Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Mission: The Vail Valley Charitable Fund was created in 1996 in order to help locals facing financial hardship due to medical crisis. Through a comprehensive application process, the Vail Valley Charitable Fund awards direct-aid grants to people who live and/or primarily work in the Vail Valley. Applications are reviewed and recipients are determined on a monthly basis by the VVCF Board of Directors. These one-time grants can be up to $5000. If one's need extends the $5000 direct aid grant, they can also apply to have a community based fundraiser to help raise more funds. More info can be found at http://vvcf.org/apply-for-aid/

I have been a volunteer and a donor to the VVCF for a number of years. Their support for those families facing the unbelievable costs of medical crises, both financial and emotional, is without parallel. Their rapid decision-making process is critical to the assistance they provide. No other non-profit in our community addresses those challenges. Their fundraising events are priced so that local families can participate together, with kids' activities in conjunction with adult competitions. I know firsthand from some recipients of VVCF support how this financial assistance helped them recover from major trauma and regain some normalcy in their lives.

After dealing with a medical crisis in my immediate family I decided it was time to "step it up" in my own community. I did some volunteer work for The Vail Valley Charitable Fund and subsequently became a board member. That was well over a decade ago. I have found the VVCF continues to evolve in an active and robust way. The board members are very diverse, creative, compassionate, and energetic- very hands on. Our volunteers are all of that too! I feel this organization gives our community a productive, easy, fun, and satisfying way to help friends and families help those in need in this great community. It is a real honor for me to serve not only those in need but also those who want to help through The Vail Valley Charitable Fund!

The VVCF is a such a wonderful organization. The administrative staff and Board of Directors are honest about what they can and can’t do for you. It has been my experience that they are very organized and thoughtful in their approach to provide funds for our community members that need their help. We are so thankful to have these VVCF humans to help humans in need. ❤️❤️❤️

In a valley with many wonderful charitable causes, the VVCF stands at the head of the class. I have attended numerous VVCF events over the years and am constantly impressed by the kindness and passion that the Charitable Fund helps facilitate. The organization offers hope and solutions when individuals and families are blind-sided by a medical issue and allows neighbors to help neighbors. What a simple and profound mission. So proud that we have such an honorable organization looking out for all of us!

Three years ago, my son had brain surgery and two heart surgeries in a six month's time span. The stress and worry were overwhelming. The Vail Valley Charitable Fund was there for us to help us cope with the financial stress, so we could better focus on our son's health. We have a plethora of non-profits in the Vail Valley, but this community organization fills a crucial gap that none other does and makes me proud to call this place home.

Thank you, thank you, thank you VVCF!

I have worked with the Vail Valley Charitable Fund for almost 20 years. The Board consists of "regular people" in our community, serving others in a time of crisis and need. The organization has a strong base of committed volunteers and donors to the cause - It is truly a vehicle through which neighbors can help neighbors.

Over the past seven years of working with the VVCF on the BecTri Sprint Triathlon we've celebrated the memory and spirit of our daughter, Becky, raised over $150,000 and helped many community members in need. It's a delight to be associated with the wonderful, dedicated, hard-working people of the Vail Valley Charitable Fund and the many family members and friends who volunteer for this event. We can't think of a better way to honor and remember Becky. Many thanks to all at the VVCF. Valinda & Steve Yarberry

VVCF is the silver lining to a very close knit community. When tragedy or hardship effects a person or family it is hard to navigate the many facets that need to be dealt with. The VVCF allows people in these circumstances a safety net of sorts.
Through financial support created by events that are hosted by VVCF the recipients and community take part and come together to help those in need. The legacies of community members that are no longer here on earth are honored and celebrated.
Vail Valley Charitable Foundation is one of the TOP non-profits in a valley where non-profits are amazing. Cheers to Katie Biggers for stepping in and bringing it to new heights.

The team at VVCF is amazing and have so much heart. We have been involved with them for 9 years and donate the proceeds of our event, the LG Tri to the VVCF. Our friend, Laura Genelin lost her battle with cancer, but the VVCF was instrumental in assisting her family during the hard times of her medical crisis.

The team is highly involved in our event and it wouldn't be the success it is without them. We are very thankful for their support and assistance.

Love this group of people!

