United Way gets more bang for the buck. While other organizations focus solely on specific areas, United Way makes an impact in hundreds of areas, creating holistic solutions! From supporting programs that teach the blind to live with dignity and independence, to helping children succeed in school, providing meals to home-bound elderly, I have found United Way's reach to be wider and stronger than any other in the metro region! Wow! I am not surprised the organization continues to do well on Charity Navigator because its fiscal responsibility and high regard among community sectors, leaders and donors give it a powerful reputation we all can trust! Congratulations United Way! Keep up the great work!!!
The United Way of Atlanta is colluding with the City of Atlanta and the monied interests to shut down the only shelter in Atlanta with any real capacity to help the homeless of Atlanta, the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless. I am SO ANGRY and will NEVER donate a penny to them again. Read some of their many filthy pharisee-worthy deeds: http://www.atlantaprogressivenews.com/interspire/news/2010/03/12/breaking-city-cap-conspired-to-sabotage-homeless-shelter--part-1.html. Donate to services helping homeless people-- not fake fronts helping a couple homeless people while stabbing the vast majority in the back.
I used United Way as a resource when I was in some very hard times. I'm thankful we had it because it provided us information on where we could get food, where we could get bill assistance and etc. At the same time though, there was a lot of times United Way gave wrong information, which could have been easily avoided. Overall though, I would say they've helped a lot though.
