This year I went to the United Way to have my taxes done. Fabulous job, very efficient and professional considering the pandemic. I would highly recommend checking them out.
I haven’t filed taxes in years. The crew was so patient and were beyond helpful. I have to send some additional information to them. I am legally blind and this program is so helpful. I am thankful to have found this service.

This organization has been providing tax preparation and review services to the senior community of North Brunswick (among many others). I have relied on them to file my state and federal taxes for several years and I have never been disappointed by their service, even during the Covid pandemic.

I have been using VITA Services since 2022. I used to get an appointment by phone from the Milltown office and I went to the Edison Library to fill up the forms and drop off the paperwork and picked up at the same location. This year 2025 I went to Milltown office with an appointment to do the same procedure, took a little longer to get done but it is reasonable.
I recomeded your Tax Prep Program to a co-worker and I would recomend to anyone who is a low income and can't not afford to pay $300.00 to prepare the Tax Return.
I also, submitted my son's paperwork and I was assisted by Margareth and Charmaine to whose I am gratefull. Than you, also to Sandra who answers the phone.

Being a senior here in Sayreville, NJ, I was so happy to learn that there are volunteer CPAs helping Sayreville seniors to do their taxes. I can't say thank you enough to all of you and the hard work you put into that job.
I moved here from Brooklyn, NY, about five years ago and used to do my own taxes (using Turbo Tax) when I was working. I am now retired. Finding reputable accountants is a task within itself. Again, a big thank you to all of the volunteers!
First this is the most wonderful helpful professional service . I have been coming here many years .I would recommend it highly .i do have a few concerns.i feel that too many appointments are scheduled for the same time .there is not enough volunteers. And certainly not enough chairs at this location.. considering I was there 3 hours .I am disabled and luckily some one let me sit down
In past we went in and did the taxes right along with the people and have the chance to ask questions..now you give your papers and they go in the back and do them then you sign them and that's it . There is also papers expected to be filled out before you go and printed out to make the process faster ..of the many people there I saw 1 other guy did it .which then means someone has to come out and help fill these papers out for everyone..that' slows the whole day down .as I mentioned I was there 3 hours even tho I was completely prepared .my suggestions would be to have plenty of volunteers available. Have enough seating available and go back to the old day of doing it along with the people.i know it is checked by more than 1 person but it's double the work and double the time .and don't schedule so many people at once . everyone there had the same appointment as I did ..that would be fine if there was lots of volunteers .I don't wish to appear ungrateful because I am very thankful for the expert help. I had been a client for several years before the pandemic..this service is so wonderful and a big help .I didn't feel comfortable leaving all my information during the pandemic so I did it myself ..I was happy that they opened it up in person this year .when I got there I assumed it was going to be the same procedure..that they do them with you and answer all the questions as you go along .instead they take all your info, go into into the back and you sit outside in the hallway . In the back someone does it. It's checked by someone then they call you back to go over it again ..we set in the hallway 2 hours ..when we got in the back to go over it there were several errors that needed to be corrected which wouldn't have had to be done if it had been done as in the past With you . I also noticed as I sat in the hallway that one of the volunteers had to keep coming out to ask someone else some questions.
I questioned that and was told the room was too small to have all the people In. It's the same room as they always used ...you were also required to fill out online the intake form and another form online before you got there ..that might not be so easy for older folks ..im sure it makes it easier but we filled out another form much the same when we got there so what was the point... We used to be able to fill the forms out there while we were waiting ..This service is wonderful and I don't mean to complain. I am used to the way they used to do it which seemed to be very smooth .

I had an amazing experience filing my taxes with our neighborhood non-profit The Launch Center. A Resources Center sponsored by Interfaith Neighbors. The workers there are very kind and knowledgeable. They were patient with me seeing that I'm a senior citizen. They were very friendly. I told them I was going to tell all my friends and neighbors to drop in.
My experience with VITA was wonderful. I received confirmation on line, paperwork and instruction about my visit. I was contacted by phone the day before to confirm. I also received a text reminder the day of my appointment. My appointment was with Charmaine Rodriguez. She was so pleasant and knowledgeable about my situation.

