I joined the Board of the United Way of Cass County a month before the coronavirus pandemic struck. The United Way's flexibility and willingness to adapt to the dire conditions many of our supported organizations were suddenly facing has been inspiring. As a Board of Directors, we
"put ourselves in other's shoes" to understand the unique problems of each organization in delivering services and raising funds. We proactively reached out to each organization, and the resulting conversations led us to allow organizations to use United Way funds to meet emergent, unexpected needs.
The United Way of Cass County serves as a catalyst for change for our community. Not only does this organization set out to raise funds for local programs, but the staff at UWCC go above and beyond to listen, have tough conversations, and drive the change we need in Cass County.
As a current board member, I have seen first hand the dedication that goes in to every decision, every dollar raised, every program implemented, and every person touched by the work of UWCC.
I first joined the work of UWCC as an intern and have spent the last 11 years as a proud volunteer and donor for this great community leader. Cass County is better because of our local United Way.
The United Way of Cass County (UWCC) not only serves the people in our community, but does so in a way that demonstrates true stewardship of donor dollars. As they work to meet the needs in Cass County, UWCC tirelessly educates others about what our community needs and how we can create true, lasting change through its funded programs and local impact work. With such a small staff, UWCC is leading the way in our county for impactful work in the areas of education, financial stability, and health. UWCC does more than just raise funds, it raises the quality of life in Cass County.
United Way of Cass County is valuable resource for our community. They do the necessary and difficult work to connect resources with worthy partner agencies. They're doing the work and research to impact our community in the areas of health, education and financial stability.
United Way of Cass County truly embodies what it means to Live United. Bringing together our community volunteers and resources to provide for the health, education and financial stability of our community and all those who live, work, and play here. United Way partners with and supports organizations like our local back pack programs, YMCA, and food pantries to make the biggest impact. United Way of Cass County does the research to find the ever changing needs in our community and continues to work to find ways to address those needs. Cass County is lucky to have the leadership and organization of United Way of Cass County.
The director and staff are wonderful, hard working, and organized. They go above and beyond to maximize the needs of the communities of Cass County. In 2020, the United Way has really stepped up for the community in the time of need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Each year the United Way partners with several agencies thru programs that involves education, financial stability, and health. If you could volunteer any way please let the United Way know.
I love United Way of Cass County! They are so great at working alongside those who are serving the community. Their overall encouragement and financial support for programs is outstanding.
The United Way supports many great causes in our community and I am proud to be a donor and volunteer!
I've worked with United Way of Cass County for many years and can sincerely vouch that they care about Cass County and the people who live there. They focus on consistently increasing resources and making in advances in Education, Financial Stability and Health and have outcomes to prove it. I'm an annual donor and give my money happily and confidently.
I had an emergency situation that required my needing counciling for my family right away and United Way was able to get the necessary referral and hep make the appointment for my family. It was a very serious matter and without the help of United Way, it would have had a bad ending for my family. This is a reason that I help the United Way as often as possible.
The United Way of Cass County has been a wonderful organization to work with. The staff are always available, very easy to work with, and provide some of the best service/assistance here in my community. The services they provide for our community has been nothing but a blessing, a non-profit that’s a blessing for sure. Highly recommended!
My husband and I are 30+ year donors to the Cass County United Way because we like knowing that the money we donate stays in Cass County and helps those in need in our own county. There are several programs that that Cass County United Way supports that we believe in, such as the Reading Railroad, the backpack program, and the Cass County Family Y. We have also participated in Live United Day for several years, and there have been some outstanding projects for our community completed. It is very satisfying to see so many people in our community come together on that day to work on projects. We truly believe in the mission of the United Way of Cass County!
The United Way of Cass County is truly community oriented and works hard to serve the people of the community. Volunteers are numerous due to the efforts of the staff and board members.
