I am a volunteer for the USO & let me tell you, I feel so truly appreciated by every single person (active, retired & family member) that walk in the door. They are so very very grateful for the USO, I hear it all the time, thank you, thank, thank you for being here, for everything you do.
I volunteer on days the kids ship out to bootcamp (airport center) I greet them on the sidewalk, take them to get their boarding passes, then take them to the USO center until its time to board the plane. They call me "grandma Linda" and that's exactly how I act, loving on them before they leave, weather that be sitting & chatting, covering them up with a blanket to making sure they eat!! When it's time to board the plane I take them right to the gate & every single one of them gets a hug from "grandma" before they leave. I send them off with love, let them know we are here for them & how much I truly appreciate their Service & Sacrifice. It is my Honor to volunteer for the USO.
Please share with everyone you know, the USO really does matter & make a difference.
My name is Dan Skopp. I retired from the Air Force after 39 years. During my military career I have been to many USO's. All the the Volunteers at the USO's that I visited were very helpful and willing to "go that extra mile to help the Military. I know because now I am a Volunteer at the USO at the Airport Center in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I am now on "the other side of the fence" and enjoy meeting and greeting my military brothers and sisters!!!! Yes, I still run into people that I know while I was in the Military!! I never say "goodbye" just "see ya later" cause I know that I will run into them again down the road!!!
The USO was a life saver when my son missed his flight to report to his FIRST duty station in ALASKA. The Volunteer on staff helped him book a new flight, gave him a phone card to call the reporting desk in Alaska, and made sure he got some snacks and a beverage. You guys are the ROCK our Military relies on and that means I do not not have to worry.
You got their back so I can relax and just enjoy my son. THANKS SO MUCH! - A Wisconsin Coastguard Mom.
As an Active Duty military service member, I have used the USO locations during my travels with work and personal life. Often being stationed far away from home, the USO offers a sanctuary to get away from the stresses of travel. They provide a friendly face and positive attitudes from all volunteers that can be just what a person needs. Being able to relax in a comfy chair, have a snack and call home for even just a few minutes can be priceless. That is what motivated me to become a USO volunteer in my free time. Thank you to the volunteers and staff that make this organization what it is and thank you to other service members for your selfless service.
