My experience with Veterans Rebuilding Life has been nothing short of amazing, especially when compared to other organizations that claim to support veterans. I've seen my fair share of so-called "veterans' services," but what sets this group apart is the genuine care and commitment of the volunteers. They truly go above and beyond to help in ways that feel real and meaningful.

My god!. I had just left the state of Florida after 3 years of being stuck there on family matters that had left me homeless and losing all my memories and belongings, only to come back to my original home NYC and be helped so fast and place in an emergency shelter its just so overwhelmingly grateful this organization was there to help, support and assist. My dog Rocky and I we both thank you from the bottom of both our hearts and we’re very grateful. We will never forget how extremely fast you were able to get us both out the extreme elements and into safe place for my best friend and I.

I was staying in city shelter that was harming my health and service connected disability. When I was in dire need of a safe place to sleep for the night, this agency welcomed me and worked hard to help me get placed somewhere safer. The night volunteer went as far as making a run to the store for over the counter medicine to further relieve my situation and had breakfast for me upon waking. Another fellow veteran volunteer drove me to the VA that morning to navigate resources given to me and later that day I was accepted into veteran housing. I am humbled by and grateful for this organization who made asking for help easy while also empowering me to do the next best thing for myself. Thank you, Veterans Rebuilding Life, for reminding me I’m not alone and helping me keep safe and off the streets that night.

Not only did they deliver free PPE to my local community center/ food bank, but they also provided food, diapers, baby formula, and even purchased a freezer for future food donations which will help keep fresh produce for those who have limited access in our neighborhood. There is not a day that goes by that I don't wake up thinking about Iraq and that I don't go to bed dreaming about it. I didn't come to VRL asking for help. I actually came to volunteer, but when I came in, they asked me about my own wellbeing first. After a few sessions, they referred me to be service connected. After a long battle, I actually won my service connection case thanks to the volunteers at VRL. After that, they gave me opportunities to give back to the community. I never heard of Veterans Rebuilding Life, until the day I needed help.
If you survived the NYC pandemic, then you know how little help was available. Politicians abandoned their posts, and there wasn't a charity in-sight. With no PPE, 1st-responders resorted to using duct-tape and plastic bags to protect themselves on the frontline.

That's when a vehicle marked: "Veterans Rebuilding Life" drove up, and started handing-out boxes of N95 masks, latex gloves, and hand sanitizers. What did they ask for in return? NOTHING. Without Veterans Rebuilding Life, many of us would not be here today.

I am a nurse working at the Manhattan VA NY Harbor Health Hospital. We have been without personal protective equipment for weeks. On Friday, Veterans Rebuilding Life unexpectedly donated 150 medical face shields to my hospital and made sure that every single worker that was present, including our sanitation staff, received a shield. When we asked about the staff that were not present, VRL volunteers said that they would bring us more PPE the following week until every frontline worker was supplied. When we asked about the cost, they told us that the shields were free.

I cannot tell you how much this donation meant to me and my team. Grateful does not even begin to cover it. We are happy to serve our city, but the constant fear of bringing the virus home to our families is overwhelming. These face shields are keeping me and my family safe. Thank you so much for everything you are doing Veterans Rebuilding Life. And thank you to everyone who donated money and time to help make these shields.

Veterans Rebuilding Life helped my uncle, a USMC Vietnam Veteran, when no one else would. When my uncle was injured, VRL sent staff to visit him in the hospital, bought him clothes to wear while he was in the rehab facility before we could get there, and even help us with all of the legal paperwork involved with being able to care for him. They found us a notary and helped us plan for my uncle's future. They listened and were honest with us about the outlook of things. But, more important than anything else, VRL actually did something. I am truly grateful that organizations like Veterans Rebuilding Life exist. If not, I would have given in to cynicism and given up on fighting for my military benefits after being turned away over and over again, by these so-called: "Veteran Service Organizations."

VRL took my case and provided me consistent updates until 4 months later, when all of my issues with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs were 100% resolved! All at no cost to me or my family. I highly recommend this nonprofit organization to any vet on the verge of giving up!