Though VITA did my 2023 taxes several months ago, they came thru for me again when I tried to do my annual Property Tax Rebate II form-- only to discover that my vision had declined so much since the preceding year, that I could no longer read the questions. They immediately gave me an appointment the next day they would be open and the volunteer filled it out for me lickety-spli,t and with charming warmth as well! I went to the United Way in Milltown, NJ. I started with them over 7 years ago and every year I go back because the volunteers there are very professional, respectful of your privacy, accurate with the calculations on my taxes and make you feel like family.
* It is very easy to make appointments
* When you arrive for your appointment, you are not sitting too long in the waiting area. Also, when you return to pick up your return your only waiting in the lobby is about ten minutes which is good.
* When the preparer goes over your taxes with you, they make sure you understand everything they did.
*The ONLY thing I wish was different is they have a receptionist to answer phones, make appointments, ect...
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND UNITED WAY AND THOSE THAT ARE ABLE AND WILLING TO LEARN HOW TO DO TAXES TO COME OUT ASSIST THEM. YOU WON'T REGRET IT.

I am a 75-year-old senior citizen with a limited income of Social Security. United Way of Central Jersey Inc. prepared my Federal and State taxes, free of charge. My preparer was Vanna. She did this as a volunteer. She went over every single item, explaining everything, so I would understand perfectly what she did. I did not have to pay any taxes and everything was done totally correctly and legally. I am so grateful for this kind service, there are no words to express. Thank you!
I had Charmaine as the person who prepared and processed my federal and state income tax forms. Charmaine was terrific. She was professional and caring. Thank you United Way for having such professional and caring staff. I received both my refunds.
As much as I appreciate the free income tax service, each year since 2020 there seems to be issues in communication. In the recent past, when changes to their protocol were made from previous years, there hasn't been any prior notification of the changes. Ex: When picking up completed tax records in 2022, you would pick up at the place of drop off, then a date & time to go over the forms would be set at that moment. In 2023, I went to pick up the forms expecting to do the same and was told to wait approx. an hour for an available person to go over them. When you haven't been informed of the changes and don't have the time for the unexpected, it's frustrating. This year, I was asked to produce a pin# because it's required if you want your refund to be a direct deposit. Not only did I provide it more than once, but also highlighted it so it wouldn't be missed, and I still received a check in the mail instead of the direct deposit. Again, this service is very much appreciated, but knowing what to expect ahead of time and attention to the small details is helpful.
This was our first time going to get our taxes done at the local senior citizen office. Very nice people and done the same day for free. We will definitely go there again next year.
They were very patient when assisting me and made sure to clear all of my doubts regarding the tax forms.

Hello, I'm Martin, currently I'm 15 years old and are about to wrap up my month-long VITA internship here at UWCJ. I first caught wind of the internship while searching for activities to do in the summer at Middlesex County College. I immediately signed and now have learned tax law concepts such as state and federal tax regulations and federal tax codes. We also have worked on completing certification tests that will help us be preparers. Once all of that we, the volunteers, reviewed clients for tax intakes and preparations. Overall, my involvement in UCWJ’s Vita internship program is something I don't regret signing up for and would recommend other kids my age aspiring to increase their knowledge in tax to sign up for.
My name is Vinuta R, and I am an intern at the United Way of Central Jersey for the VITA Tax Program 2023 Summer. I learned about the VITA Summer Internship program through my high school DECA advisor, as I am interested in the business field and wanted to get hands on experience working with tax returns and professionals. Through this internship, I gained experience through taking a certification course to ensure that I am ready to prepare tax returns for the general public, which includes figuring out how to file their information and documents as well as keeping their information secured and private. A couple of the key tax law concepts include filing status, the taxpayer's gross income, and ensuring that they have all necessary documents and have completed their intake form. These are a couple examples of how we can ensure that they have a secured form of income, and also assist us to file their tax returns. The target population of the clients whose returns I helped prepare at the VITA site include lower income and elderly individuals. We filed their tax returns for free and ensured that they did not have any fees or penalties next tax year. Through doing intakes, client reviews, and tax returns and preparation, I have definitely taken away a lot of new information about the IRS, how to file taxes, and how the realm of accounting works. I really enjoyed this internship, and definitely look forward to helping out every tax year.

