Mission: United way of abilene improves lives by leveraging the intellectual, organizational, institutional, financial, faith-based, and personal resources of its local communities to promote the health, education, and financial stability of every person in west central texas. United way of abilene's volunteer community investment review team identifies the greatest needs of local citizens in areas of health, education, and financial stability and recommends investment funding allocations for locally evaluated programs that address those needs.
Programs: $1,293,894 in grant allocations were committed to 28 non-profit organizations in our service area. These non-profit organizations represent partner agencies and initiatives that support priority issues determined by committees of local volunteers representing the citizens of west central texas. These priority issues are designed to ensure that basic needs are met, youth graduate from high school ready to work or pursue higher education, seniors live independently, families are self-sufficient, and neighborhoods are safe and family friendly.
community impact programs provide the 19 counties of west central texas with information and referral services and emergency assistance for basic needs, such as shelter and utilities. These programs paid $118,224 in direct benefits for emergency assistance and managed thousands of calls for information and referral services.