One program that I am very proud of, is the local Reading Railroad that works with volunteers to read to children in the schools but also give out books to the children. Book boxes have been established around the county where children can open the box and take a book to read. When they are done they are encouraged to return the book and take another. This has been very successful program. The education of our youth is a primary road to their success in the future and the creation of future community leaders. Various fundraisers are done to keep this program functioning.
Recently a Born Learning Trail was established at a local park which give children and parents suggested activities to create family interaction. As they walk the trail there are different signs and paintings to interact as a family.
Live United Day is another major community project that is done each year in the fall. This is where volunteers from all walks of life and local companies give 1 day to work on a project in the county. Some local companies reward their top United Way donors by offering them the chance to volunteer and pay the employee for that day. The projects are submitted to the United Way for review and based on the level of helping the people within the community they could be selected for the Live United Day. The projects have been from simple assistance projects to major construction projects but all have a major effect on the lives of people in need. The majority of the volunteers tell us they feel awesome after the end of the day and return each year to volunteer. Last year there was close to 400 volunteers on various projects.
Recently with the effects of COVID-19 on people in the community the United Way staff and volunteers have been working with local restaurants to provide meals to persons every week. Families are provided a income and family size survey and based on the completed survey they are allowed to receive a number of free meals.
Even though I serve as a board member, I personally volunteer for as many projects as possible because I believe in the efforts of this United Way and the effects on our community. The photo attached is of volunteers working to paint a wall at a local homeless shelter during the 2016 Live United Day. Even though it was very hot that day they felt great for the chance to serve that day and what they accomplished.
This is how you as a person make a community a better place to live and learn to appreciate what you have in life. The United Way of Cass County is a major avenue for volunteers to meet that goal.
I volunteer to read to first-graders once a month, as part of United Way's Reading Railroad program. I enjoy it as much as the kids do, if not more! It takes very little of my time, but potentially impacts many young minds. I feel like I am contributing to our community, and having fun at the same time.
United Way of Cass County is a great resource for this community. Many people call asking for help, UWCC goes out of their way to find the help for these people. UWCC also has many opportunities for the community to volunteer to help many in need. Live United Day is an awesome experience to help Cass County in many ways.
The United Way of Cass County inspires people to touch others in so many ways! One experience I will never forget is a day that Food Finders was in town. Learning and seeing first hand how food insecurities are impacting the adults and children of our community was life changing. It was such a blessing to know that our local United Way is working to meet those needs through organizations like Food Finders, the local school back pack programs and the Salvation Army.
Another experience I cherish with the UWCC is the annual Live United Day! It is awesome to see our community come together to help, serve and complete projects for each other! For many years, Fairview Elementary has had the honor to be recipients of different Live United project from extensive landscaping enhancements to receiving interactive painted playground games! This year our students were able to give back by collecting supplies and putting together care packages for others! The students learned so much about giving back to our community and the importance of Living United!
United Way of Cass County truly cares about the community and goes above and beyond to make a difference. Begindergarten is one of the many programs Cass County has a result of United Way. This program is for children entering kindergarten in the fall. Kiddos who are invited to attend Begindergarten, spend 6 weeks in the summer working on basic kindergarten readiness skills. The goal of the program is to better prepare our kids in Cass County to be successful. Thanks to United Way of Cass County our kiddos are beginning kindergarten with the basic skills needed to succeed.
The United Way is a great asset to Cass County. My experience with United Way has really opened my eyes to all the great things the United Way helps organize for Cass County including: Reading Railroad, programs with the YMCA, Salvation Army, Backpack Programs and many more. United Way is the bridge between needs and resources/ solutions. I have met some great people through volunteering and serving, while making our community a better place to live.
United Way of Cass County has been an inspiration to me. The attitude has always been positive and I have found a home in terms of being able to use my passion for working with children through Reading Railroad. I live in Lafayette but decided to volunteer and donate here because of the impact United Way has on Cass County. My interactions have always been very positive! It has enriched my life and I truly feel like I'm making a difference.
