Mission: The target area of Wards 6, 7, and 8 in the southeast quadrant of Washingoton, DC has an out-of-wedlock birthrate of 83.7 %. It is also estimated that one in twenty adults in Washington DC is infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Recognizing that a commitment to abstinence before marriage is the only sure method of preventing unwanted pregnancy, infection with sexually transmitted diseases and associated negative emotional outcomes, the objective of ULTRA Teen Choice is to help high-risk teens prepare for successful outcomes in their lives by adopting a sexually abstinent and drug-free lifestyle.
Programs: ULTRA Teen Choice has successfully implemented a program of classroom education, peer counseling, and Service Clubs that promote the physical, emotional and social benefits of abstinence before marriage. The Program teaches the consequences of teen sexual activity and the skills necessary to abstain, which are reinforced by additional positive youth development activities.
