I was introduce to United Spay Alliance through Community Cat Podcast's low-cost trainings about Trap-Neuter-Return programs for community cats. I attended USP's "how to apply for a spay-neuter grant from us" webinar, and was very impressed not only with their financial generosity but also with their understanding of how to help small rescues function better and grow into real sustainability. I also attended a webinar featuring Dr. Lisa Warner, who has figured out how to prevent "economic euthanasia" through a collaborative model between a non-profit rescue and adoption service and a for-profit surgical center modeled on human out-patient surgery clinics. USP is a GREAT NONPROFIT!
Working with United Spay Alliance has been an incredibly positive experience for our clinics. Their expertise and guidance enabled us to host two successful surgical training labs. It has been rewarding to collaborate with a team dedicated to offering accessible, hands on trainings for veterinarians and expanding access to high quality spay/neuter services.
The United Spay Alliance is a national animal welfare organization dedicated exclusively to promoting affordable, accessible, and timely spay/neuter services as the solution to the crisis of cat and dog homelessness. I have been on a Task Force that they convened, the Vet Shortage Task Force, to address the ongoing challenges faced by the veterinary community regarding the shortage of spay/neuter veterinarians specifically, and in the profession generally. Our goal is a multifaceted approach to increase spay/neuter resources in our communities.
The United Spay Alliance does this on a number of fronts. First and foremost, they developed the “Feline Fix by Five” initiative in order to promote sterilization of cats before they can get pregnant. One of the initiatives of the Vet Shortage Task Force has been to develop a spay/neuter referral directory in order to raise awareness of resources available for access to veterinary care. Another initiative is hosting High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) training clinics, in which I have participated as a trainer. The goal of these training clinics is to increase the availability of HQHVSN surgeons to enhance spay/neuter capacity at the community level.
The United Spay Alliance works tirelessly to promote affordable, accessible spay/neuter services as a solution to the problem of dog and cat homelessness. They are a great resource for veterinarians and pet owners looking for more information on spay/neuter, and I am proud to be associated with them on the Vet Shortage Task Force.

I am a veterinarian who is a HQHVSN (High Quality, High Volume Spay/Neuter) surgeon at TLC PetSnip, Inc. in Lakeland, FL, having retired as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Service Head of Shelter Medicine at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, where I used to train veterinary students in HQHVSN surgical techniques. My whole career has been dedicated to animal population control. Having been involved with the United Spay Alliance on its Veterinary Shortage Task Force, I have come to know the devoted people involved with the organization, and recognize their dedication to promoting affordable, accessible spay/neuter services. It has been estimated that there is a backlog of 2.7 million sterilization surgeries in the United States due to the slowdown as a result of the pandemic. I appreciate the effort that the United Spay Alliance is putting forth to help reduce that number for dog and cat owners in our country, and I am pleased to offer a strong review of this great non-profit.

