Mission: Uncf is building a pathway of educational support from k-12 through college and career. The scope, breadth, depth and variety of work uncf does extends to all three areas of its concentration 1) our 37 member (hbcus) historically black college & universities 2) our scholarship and student professional development programs and 3) our advocacy work which includes both our advocacy for improved k-12 education and our leadership in the policy arena. Our member hbcus are known for their achievements in undergraduate education, but they also have impressive results in research that benefits their states, regions, the country and the world. Work of large scholarships and programs established by benefactors have also been impactful. This includes the $48 million uncf fund ii stem scholars program which supports the education of 500 of the countrys brightest and most impressive stem students of color, and the $50 million lilly endowment career pathways initiative, a program that invests in the

I wouldn't have recieved my college degree without the support of UNCF. They changed my life personally and having interacted with some of their professionals, I can testify that they are financially responsible and dedicated to their mission.
I used to be a donor to UNCf. But I just looked at the compensation of Lomax and I am outraged. Nothing justifies. Anything more than 200K is outlandish and unjustified. With that saving they could educate 40 or 50 college kids, period. I will stop donating till they do somehting about the compensation.
Quite outrageous, but typical, that this Non-Profit, with annual revenues of over $200 million, gave their employees a 3% pay raise despite their annual revenues DECLINING by 17.5% from 2008 to 2009, and they still managed an average employee salary of over $75,000 per year- almost DOUBLE the median American household income. What a gesture to give yourself a 3% pay raise when so many Americans lost their jobs, or got no pay raise, during that period. Wow, now that's charity- pay yourself first, right? How hypocritical, arrogant, and greedy of this Non-Profit to abuse their tax exempt status and use tax payer subsidy to enrich themselves.. The IRS should revoke the tax exmempt Non-Profit status of the UNCF, as it seems to only exist for the primary benefit of the Non-Profit employees themselves.
Professional with expertise in this field
As a UNCF member school alum and professional in the field, I am impressed with the fact that UNCF supports students from all walks of life. Not only does it support African American students, but other minority students and any student attending UNCF schools. In addition, some of their scholarship programs support majority students. The key is educating young people and preparing them for the global workplace
