Causes: Alumni Associations, Education
Mission: The foundation shall exist to serve, assist and perpetuate the academy, its regiment of midshipmen, faculty, staff, and alumni. The foundation supports the academy's mission of educating and graduating merchant marine officers who will become leaders in the commercial and defense transportation services of the united states. The foundation provides financial support for charitable, scientific and educational purposes by raising and distributing funds, some of which will be maintained in an endowment. The foundation also fosters and encourages the development of the academy to meet the future transportation needs of the united states, and enhances the prestige thereof by acquisition, preservation, and dissemination of information pertaining to their history, activities, methods and objectives.
Programs: Midshipmen and academy activities - support to academy (usmma) midshipmen programs and activities. Enhance the education experience of 1,050 midshipmen by providing financial support to 23 teams, and 38 clubs. Promote academic and athletic excellence by sponsoring 63 awards and scholarships.
alumni activities - support to alumni services and alumni fundraising events for the benefit of the usmma. Support alumni activities by sponsoring 12 golf tournaments a year, homecoming events, and sponsoring 50 alumni awards.
publications - support to communications ( publications & website ) for alumni, parents, and midshipmen. Publish the kings pointer magazine four times a year with a circulation of 17,600. Publish the scuttlebut newsletter by e-mail twice a month to 7,000 alumni.
job placement-career and internship services support to midshipmen, recent graduates in compliance of obligation and alumni.
