Mission: To increase student awareness of the role of agriculture in the state of utah
Programs: In service training - agriculture in the classroom, funded by the foundation, provides in-service training to current k-12 teachers through the utah state office of education and school districts statewide. Aitc conducts several workshops during the summer and offers teachers the opportunity to enroll in online courses for utah state university credit.
pre-service training - utah agriculture in the classroom (aitc) provides training to k-6 undergraduate majors at 8 utah universities and training for secondary education majors at 4 universities. This training familiarizes student teachers with aitc resources and other training opportunities.
aitc e-store - aitc has developed an online e-store that teachers can access to order dvds, instructional kits, posters, maps, and other classroom resources that can be used to support agricultural literacy content and other state and national education standards.
curriculum development - aitc staff devlop instructional resources including lesson plans, kits, maps, games, etc. That are correlated with the utah core curriculum mandated by the state office of education. Most resources are free. Others are priced on a cost recovery basis.
outreach education - aitc staff are engaged in several educational outreach programs that meet an informal youth audience (outside of public education), and at times adult audiences. Farm field days, after school programs, museum presentations, 4-h clubs and agricultural organization presentations are some of the groups and sites worked with.
