Mission: To provide affordable housing, small business training and youth development opportunities to improve neighborhoods across baton rouge and the surrounding region.
Programs: Urec renovated and now manages two housing comunities to meet the needs of over 200 low to moderate income persons annually. The two housing communities are urban meadows apartment community and urban villa grandparents house apartment community.
urec acquires and rehabilitates homes in distressed, high poverty neighborhoods. These homes are rehabilitated to provide affordable housing opportunities for low to moderate income families living in baton rouge.
urec operates multiple youth development programs to assist students in grades k-12. The homework assistance program provides a community based tutorial service which includes basic academic studies, conflict resolution skills and self-esteem acivities. The children defense freedon school is a summer enrichment program with five essential components - high quality academic enrichment; parent and family involvement; civic engagement and social action; intergenerational servant leadership development; and nutrition, health , and mental health. The north baton rouge youth development program is a summer service program for youth ages 14-18 that prepares at risk youth for future academic and career success. The 21st century learning centers provide academic enrichment opportunities for children attending low performing schools.