“I have lived in the Vail Valley since 2002 and have served as a state trooper in the valley since 2008. I truly know what it takes to serve the community. It has always been comforting to know that the Vail Valley Charitable Fund shares the same values that I do in serving our locals. I want to thank the VVCF for all their generosity during the past 16 months of my recovery. It was a true pleasure and an amazing experience to work with them.” -- Local State Trooper

We first became aware of the Vail Valley Charitable Fund 9 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Thyroid Cancer. We had great health insurance and we both had good jobs. Brian is self employed, so he had no sick or vacation time.
The diagnosis of cancer changed our financial status from stable to panicked as he had two surgeries and two sets of treatments. The loss of income was substantial. We received a grant from the Vail Valley Charitable Fund which enabled us to pay some bills while Brian could not work.
As a result of the aid from the VVCF, I wanted to be involved in the organization is some capacity. I was hired as the Executive Director almost 4 years ago! I am so proud of the mission of the organization: to help Eagle County residents that are struggling financially as a result of a medical crisis.
We have helped over 1700 applicants and donated more than $7 million.

"It is with much gratitude that I thank you for your generosity. It has been a journey the last six months emotionally and financially, but your financial gift has eased much worry and burden. Thank you. I have two more surgeries ahead of me, but because of your help I can face them without the worry of how to pay for them.
With deepest thanks,
A grant recipient

The Vail Valley Charitable Fund financially assists locals who are overwhelmed by costs associated with a medical crisis. I donate to this organization because I don't want to see local families declare bankruptcy over a serious medical issue. People who have serious medical conditions should focus on healing, not on how to pay for a procedure or treatment.

VVCF is an absolutely amazing organization and incredible asset to our community. Even with the change in leadership over the last couple of years, VVCF continues to provide crucial assistance to people in need in the Vail Valley. When my son was going through cancer treatment, VVCF held a fundraiser for my family that was an incredible success and one of the most amazing outpourings of support that this valley has ever seen. I am indebted to VVCF and I volunteer to help at as many events as I can, but it is just a token compared to what my family has received from VVCF.

Having been involved with the fundraiser for Cindy Nash that became the catalyst for launching the Vail Valley Charitable Fund, I'm grateful this organization exists. The VVCF has assisted countless individuals and families and continues to bring hope and financial aid to those hit with a devastating medical crisis. I'm proud to be a board member of the VVCF, as it's a working board. I enjoy having a chance to volunteer with outstanding community members and to make a difference in the lives of so many living and working in our community.

I have had the privilege of being Chair of the VVCF since its founding and am proud and honored to help guide such an exemplary organization. The VVCF truly "gives from the heart" by helping those in crisis and expanding hope in our community. Over the past 17 years, the VVCF has been fortunate to give out grants now totaling more than 1,200, recognizing that each grant helps lift the burdens of a family. An equal honor is serving with a Board and Staff of the character, energy, integrity, and compassion that has comprised the organization from the start. This Board and Staff, our faithful volunteers and, of course, our contributors and supporters, is what makes the VVCF stand out and aspire to be great. It is my hope that over the next 17 years we will continue to grow and lend a hand when a hand up -- rather than a hand out -- is needed. The VVCF is truly, "all about heart." We hope you will continue to support us.

I've been a Vail Valley Charitable Fund Board Member for 12 years and I can honestly say it's one of the most active boards I've been on. You'll see board members at events running silent auctions, helping set up and tear down, and do everything in between. When it comes time to consider applications for assistance, compassion, thoughtfulness and practicality rule the discussion. It's a pleasure to be on the Board with so many wonderful people.

Years ago, I was a recipient of the VVCF money and it helped me greatly during my medical crisis. It was given with dignity and professionalism and I will never forget it. I am now able to give back to this local organization by volunteering and paying it forward. I am proud to be a part of this effort.

I have been aware of the services provided by the VVCF for years and have always applauded their efforts and their methods. They provide financial assistance to locals who are facing extraordinary medical costs in crisis. I have always been a donor and occasionally a volunteer. I hope I never have to be on the receiving end, but I know they would be there. They keep their operating costs to a bare minimum so the funds they raise can go directly to those in need. And their fund raising efforts are community wide in both the locations of their events and the types of events, so it's actually fun to write a check!

The Vail Valley Charitable fund has accomplished things that are very difficult for a non-profit. They simultaneously support individual community members while providing meaningful activities that generate revenue and exposure to the same community. It is this type of symbiotic relationship with the community that makes them special and should make them an example to other organizations.

I have been an avid participant in these activities and watched them grow and enrich the community over the years. I have also been a caregiver for a friend with cancer that was a recipient of aide from this organization.
