Vickie’s stepped in when my dad was first diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. I was just 8 years old at the time and didn’t understand much of the medical stuff going on besides the fact that my dad was “sick”. One thing I will always remember is that first Christmas of him being diagnosed, Vickie’s sent me more Christmas gifts then I could count. I will never forget how special that made me feel - that someone cared about me and my family that much. They have gone above and beyond, not only for my family, but hundreds of others in need of help during the difficult times when cancer comes into the picture. This organization has changed our lives forever. And although my dad has since passed (just over 2 years ago now), I know that the impression Vickie’s made on him to start raising money for the cause will live on in my mom and I for the rest of our lives.
In March 2018 my family’s entire world was turned upside down in an instant. My hardworking mother had a seizure at work which ended her in the ER. Shortly after we were told she had a 5 inch brain tumor in her head. After several tests a brain biopsy my 42 year old mother was diagnosed with terminal Glioblastoma. I was just 3 months pregnant at the time.
Since my mother wasn’t able to work due to her illness, and my step father also wasn’t able to work as he was my mothers primary care-taker the bills, as you could imagine, began adding up quickly. It became very hard financially to care for the household which my 4 siblings also resided in who were between the ages of 7 and 16 years old.
Vickies stepped in and was a true god send to our family. They helped pay for my families mortgage, assisted with groceries, and even called just to check in on us weekly. As my mom continued to fight, we were able to spend more quality time with her and to take in the little moments more without having the financial worry on our mind.
My mother lost her courageous battle on February 22 2019. Not a day goes by that we all don’t miss her dearly. My family has found peace in “paying it forward” through Vickies Angel Foundation in my moms memory. It’s uplifting to know that 100% of all donations go directly into helping local families financially as they battle cancers of all varieties. Thank you Mickey for all that you and Vickies does for our community!
My brother, in his 40s, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer 10 years ago. He had his own business making furniture from reclaimed wood. He had 3 small kids at the time and could not work after surgery. Vicky's Angel Walk paid his mortgage for several months and bought food for his family. They were so grateful and so am I.
This compassionate, caring organization helps individuals and families that are in treatment for cancer who are in financial crisis with a temporary financial bridge for basic needs such as housing, utilites, food and transportation.
As a volunteer with Vickie's Angel Foundation I am continually impressed by the pureness of its mission. We financially support cancer patients who are unable to pay their bills. We pay rent/mortgages, utilities, car payments and insurance, along with other bills, and provide gift cards for food and gasoline. Through the generous donations of our Guardian Angel program our operating expenses are covered so all monies we raise can go directly to our clients. Cancer is the battle of your life and we are able to support our clients during their battle by lifting their financial stress.
