Being affiliated with this agency for a long time, it is unfortunate that I ended up with low regard of them as utterly weak in legal practice and advocating those who are marginalized even if they are the target clienteles. They only handle a limited number of actual cases as far as I have seen over the course of time so the roles they play in litigation and legal representation are weak. They sure are more sensitive about what's in trend, or even cutting edge, in correlation with current and updated laws but what are they good for when they are idealist yet useless amateurs? Plus, their heavy reliance on interns makes the quality of services they offer questionable, or even unsound.

Mission: The Urban Justice Center provides legal representation and advocacy to poor and homeless New Yorkers. The purpose of our work is to effect social change in the areas of civil and human rights, with a particular emphasis on systemic advocacy and litigation.We defend the rights of people who are often overlooked or turned away by other organizations, including the homeless; the mentally ill; domestic violence survivors; lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth; people suffering human rights abuses caused by U.S. social welfare policies; grassroots community groups; sex workers; and street vendors.
Programs: The Urban Justice Center represents an extraordinary array of the most deprived and abused people in our society, including members of the working poor, and issues related to discrimination and oppression. We implement creative and intelligent strategies that enable us to provide desperately needed legal services and advocacy to unrepresented and under-represented groups and individuals in York City.Our wide-ranging client base is served by the following Projects: Community Development, Domestic Violence, Homelessness Outreach and Prevention, Human Rights, Mental Health, Peter Cicchino Youth, Sex Workers, and Street Vendor. These Projects focus on different, but often interrelated aspects of injustice. Each of our Projects has a Project Director who works with the Executive Director and is directly responsible for the work of their Project and for the performance of their team of attorneys, advocates, and researchers.