United Spay Alliance is wonderful to work with! Like so many areas of the country, we're struggling with spay/neuter accessibility and the team at United Spay Alliance has helped us come up with a practical approach to increasing capacity (and quality) of spays. The initial training they did in Georgia was really well received and when I asked for a dog training option they immediately began working on it! I could not be happier with the services and support they provide.
United Spay Alliance is doing such important work by sponsoring training for veterinarians to learn to do high-quality-high-volume-spay-neuter techniques with expertise and confidence. Such an important step towards reducing the number of homeless pets! If you want to expand these efforts in your area, USA would be a great resource for you to pursue. Mary-Elizabeth Ellard, DVM, MS
United Spay Alliance has been an amazing partner to work with. They have helped DeKalb County, GA to develop High Quality High Volume Spay Neuter training programs for our local veterinarians and are working with us to organize a "Spayathon" in an underserved area. They are helping our County reimagine the role of our local government in addressing our pet overpopulation issue. Bri has been so helpful and knowledgeable and we could not have done it without her guidance and leadership!!
United Spay Alliance (USA) is a phenomenal and high impact organization that targets the root causes of pet overpopulation. I attended USA's fall conference in 2023 and learned about their valuable resources, expertise, and innovative, strategic programs. Since then, my organization and others collaborated with USA to conduct a HQHVSN surgical training (wet lab) in feline spays for our local veterinarians as part of USA's national pilot program. The USA administrator for the training labs, Brianna Lovell Myers, did a fabulous job of leading us through the planning, marketing, and registration. The veterinarians who received the training gave the training the highest possible marks. Because the training was such a success, we are now planning a HQHVSN wet lab for canine spays with USA in 2025. I can't thank this organization enough for all the guidance they've provided to help us change the dire statistics of pet overpopulation in Georgia!
United Spay Alliance is an incredible resource for addressing the overpopulation of cats and dogs on a state by state basis. They work on helping each state identify their individual spay/neuter issues and look for solutions. They work from the ground up teaching individuals how to find surgical resources in their state and how to set up a network of people and website to address the issues. This can be a daunting task but United Spay Alliance is there to help every step of the way.
Esther Mechler and United Spay Alliance have been supporting, encouraging, and mentoring small grass roots organizations for decades! USA is a leader in animal welfare, especially in supporting "boots on the ground" groups who are the first line of defense against animal overpopulation and suffering. We've been able to get thousands of cats fixed here in rural Mississippi with USA's support and guidance; these are cats who would likely never see a vet in their lives otherwise. While big multimillion dollar animal welfare groups almost certainly do good work, USA gets things done by supporting and mentoring those who toil on the front lines; these are often all volunteer groups with limited resources. USA's support comes from grants and educational opportunities and networking, all orchestrated by USA. USA is responsive and always up to date on best practices in animal welfare and wellbeing. USA far exceeds my expectations for what a GREAT nonprofit should be!
United Spay Alliance is the organization to support for animal welfare! They work tirelessly to promote spay/neuter as the solution to combat overpopulation. Esther Mechler has helped so many groups and individuals in the spay/neuter community. When the task becomes difficult, she knows what to say to inspire me to keep helping the cats and owners in my community.. The entire team at USA is professional and dedicated to their mission. I am a part of their State Leader network. and have attended several USA conferences and webinars. Homeless Animals Relief Project was fortunate to receive grants from Community Cats Podcast. There are numerous resources on their website to help groups and individuals that want to learn about spay/neuter programs and locations for affordable services. If you want to help animals in communities across the country, United Spay Alliance is the nonprofit to support financially. Team up with United Spay Alliance and your spay/neuter organization will be "empowered" and "inspired"!

United Spay Alliance has been instrumental in helping Homeless Animals Relief Project (HARP) reach 754 cats spayed/neutered this year! This is a record number for our small grass-roots spay/neuter program! The encouragement, educational opportunities, networking, and resources available have been so valuable to me as the new Director of HARP! Through my association with United Spay Alliance I have found grant opportunities and educational webinars and videos at Community Cats Podcast. I was also introduced to Feline Fix by Five, Marian's Dream and our state resources for spay/neuter information. These are all a wealth of information for safe and effective spay/neuter programs. Thank you United Spay Alliance for all you do for the cats and the organizations trying to make a difference in their communities!

I am president of Operation SPOT (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today), a dedicated AW organization based in St, Louis. We have been advocating for and then providing spay/neuter services for dogs and cats since 1995, In our early years, Esther Mechler was a mentor for our organization and we learned so much from her and from attending the many workshops and conferences that SPAYUSA organized and hosted. Recently we have become the Missouri state leader for United Spay Alliance. Our participation in this amazing nationwide effort to publicize all the resources available for affordable s/n procedures has given our residents greater opportunities to find help for their dogs and cats. In addition, the other leaders have proven a treasure of knowledge and experience as to what are best practices for our mutual goal to end pet overpopulation.
United Spay Alliance has been a phenomenal supporter and brain-trust to tap as we try to establish a Spay Neuter Fund in CA. USA provides much needed inspiration, thought-partnership and support to keep going when the road ahead feels hopeless. As Partners in Animal Care & Compassion we are grateful for the leadership role USA plays around the tried and true lifesaving mechanism of spay neuter. We are so honored to be in their light.
Pet Friendly Services is USA's State Leader for Indiana. The United Spay Alliance not only provides support for our state, they are also actively seeking solutions to increase spay/neuter capacity - and sharing this lifesaving information with states across the country.
The United Spay Alliance also hosts an annual conference, featuring experts from across the country and beyond!. Their collaborative work is key to saving so many lives by preventing unwanted litters.