I am thankful that I was able to file my taxes through United Way. My only issue was with the person answering to make the appointments for clients. Many of us who came to file did not know we needed copies of the materials and what types of documents we needed to have. This caused a problem trying to make copies and having to submit documents needed to file the tax. The tax agent was very kind even though it was a confusion between the secretary of the Piscataway nursing Home and the volunteer who were supposed to be there to help clients. The secretary was very confused and were giving the wrong info to Clint’s about the time and process. United Way should have someone there from its own office to service and answer clients questions. Also it was a back and forth with Charmaine trying to reach me and me trying to reach her. When I called I am transferred to the line. Once again there is not a person from the tax department or knowledgeable about tax filing answering the phone. When I asked her what documents I needed she wasn’t sure. Even though she was the one making appointments for clients. United need to revamp customer service. Also many clients either left upset because they made an appointment but had to wait so long to file the paperwork. During the time I files in February there was only one volunteer there servicing the clients. On another note, appreciated being able to file my tax without charge and I appreciated the service I received, except for what I mentioned above. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to send a review.

We having been having our taxes prepared with them for about 4 years now. We used to go to one of the college locations for in person preparation but since the pandemic its been uploading documents and phone calls. I appreciate this feature as safety first is important for all. I will be a returning customer in years to come as long as I qualify.

The United Way of Central NJ is one great Non profit for taxes and have wonderful, knowledgeable,and experience people working for them. My family and my experience with the United Way of Central NJ located in Milltown, NJ for the last 3 years is wonderful, especially this year due to the Covid 19 crisis. We couldn't get our taxes done in person and I couldn't do face time with them, so when i called them, they went above and beyond and worked out a system to help my family and myself get our taxes done in time for the July deadline. They had us drop off our taxes at their center in June, 2020, and the wonderful women who work here, Amy, Charmene, and Ingrid made sure
our taxes were done for the July due date. They are 3 wonderful women who were kind, very articulate, and knowledgeable getting our taxes done. These three women made sure we had all the information they needed, and made sure we were 100% satisfied with their work. They sacrificed a lot to make sure our tax needs were met, and I thank them immensely. I want to thank Amy, Charmene, an Ingrid once again for their hard work to accommodate us in these trying times. I actually had an appointment scheduled elsewhere, but it was cancelled because of Covid-19. I called United Way of Central NJ and spoke to Ingrid about my situation. She was very understanding, personable, professional, and reassuring that UWoCNJ would be able to do my taxes. Everything went very very smoothly, even though it was around mid-March! I am sorry to say I did not get any of the other staff's names other than Ingrid, but I found them to professional and pleasant. I will definitely be using UWoCNJ next year. This is a wonderful service!! I had my tax preparation done here which is a free service for certain qualifying residents. The people are professional, kind and courteous! They are very efficient and knowledgeable. I would have given 5 starts, but for the fact that this year the Dropbox and HelloSign technologies were giving problems and I had to keep re-submitting information, unlike last year. I know they will address that to get it resolved. I will continue to use this very valuable service. Job well done to all those with whom I had contact during my tax preparation!

Had a wonderful experience with filing my taxes this year! The process was quick and easy; I also found that the format and layout of the website was intuitive and simple to use. All of my documents were checked for errors, which is great because I unfortunately enter a few incorrect values in some of the boxes by mistake which was picked up during the meticulous review of my data. It’s a great program, I started this program during a pandemic with the help of Aanji Acosta. This program is very helpful for encouraging family childcare centers like mine by providing educational and age appropriate materials like books and toys and also educational worksheets.
Angie Acosta is an intelligent and helpful person, being in touch with me and making sure we have the supplies well in advance to use them in class. She also provides suggestions if required. This year was more challenging preparing taxes than prior years given the Covid situation.
I for one am very grateful that a safe and effective process was devised by United Way to provide this service.

My 2019 taxes were done online by the Untired Way. Thank you to the United Way of Milltown, NJ and their staff for preparing my 2019 taxes. They were very professional, understanding and patience. I had problems with some of my files downloading. The Senior Center of Piscataway NJ recommended the United Way. I am so grateful for their recommendation. I will be back next year because I couldn't believe how much I owed the IRS; a small amount. Again, thank you for preparing my taxes and your professionalism. See you next year if it's God's will.

