Nonprofit Overview

Mission: Welcome! The United Women’s Ball Hockey Foundation was started to support and develop the women's ball hockey community by providing opportunities for increased women's participation, advancement, and awareness at a local, regional, and national level. Though the women’s game has been gradually growing, we want to ensure it keeps growing. How will we accomplish this, you ask? Our intention is to spread the word about our wonderful sport of ball hockey, a sport that has brought so many of us together from across the United States and around world. Unfortunately, many people do not realize that ball hockey even exists and that there are a variety of ways to get involved in the sport. From recreational leagues to the highest international competitions, ball hockey can be enjoyed at all skill levels. We want to start at the grass roots level, working with youth programs and communities around the country to run camps for kids and adults. We would like to establish a community that helps women get involved, find out what hockey leagues are near them, and put them in touch with regional contacts. We also want to keep women informed on tournaments that host a Women’s division. We plan on running fundraising events to grow the Foundation so we can give back and in turn, keep the sport growing. We want to bring in fans of the game, families, and athletes alike while allowing established ice and field hockey players another avenue of competition. We want input from our peers, the men and women who currently play, and those who have played this sport in years past. We want to know your stories. We want to hear from players that have children who now play and the opportunities this sport has provided them. We want to know how we can help provide chances for others to experience all this game has to offer. On the surface, ball hockey is a simple game. All you need is a stick and a ball. For those that play, the simple truth is that this sport gives back tenfold what you put in. Ball hockey has brought people together form various walks of life from all across the country to create an extended family and community. We feel this simple truth should be shared with others and recognized, so that many more young girls can be impacted in such a positive way. The girls who start playing today can grow up learning how it feels to be part of a team, work hard for each other, feel as though they are valued by their peers, and as a result grow into confident women that will have memories and bonds that last a lifetime. This is our goal…This is our passion…This is OUR sport…and it is all for the love of the game!

I am a volunteer coach for the UWBHF. Co-founders Alessandra and Karen, work work very hard to raise the participation level as well as the skill level in the women's game. The tournaments are exciting and well organized and the clinics are simply a fun way to give back to the ball hockey community! The UWBHF has held clinics for youths and adults locally in MA and as far away as the Quad Cities in the midwest. All of the volunteers are great people and work hard to make every event the best it can possibly be.

UWBHF is an organization that says what they mean- they work hard to give women and girls an opportunity to grow in the hockey community. They always put together teams for novice players, or those who may not have a foothold with an established team. The international-caliber coaches engage the girls at their tournaments to truly become part of their community. Getting girls together for sports teams is an amazing outlet, and I am grateful for the organizers who give us so many opportunities to play the game we love!

My daughter had an awesome experience playing in a tournament last weekend with UWBHF. What a great group of players. She said there was tough competition but everyone was so nice. She really enjoyed herself and was so excited to take part in the tournament. Kayleigh can’t wait until the next tournament.

We also traveled from Pittsburgh for the tournament. We were welcomed by the entire community and my daughter had a blast playing in her first all female tournament. She normally plays on a team made up of mostly boys. She made new friends and contacts with an all girl Pittsburgh team that she looks forward to practicing with soon. She loves all things hockey and this didn’t disappoint!

First class organization that gives female players, both younger and older, a voice. Having a younger daughter that has played coed since she was 9, we really did not know what she would do once she aged out of the youth leagues at 16. Now that we are involved with this organization I am confident that they will continue to grow the sport and that there will be a wealth of opportunities for our present and future female ball hockey athletes.

After attending Oktoberfest this past weekend, where my niece participated with her USA U20 team, in preparation for their trip to Slovakia in July, it was apparent that this organization is 100% dedicated to all females who love this sport. The people involved want the younger generation to achieve their goals and are willing to share their knowledge and skill no matter the age. What a wonderful organization to have helping the female youth of thisnsport.

Last weekend, my 14 year old daughter had the privilege of traveling from Pittsburgh, PA to Dracut, MA for Oktoberfest. What a wonderful time it was. We received a lot of information of ball hockey opportunities that we didn’t know were out there. Thanks to this organization and everything they do to not only let the girls enjoy the sport they love, but also learn and grow as a player.