Working alongside United Spay Alliance is truly motivating. As the USA representative for New York City, we understand the daily challenges that face animal rescue and animal welfare organizations across the country seeking affordable spay/neuter for their constituents. United Spay Alliance has proven to be a pivotal and effective leader in this space with its nationwide network for spay/neuter resources. We are honored to collaborate with USA and the dedicated members across the country who are moving mountains to provide education and access to affordable spay/neuter services in their communities. The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is proud to be associated with this vital organization!
Our spay/neuter group, Operation SPOT, is excited to collaborate closely with United Spay Alliance, having been designated as the Missouri State Leader. USA provides constant support, and countless resources are always at our fingertips. Collaboration is key and, again, we are beyond happy to have United Spay Alliance as a partnering ally.
United Spay Alliance has the best people to work with, has the best mission and helped me achieve my best results!
As a feral cat feeder, I can vouch for the effectiveness of this wonderful organization: United Spay Alliance They have up-to-date information on spay and neuter programs and clinics (in all 50 states) that are a vital resource to me and so many others. They work with thousands of committed veterinarians all over the country through their statewide networks and promote the newest techniques of spaying cats and dogs before they go into heat (early age spay/neuter that prevents unplanned litters.) I am confident that every one of their donor dollars is used appropriately and stretched to the limits. I am personally grateful to United Spay Alliance.
In the current state of animal welfare, organizations can find themselves pulled in many different directions in an attempt to address a multitude of meaningful issues. I appreciate that United Spay Alliance has navigated this challenge by remaining a consistent, unwavering voice for spay/neuter. It is a go-to resource!
United Spay Alliance is a trusted source for information and a much-needed voice to promote the importance of spaying or neutering of companion animals before adoption. Further, their project, Feline Fix by Five, is helping to reduce the overpopulation of cats and kittens by preventing the birth of unwanted litters of kittens and, therefore, also reducing the number of kittens euthanized every year.
The message is clear: spay/neuter saves lives. This amazing organization helps spread this message to increase awareness and promote education to help both owned and shelter animals. Thank you for all you do!
We have a crisis in homeless dogs and cats and shelters overflowing. Organizations such as United Spay Alliance are of utmost importance to move towards ending these challenges.
United Spay Alliance is a fantastic organization! They are not only focused on empowering communities to get involved but supporting the veterinary industry during this critical stage in the industry. We appreciate you and support the cause.
Thank you to the United Spay Alliance for keeping s/n access available to as many people as possible.
I want to thank Esther Mechler for helping me find a location near to my house that could neuter my cat. She called me back on a Sunday afternoon. How many people would do that, to help someone out? Esther gave me the information I needed. What a great help she was to me. We need more spay and neuter locations throughout the United States, like United Spay Alliance. Thank you!!!
United Spay Alliance is a wonderful organization that does terrific work on their own and helps smaller nonprofits like ours do our work, too! Animal welfare is hard work and it faces many serious challenges that USpA is helping to address. Among the most critical are pet overpopulation and the desperate need to spay/neuter more companion animals, and the lack of access to care many rural and less affluent communities face as a result of a veterinary shortage that is becoming worse every year. Making A Difference Now (MADN) is honored to work with USpA and grateful for the support and expertise they provide us and for their heroic efforts to increase access to affordable spay/neuter services for all.
United Spay Alliance is at the forefront of animal welfare in addressing overpopulation of companion animals (cats and dogs). They are a great resource to the "down in the trenches" non profits with taking care of the higher level issues, researching, disseminating information to us, so we don't have to do it. Their material is focused and extremely helpful in our effort to reduce companion animal overpopulation.
United Spay Alliance is a valuable resource to help those who are working to get spay/neuter out to the public. Spay/neuter isn't very thrilling sounding but it works so having a resource like USA is important. Just for an example, our group worked to stabilize a feral cat colony in Maine that had 50 cats. That colony with spay/neuter over the years has dwindled to three cats. In short, spay/neuter work to prevent suffering.
The United Spay Alliance, is one of the best resources for find information about anything and everything Spay/Neuter related and more. This organization has representatives in almost every state, this allows them to poll resources and information locally. Having the ability to reach out to local reps about the happenings in their State or area is vital in understanding the problems Spay/Neuter operations face and help direct us all in finding a solution that works for our local needs.

