Mission: United neighborhood organization (uno) leads the transformation of the hispanic community toward an educated, powerful and prosperous citizenry by engaging and challenging it to redefine its potential and its legacy in metropolitan chicago and the united states of america.
Programs: Small accessible repairs for seniors:uno participates in the small accessible repairs for seniors program (sarfs). This program provides safety, security and accessibility improvements at no cost to qualifying low income senior citizens and enables them to remain in their homes.
community services programs:uno provides janitorial and maintenance services. These services are provided by a primarily hispanic workforce for the development of the workers as well as the accompanying community's businesses. In addition, uno holds various community service events to raise money and awareness.
leadership training:uno has always created new avenues of public leadership; engaging latinos toward civic action. The metropolitan leadership institute (mli) and corporate leadership institute (cli) created and managed by uno provides individuals with a greater appreciation for ambiguities and nuances of the public arena and the challenges of public life. Our job is to help new leaders generate results rather than frustration; to keep them from becoming disillusioned by the public decision-making process, or worse, disengaged from it altogether. The themes that are central to the mli and cli programs - promoting civic action, inspiring new leaders, and provoking sound public dialogue - are not new to uno. They are part of our history and our legacy as a community organization.
