal finance - this is a statewide competition for high school students that culminates in a live competition where regional champions compete against one another for the state championship. State champions are eligible to advance to the national champtionship competitions. In fy17 3,000 students participated in the governors challenge statewide.
