I made a donation in honor of my children over a week ago. I have yet to get that email conformation. Since I am 2000 miles away, I must question your legitimacy. Read like a great organization. We need a confirmation
Urbanlife is such a great org! Fun to volunteer at the Urbanlife farms, the Urbanlife cafe at the YMCA is such a cool place and great for first time job experience for youth in City Heights. The org is so much more than that but it's been really special to be a part of it!
UrbanLife is so awesome. I started going consistently a year ago, when I wanted to join a community of faith and fellowship. Ever since I started going, I felt that I was considered part of the family, and that they were there to support and love me. The way they radically love all of the youth and people in their missional communities is just so amazing, you can see the change in the youth the longer they are part of UL.
I have been continually amazed at the great work Urban Life Ministries (UL) does in City Heights. I have been volunteering there for six years. I think I have been touched in such a wonderful way due to the love I see being expressed through the great service to the youth in the community.
The UL farms produces not only great veggies but also great young people who learn great life skills from growing the veggies to distribution to taking on leadership roles on the farm teams.
The UL Tables program has been so fun to watch as the leader/instructor teaches the youth about nutrition, serving, amazing knife skills, and catering. The teams of students work hard and are rewarded as they can go on to find employment using the skills they have acquired. The food I have had the pleasure of eating is quite pleasing to the palette!
City Heights Runners does an amazing job of training young student/athletes to work hard to improve their running times. The kids learn to be part of a team where everyone needs to perform their best to win the team events. School grades are very important to the students. Without passing grades they are unable to participate in the meet. So the students are very motivated!
For students that are struggling with academics UL offers free tutoring in everything from learning English as a second language to Chemistry. I have been a part of a tutoring team to help the students improve their grades. It is so fun to see their eyes light up when a new concept is grasped.
I believe the City Heights community would feel a huge loss if there was not a UrbanLife Ministries!
I have been involved with UL ministries in various capacities for the past 5 years and have been a witness to how lives are being changed by their presence in City Heights, a neighborhood that I call home. There are a number of cross sections that UL serves within the diverse population that makes up CH. They journey with students from various cultural backgrounds, countries of origin, religion and ethnicity. Their stories are varied yet all are valued and are what make City Heights and Urban Life unique. From the shared meals and weekly meetings to coaching, tutoring and involvement in the school system; creating opportunities for employment and training from Urban Farms with a CSA to keep it sustainable to UrbanLife Tables, a catering business that trains students in a variety of capacities to host meals. These programs are focused on the needs in this community and are led by a dedicated, hard working, talented group of individuals that i call neighbors.
From inception, Urban Life Ministries has been spiritually transformative and life changing. I was given the opportunity to take up leadership roles as a teenager and serve on the College Life team later on when I graduated high school; where, I helped plan retreats and weekly Bible study sessions for college students. I met my mentor and formed several long lasting friendships. It created a space where I didn't feel judged and always felt welcomed back no matter how much time had passed. It gave me a community to rely on and pray with. I'm not quite sure of my role now within Urban Life, but I know that God keeps drawing me back...
I love UrbanLife Farms. My interactions with the Farm Director Amanda has been amazing. She is professional, friendly and kind. I appreciate the time she took to explain to me their CSA program. The Russian Kale was amazing! (Don't tell the politicos) Here's to healthy eating and employing teens!
Hello,
My name is Jeremy Robinson, I am married to Antwanette Robinson, we have kids and we live in Lemon Grove San Diego.
We have been trying to be better as parents to provide healthier meals and snacks for our kids but also explain why. As we add more fruits and vegetables to our diet it has been a true blessing for our family to be apart of the UrbanLife Farms CSA program. For Antwanette and I, its been a blessing to drive our normal routes in the neighborhood and see teenagers working hard on the farm, caring for the food we will eventually be eating as a family. I have personally known a couple of teenagers that have gone through the farm internship and I have noticed them mature quickly and enter the work force responsibly.
What I love most about UrbanLife is, they are not about UrbanLife. UrbanLife is about loving and serving families in Urban San Diego.
Thank you UrbanLife!

Thanks AmeriWorks, for your great review and your partnership! We love what you're doing to open up more jobs in our communities and we are excited to work together.
I have volunteered with Urban Life for 5 years with the City Heights Runners program. They are always true to their mission and really put students first. I like that all employees live in the neighborhood they serve and take a long term view of what "success" looks like with regard to youth development.
