Mission: Provide education to members and the public concerning management, development, cultural significance and the use of natural and cultural lands and resources of the native americans in utaj and the four corners region.
Programs: In 2016, utah dine bikeyah (udb) realized its primary goal in december when president obama declared a national monument at bears ears. The proclamation created a tribal commission and a role for traditional knowledge in management. Many activities were carried out on the ground toward this goal including hosting community meetings, providing updates to native communities, providing technical and logistical support to coalition of 5 tribes, working with numerous partner organizations, and substantially growing our outreach capacity on and off reservation among the public. Udb hired two new staff and our representatives were quoted in hundreds of media stories (including local, regional, and national media outlets). Udb pulled floats and had dozens of volunteers march in six parades. (instead of throwing candy, we purchased 13,000 bears ears pencils and erasers and handed these out for children to use at school. ) we tabled at fairs handing out materials and collecting signatures in support for bears ears. In all we reached tens of thousands of native americans and helped to communicate these interests to the american public.