My first experience with Untied Way CJ in( Milltown NJ )was professional, fast and efficient!
I chose them to do my taxes through the FREE VITA tax program. When I arrived I meet Ingrid , who briefed me on procedures regarding the paper work need to be filled out ,and documents I need to start the process.
I arrived on foot (not by car) and there was a large table and chairs outside the office which was useful to be able to sit and fill out the tax forms provided by UW. It made it more comfortable on the HOT day. I spent maybe 30mins filling out my forms and Ingrid came out of the office to check on me frequently while also taking care of other clients as well.
Once my forms were completed Ingrid reviewed all the information and asked questions as needed for accuracy. I was then told to come back to the office the following week day to verify and sign my tax documents.
My experience and interaction with Ingrid was seamless, pleasant, warm and professional. we also connected culturally as Jamaicans and shared many memories of our sweet Island JAMAICA!
The following week on my appointment back to review, sign and pick up my documents, again I was greeted by Ingrid, The parking lot at the premises was very busy with clients. Ingrid acknowledged me while assisting other clients as I waited patiently for my turn.
While waiting staff member Charmaine came out of the office to help out with the busy crowd as well. Charmaine called me by name as she approached with my tax paperwork in hand. Charmaine asked that I review my completed tax paperwork for accuracy, so there after tax preparer Andrew would go over the paperwork with me via the phone outside of the office.(due to the Covid-19 & social distancing).
I did not have my phone with me that day, so Charmaine offered her phone to me to speak with Andrew. I reviewed with Andrew and in conclusion asked if I had any concerns or questions. Everything was accurate so I had no further questions, but to thank Andrew for his service in preparing my taxes.
My interaction with Charmaine and Andrew was professional, warm and efficient service. I thank you Charmaine for offering up your phone , as I had left mine home.
In closing I want to THANK everyone at the United Way in Central NJ ,( Milltown NJ) for your generous, dedicated and tireless work during this pandemic. We couldn't get our TAXES done without you being there, when many was forced to close during the lock down.

Helped me with my taxes for the last 2 years. Very helpful because I wasn't sure how to do it the right way. Everything was explained over the phone before the forms were sent in. And any questions I had were answered.They were even available to help during the pandemic. I got my return very fast.

I've gone to United Way many years now to get my taxes done. They have been efficient, professional and always willing to offer the best advice with my taxes. They also call you back should you have any question for them. I think they're wonderful. And during this troubling time (with the Coronavirus) they went out of their way to accommodate me...as they always do for everyone. A+ .

On September 25, 2019 I came to the United Way in Milltown N.J. for tax help. Years 2016,2017 and 2018, Obviously nervous and not sure of how things would turn out. The experts who volunteer there helped me with my taxes and made me feel relaxed during the process. I would sincerely recommend there services to anyone who is in need of a friendly conversation and of course tax help.

going into the office,I was worried about my tax status with several years of unfiled taxes. Clear and easy no debt but a fifty dollar return. That is better than owing thousand. Thank you United Way, i can sleep better now.
I had put into disability and waited 7 long years to be accepted. I had lost my home by that time and was homeless for 4 years. Just making it through the day with some kind of shelter and food for the day is a lot in that condition. Finally when the disability came I got a home which was affordable. During all this time I had never thought about getting my income taxes done. Ten years went by, I was getting notices from them. I couldn't afford to have them all done.I happened to find out that united way helps a person with this particular problem.I called their number and a lovely lady answered the phone and gave me an appointment. She and others helped me to get all ten of my income taxes done. They put a lot of work into helping me. I can't thank them enough.
It all started when I went to my usual tax guy, but he botched my tax returns! I called the IRS for help and was guided to the United Way in Milltown, NJ. The staff are super professional and so understanding, I felt like I was sitting with a good friend. I am so glad that it was recommended for me to visit this location, I will definitely be back next year!! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would give a million!!! I really enjoyed my visit ❣️

My wife and I are recently retired and having a very difficult time navigating filing our 2018 tax return and the impact of social security and the ACA. The IRS website provided free help to seniors over 65 and I was directed to United Way of Central Jersey. After meeting with the volunteer who did a wonderful job, we were directed to the manager who finalized our return and spent over an hour to do so. We had been seeking the free IRS service for seniors and didn't realize the United Way was intended for lower income (even though our retirement income is well below the cap, our intent had been to seek help for seniors). Nevertheless, the manager and everyone at United Way were very nice and very helpful.
This organization has been doing a great job with redefining their work to support young children and their families in unique and thoughtful ways. A+!
So my fiancé goes to get her taxes done on 4/9. On 4/11 she decides to have another party complete them so she attempts to get them back. She is told no and they are already prepared and will file an extension if need be pending a document. The deadline is today 4/17. No one has returned a phone call, an email...nothing after 6 or 7 attempts at reaching them to obtain a status as to what is going on. Is this place for real??? This has to be fraud? Refusing to give back personal tax docs and then not having the decency to get back to someone after refusing and saying your taking care of it!!!! HORRIBLE