The United Spay Alliance it a great resource for the many organization in the animals welfare industry. The Alliance provides meaningful information and support to countless organizations that promote Spaying and Neutering nationwide. They also provide feedback to those same organizations on how to best navigate all aspects of running a private, non-profit, state, or local municipality spay/neuter clinic. The also help with oversite on the members websites and data bases, which many of us in the field know can be very time consuming. Esther Mechler the groups founder and mentor has been an asset that we can not be thankful enough for as she inspires us to do more.
They are an amazing organization who has been advocating for their "Fix by Five" program to get kittens spayed and neutered by five months. This organization is doing great work at reducing cat overpopulation.
United Spay Alliance is guided by a board of key pioneers of this field who have been so instrumental in the achievements made with spay/neuter to date. Esther Mechler, Peter Marsh and Marvin Mackie have collectively engineered strategic deployment of sterilization programs, and Stacy is a critical key player in professionalizing community cat programs. United Spay Alliance is championing access to sterilization in this country at a time when many national funding organizations are prematurely de-emphasizing it. As someone that works on advancing research on non-surgical alternatives to suppress dog and cat fertility, it is critical that the service providers remain accessible and affordable to serve now as well as add new tools to their portfolio. As someone involved in a 5 county low-cost spay- neuter program I see the pent up demand for sterilization missed during covid shutdowns. I greatly appreciate United Spay Alliance's focus on restoring services across the nation and am pleased to offer this strong review for the non-profit.
United Spay Alliance is a leader in animal welfare! They maintain a nationwide spay/neuter directory to connect more people and pets to spay/neuter services and also lead the Feline Fix by Five campaign. Amazing Organization
Esther Mechler and United Spay Alliance guided us in creating our state program to ensure information is available to those needed spay/neuter services. The organization has worked tirelessy to build a program in each state to help address the issue of animal overpopulation by making spay/neuter information accessible. With the tools, information, and network of other spay/neuter professionals, we were able to get our website up and running, and establish our program to subsidize surgeries for those who need it most.
I head up a small animal rescue in California and am interested in getting legislation passed to provide adequate and ongoing funding for no to low cost spay/neuter in our state. Having never worked on legislation before I was not sure where to begin. I came across United Spay Alliance's website and basically found a playbook on exactly what to do, with real world examples. I could quickly look to see if anyone else in my state was working on this (no) and even better, when I left a message asking for help I got a return call the next day sharing a combination of moral support, advice and super helpful connections. If we succeed in passing this legislation, it will be in large part because of the support from United Spay Alliance. If we're successful, this will have a huge lifesaving impact in CA.

United Spay Alliance has taken on an incredible leadership role by joining spay and neuter program leaders in each state who collaborate in order to reach even more pets that need assistance. Every state is different but our goals are all the same and these programs are vital if we are to help end the suffering of our beloved animal friends.
The dedicated team at United Spay Alliance is working to create a nationwide network for spay/neuter. Through leadership and collaboration, they are developing relationships state by state in order to move this life-saving movement forward on the national stage. We are thrilled to collaborate with USA and help more Wyoming families and animals access affordable spay/neuter services. Their educational programs are also fantastic. If you have the opportunity to join one of their conferences, I would highly recommend it! Great organizaiton!
United Spay Alliance provides tools and resources for spay/neuter organizations around the country to do their best work, while also boosting the visibility of spay/neuter on a national level.
Community Cats Podcast has had the pleasure of working with Esther Mechler, and now the United Spay Alliance for several years. In February 2021, in honor of World Spay Day and Feline Fix by Five month, we co-hosted an online, 3-day conference called the United Spay Alliance Online Conference. The event was a huge success, providing critical information and conversations around the subjects of spay/neuter and community outreach around the country. We look forward to joining forces again in 2022 to keep the conversation going.
Esther has been a leader in spay/neuter advocacy for decades. Her work with SPAY/USA and Marian's Dream, and now United Spay Alliance has helped to advance affordable and accessible spay/neuter services for cats, dogs, and the people who care for them. The innovative Feline Fix by Five campaign, a program of Marian's Dream and United Spay Alliance, continues to challenge the outdated belief that cats and kittens must be six months or older before they are spayed or neutered by raising awareness for early age spay/neuter and its benefits, and recruiting more veterinarians and clinics to the cause. We can't wait to see where United Spay Alliance will take us next!
Spay/neuter initiatives have taken a back seat in recent years among the national animal welfare organizations, but the need is still so great. Access to affordable and timely spay/neuter has been threatened by the pandemic and a shortage of veterinarians, and it's time for a renewed focus on such an important component of ending animal overpopulation.
Esther and her board have never lost sight of the the role spay/neuter plays in ending euthanasia of companion animals, keeping pets in their homes, and promoting the human-animal bond. We need groups like United Spay Alliance as much now as any time in the last decade; they're doing great work.
Over many years starting in the late 90s we have been fortunate enough to work with Esther Mechler – and the most recent organization created in 2015, United Spay Alliance.
Many people and pets have benefited from Esther‘s long years dedicated to solving pet overpopulation by focusing on the solution rather than the problem, Spay/Neuter rather than Rescue!
Accordingly Esther’s encouragement and support and knowledge of “How To” has helped us for years grow the following organizations from the seeds of change!
-Spay Mexico, -Spay Peru, -Spay Sonora, -Spay El Salvador, -Spay Global
In process:
-Spay Chile, -Spay Bolivia, -Spay Brazil
There are many more amazing people and working groups that Esther has championed into existence.
We finally evolved to solving pet overpopulation with spay/neuter “One Pet at a Time!” and
to creating a certified Spay/Neuter Training Course to teach “One Vet at a Time!”
I am pleased to write about United Spay Alliance which has already made such a huge footprint.
Respectfully,
