This is the best event, in the world, to get homeless veterans and their families of the streets for a 3 day weekend of free services: food, showers, dental, medical, vision, child care, social service agencies, attorney services (pro bono), Veterans Administration benefits, haircuts, employment services, addiction counseling, housing, homeless court, Social Security, clothing, DMV and too many others to name. Every year this event gets homeless veterans and their families a fresh start.
Since 1999 I have been actively associated with VVSD. In the beginning as a client, then as an alumni and currently as an employee. Over the years I have witnessed the lives of countless homeless and needy veterans being saved with the help of an amazing staff. Veterans have gone from hopeless to determined, from unemployable to managers, and from homeless to homeowners as a result of VVSD's services. It is an amazing program; one I am honored to be a part of.
Veteran's Village provides shelter and food every night during the winter for over 400 homeless veterans in San Diego County. During the warmer months over 250 are similarly served. Substance abuse programs, job training and placement and on-going support are also provided. Veteran's Village returns citizens to productive lives in our community.
