Mission: Saving limbs, changing children's lives.
Target demographics: Children across the globe are suffering from rare and neglected bone diseases, limb deficiencies, and skeletal abnormalities access limb-saving and life-changing medical care.
Direct beneficiaries per year: The unLIMBited Foundation has sponsored over $1 million in temporary housing for more than 300 children to receive life-changing treatment.
Geographic areas served: We serve a local and global community of children and families accessing medical care at Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute.
Programs: Our Financial Aid program supports our mission of making limb saving care accessible to children through financial assistance of nonmedical expenses, specifically housing. Families face huge financial burdens in trying to save their children’s limbs from unnecessary amputations and lifelong disabilities. The cost of everyday living expenses can be devastating for many families that have taken a leave of absence from their employment in order to be close to the treatment hospital. The average length of stay is 3 to 6 months, but in some cases they may be required to relocate for up to a year. Housing costs can range from $3,000.00 to $5,000.00 per month on top of the expenses they continue to have at home. In these times of financial uncertainty, the Financial Aid program is vital to the families we serve and the future of these children. Through our Medical Innovation program, we promote the dissemination of cutting edge techniques for the treatment of rare and challenging congenital, developmental and post-traumatic orthopedic abnormalities. To that end, the unLIMBited Foundation sponsors a variety of educational opportunities designed surgeons, fellows, residents and medical students, in the United States and abroad, who wish to augment their knowledge of and treatment skills in limb lengthening and deformity correction.
