Causes: Community Improvement & Capacity Building
Mission: Uptown partners is a community-based organization of residents, institutions, and business owners-working together to build a vibrant uptown community.
Programs: Some of our many accomplishments include: -initiating a quarterly community newsletter -creating a website (www. Uptownpartners. Org) to provide citizen information on city resources, events and opportunities, concerns and updates -hosted and coordinated a community-wide visioning process for an uptown community development plan -host quarterly community meetings for all who live and work in uptown -provided free roof, electrical, plumbing and other home repairs to elderly, low-income homeowners through rebuilding together pittsburgh -planted nearly 100 street trees in an continuous effort to green uptown -work with the police department to increase safety through more frequent surveillance and cameras and curtailing prostitution -held two community-building street festivals -brought three large public art murals to uptown buildings; and other public sculptures -initiated a community vegetable garden in low-income residential neighborhood -formed partnerships with duquesne university and upmc mercy hospital to implement up goals -joined adjacent neighborhoods in transportation assessment to improve multi-modal connectivity between our communities -greened a critical portal to uptown with community partners -supported a mobile medical unit for low-income residents and the deaf community -work with the urban redevelopment authority to stabilize, through ura purchase, three blighted, vacant buildings for redevelopment -advocated for residents at city hearings against large parking lots in neighborhood -supported historic designation of critical building to protect from demolition -created a developers resource book to attract new investors and businesses -facilitated new uptown trash receptacles for neighborhood -coordinated mayor's clean-sweep of uptown to address blight issues -worked with duquesne university on annual earth day cleanup of uptown -joined the port authority of allegheny county to promote bus rapid transit concept -work with city's bureau of building inspection to condemn or save vacant buildings -work with potential and new developers to encourage the financing of real estate projects