I read about VRL in the Queens Impact Awards, and after reading up on them more I can safely say that we need more organizations like Veterans Rebuilding Life. They are committed to doing good for a group that often goes unnoticed.

Veterans Rebuilding Life is a wonderful organization that aids military service members from all branches of service. This organization had helped me to develop as a leader and become more successful as a Marine Corps officer. In addition to assisting me, I have seen the positive impact that this organization has had for others.

I have volunteered in many different capacities with many different organizations, and this is the first one where I feel like I can make a real difference in what I do. There is no corporate red tape. There is no hidden agenda. The goal is to simply achieve the mission: to help those harmed in the crossfire of war. I am very proud to have experienced the sense of purpose you receive when you have helped another person in a tangible way. I cannot thank or recommend Veterans Rebuilding Life enough.

They get back to you in a timely manner and are available to assist you with whatever you may need on a nearly-constant basis.

This outstanding humanitarian organization continues to be the veteran communities best kept secret. Established by decorated combat vets of the global war on terror, Veterans Rebuilding Life is the ONLY all-volunteer veterans group to provide immediate-assistance to vets in-need, with no strings attached. Strongly recommended to members of both the veteran and philanthropic communities!

I've known members of VRL for years now, and have seen firsthand the level of dedication and compassion they have, not just for veterans, but for their own as well. They truly embrace this idea of "no man left behind" and have put their own lives on hold in order to help their clients.

I've been represented by 4 other Veteran's Service groups. In each case, there was little help, and still had to figure everything out on my own. This is not the case with VRL, they are proactive, and have given me outstanding support and help. And here is the kicker...I came to volunteer at VRL because I've had such a hard time with the VA and wanted to help other Vets. VRL refused my offer because they didn't believe that my benefits were in order. So they started to work on my case and told me that I can volunteer once my case is worked out. That's integrity. And that a far cry from the other groups that have helped me none, and still send a letter every month asking for a donation. Keep up the good work gents!

I'm a veteran who has benefited from this program, and personally interacted with the staff at Veterans Rebuilding Life. I can attest to their high level of commitment and interest in supporting our community. They have been a tremendous help in support of finding my way in civilian life. Connecting me to mental health care, job opportunities, education, and affordable housing in New York. It's a powerful thing to truly care. VBL helped me make the effort for a better quality of life and it hasn't gone unrewarded and I'm forever grateful.

As an Marine Corps Vet of the Iraq War, and EMS for the FDNY, I've been both a client and member of Veterans Rebuilding Life, for the past 5 years. In that time, Veterans Rebuilding Life: RESOLVED EVERY SINGLE VETERAN-RELATED ISSUE I HAD:

They helped me register for military healthcare and education benefits, enroll in a military-friendly college, using my Post-911 GI-Bill, and provided 1-on-1 tutoring for every class I had difficulty with. They offer free legal assistance, accredited internships, community service hours, mediation and mentorship programs, to name just a few of the free services provided for vets–by vets.

Veterans Rebuilding Life is the smallest, most effective veterans organization on the east coast. As the proud grandchild of a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, I am no stranger to the desperate needs of America’s veteran population and the multitude of organizations that aspire to help them. I am also no stranger to how little has verifiably changed in terms of the excessively high rates of veteran unemployment, homelessness, and suicide. That knowledge, coupled with the heartfelt desire to effectively assist veterans just like my grandfather, is what brought me to Veterans Rebuilding Life (VRL) as a volunteer.

VRL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that focuses on directly assisting those who were wounded during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and tackling the veteran suicide crisis. However, unlike many other organizations that I have come across, VRL gives 100% of every donation to those in need, a fact that is easily verifiable due to VRL financial transparency. In addition, VRL refuses funding from any source that might influence how they would be allocated, so that it can ensure that the only parties that benefit from donations are those highest in need (wounded veterans and children). I have never worked with an organization more committed to its mission, ethics, and values.