I believe in the United Way of Cass County because I have seen first hand how the United Way effects our community. I have volunteered for United Way actively for the past 5 years and I will continue to volunteer my time with the United Way because without the support of the United Way throughout this community then we would not be in the place we are today.
Thank You Very Much United Way of Cass County and all that you do!
United Way Thanks YOU for volunteering!
United Way is a great resource to all the residents in Cass County. I first got involved with United Way by attending a Reading Railroad event with my children years ago when then were younger. I was so impressed with what they were doing to promote reading that I became a volunteer. I read to classes at Lewis Cass High School for many years. Years later I became a board member. Little did I know at the time what all United Way did for our community or the organizations it funded. United Way has or currently does fund the following programs: American Red Cross, Boys Scouts, Cass County YMCA, Food Finders Food Bank, Girl Scouts, The Backpack Program, Reading Railroad, Salvation Army, Peak Community Services, Cass County Council on Aging and many more. As a board member I have seen the hard work that goes into raising money to support these valuable programs and the affect it has directly within our community. We are blessed to live in a town that the community care so much to help others.
Thank you so much for all you do for United Way of Cass County!
I started working with our local United Way many years ago on the Community Investment Committee - which really taught me how impactful the UW is in our area. Having a chance to work directly with member agencies and seeing the good they are able to accomplish with the dollars allocated to them and their projects was extremely satisfying. Since then I have also participated as a board member and on the annual campaigns. I think once someone spends the time to understand just what United Way is doing the giving of time and $$ becomes so easy.
Thank you for all you do for our agency!
I have had the pleasure of being involved with United Way of Cass County for many years as a donor, volunteer and Board Member. I continue to be inspired by the way this non-profit organization makes an impact in our community by supporting programs that help children succeed in school, promote independence and self-sufficiency as well as help strengthen and support families. The United Way staff have a passion for serving the county and creating holistic solutions to complicated issues. It is such a privilege to support and volunteer alongside people who are so committed to serving Cass County!
Thanks for all you do for our organization!
The United Way of Cass County has been the best way to reach the needs of our community. The three pillars of Education, Financial Stability, and Health all speak to strengthening our community and helping those who need it. I am proud to be a financial supporter and volunteer with this community asset. Arden Cramer.
Thank you for everything you do for our organization!
I have been involved with United Way for over 30 years as a volunteer, campaign coordinator at my workplace, committee chairperson, Live United day participant, and Board Member. The United Way of Cass County does great things in our community. One of the projects that our United Way supports is the backpack program. When this program first began, I thought to myself, how do these kids not stand out, or feel ashamed when they are carrying home a backpack full of food every Friday which shows the other students that they are less fortunate than some of their peers. Then, during one of our campaign rallies, there was a student and his grandmother who came to speak. The student, who was in 3rd grade said that he loved getting his backpack full of food each week because he and his 3 siblings lived with his grandmother and he felt bad because he knew she was struggling to provide enough for all of them. He said when he received his backpack full of food each Friday, they have some food for the weekend, and he feels like he is helping his family out. There was no shame, as I thought these kids might feel. Instead, he was proud that he was helping his family out. I love this program and all of the other programs and agencies that my contributions and my United Way help support!
Thank you for all of your work with our organization!
United Way of Cass County is a great organization with the mission to help as many persons in the community as possible. While the UW has several programs that serve the Cass County area, I am especially proud of the Reading Railroad where books are given to children and volunteers read to children in the schools. They have also sponsored a "Pins for Kids" bowling day where teams participate to generate funds for the Reading Railroad program and other programs geared towards children.
LIve United Day is another special event that the entire community comes together under the guidance of the UW staff to perform special projects throughout the county to non-profit organizations and individuals in need. Local businesses involved in UW will grant employees time off to volunteer for this activities. People spend the day working on several projects and working as a team. The volunteers often say they feel like they get more back than what they gave for the day.
Thank you for volunteering for United Way of Cass County!
