Urban Vision has been great for my kids! They have had so many great experiences from summer camp, boy scouts, ballet, internships, engineering, mentoring and more. My kids got involved with the set on success after school program in elementary and junior high school and now that they are older they are teaching and serving children younger than them! My children have been given the opportunity to become friends with children from different racial and ethnic backgrounds which broadens their perspective and outlook for the future. My kids are willing to learn different and new things all of the time. I'm grateful that Urban Vision is serving the community of North Hill and also instilling a sense of purpose in my kids by giving them an opportunity to serve and share the gospel in real and tangible ways!
A few weeks before I retired from 46 years of teaching, I learned that Urban Vision had the need for a volunteer with my experience. Since I had been wondering how I could use my skills once I retired, I signed up to volunteer. Spending 4 hours a week at Urban Vision has become the highlight of my week! The staff are very friendly and appreciative, and the students I work with are a delight. In addition, working with students has helped me to remain mentally alert and maintain my knowledge of the material which I taught for so many years. Sharing in the "aha" moments when a student finally understands a concept is a huge blessing! Since I work with middle school and high school students, it is a joy to have a part in helping in a program designed to train the leaders of tomorrow.
Super awesome and enriching ministry. Definitely worth my investment. The staff here loves the Lord and empowers the children to do so as well. What a light to the community! - Jim
Urban Vision have me hope when I didn’t know I needed it. I applied to be a volunteer, but was worried they wouldn’t accept me because of my non-religious past. However, everyone welcomed me with open arms. The staff is amazing and the kids are beyond incredible. Moving to college was a really hard transition for me, but volunteering at Urban Vision gave me a reason to make it through the week. It was the highlight of my day, and usually the best part of my week. I always felt better after going there, and it gave me the confidence boost I needed to get involved with my college more. I’m now doing much better, but I still look forward to going to Urban Vision because even though I’m just a volunteer, it really does feel a bit like home.