Open 24/7, on any given night or any hour of the morning, you can find VRL staff or volunteers assisting veterans on the phone, perfecting projects current underway, or brainstorming new programs to meet needs still outstanding in the community. Every director, supporting member, and volunteer has demonstrated the willingness to make any personal sacrifice necessary to ensure that a veteran or child received the assistance that they needed. In my time here, VRL has yet to turn away any honorably discharged veteran that has come to them for help.

In addition, VRL has gone above and beyond in assisting me personally. After only my first time volunteering with the organization, VRL consistently reached out to me to make sure that myself and my family were ok in times of hardship. Their reasoning was that anyone who has given to the organization and the mission are forever members of the VRL family.

Overall, VRL is by the far the most forthright, devoted, and sincerely passionate organization that I have ever had the pleasure of volunteering with. Whether you are a veteran in need of direct assistance, a military family member looking for support, or a community member hoping to make a meaningful difference, VRL will empower you, treat you as family, and always welcome you home.

WIth the controversies clogging national news feeds from other veteran space NGO's, an organization like Veterans Rebuilding LIfe distinguishes itself by giving all donations to veterans. I feel confident that I know fully where my money went. Veterans Rebuilding LIfe provided me thorough documentation for my tax exempt donation. A representative contacted me to express gratitude for the donation, as well as provided me details about the humanitarian mission my donation supported. I feel personally connected to the very people who are aided by this organizaiton. I strongly recommend that donors looking for a worthy veteran cause to support and impact reach out to Veterans Rebuilding LIfe.

As a native New Yorker and member of the FDNY, I am proud to support Veterans Rebuilding Life and their mission to help Post-9/11 veterans and their families through the variety of nonprofit programs the organization provides the tristate area of NYC.

I volunteered to support VRL's project collaboration with a Brooklyn Marine Battalion, to design and develop a permanent memorial commemorating the 1st official casualties of the Global War on Terror, killed on September 11th, 2001, as active NY Firefighters, and Marine Corps reservists. Veterans Rebuilding Life held fundraisers and networked with local organizations to complete the construction of the memorial hall, located at 6th Communication Battalion, Alpha Company Marines, in Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY. A committed group of young decorated combat-vets who refuse to become a part of the problem:
Veterans Rebuilding Life is funded by their own volunteer-staff, in order avoid the cycle of corruption that's consumed veteran organizations nationwide. It also provides VRL the freedom to provide immediate assistance:
Seeking employment, VRL placed me in free, professional training courses, that led to a full time job, they also found for me! As a licensed, professional social worker with extensive experience in the veteran space, I've worked with a variety of NGO/VSO's that offer the same veteran services-limited by the parameters established by the grant-funding these organizations rely on.

By refusing financial support from any source requiring NGO's to compromise their mission, Veterans Rebuilding Life provides a variety of pro bono, veteran services that no other organization can. Established by combat veterans of the global war on terror, VRL offers the veteran community direct-impact solutions, and recruits volunteers from the very community in which they serve.

Awarded the Guidestars: Platinum status 4 years in a row, for a commitment to integrity through public transparency–VRL supporters remain confident their contributions directly support the humanitarian mission. Strongly recommended for those who are fed-up with the bureaucracy and corruption that have become synonymous with the nonprofit world.

VETERANS REBUILDING LIFE (VRL)
Registered as the smallest, nonprofit organization in the United States, VRL was founded by Iraq & Afghanistan veterans. VRL's mission focuses on assisting victims of war to rebuild their lives. VRL's all-volunteer staff pay out-of-pocket to cover daily operating expenses.

PRO BONO SVS.
Are provided by fellow vets who volunteer their professional civilian services including: military benefit registration, school enrollment, employment, legal representation, and much more. VRL fundraisers are held to cover the medical costs of assisting children that were harmed in the crossfire of war.

TO ACHIEVE THIS
VRL receives absolutely NO funding or support from any institution. Their members are driven by a sense of duty that is beyond reason. It is this very same relentlessness that is responsible for VRL's award-winning commitment to integrity.

As a licensed social worker, I've volunteered my professional services with a number of organizations over the years. Never have I seen such a selfless dedication! VRL has a lasting impact on the community they serve. To volunteer with them is truly a unique experience. Highly recommended!
