Programs: Land and livelihoods program (laos -- land rights eduction): focus on land and natural resource rights, access to information, legal advocacy, networking, land use planning, etc.
protection and empowerment of women and children -- laos, anti-trafficking: focus on the fight against human trafficking, including the operation of a shelter in southern laos.
green earth centre demonstration farm and training centre. Vfi's gec is an unique, 100 acre farm in southern laos, with small animal raising areas, green houses, mushroom houses, organic compost, orchards, fish ponds, a tree nursery, and a food processing facility. Gec also has a training area (meeting rooms, dorms, a staff house, an information center, etc. )
I really like VFI because they make all of their impact based on locals leaders, rather than a large, expensive office with highly-paid expat staff in the US (or another country). My support to them has lead to several local schools being built but I'm aware that they are a country leader in land rights and in the fight against human trafficking.
