This is a well-run shelter that lovingly cares for a variety of animals who are in need of a home. The shelter is clean and the animals are well-cared for. They have an excellent facility for cats, which allows them to free-roam and also to have some time outside in an enclosure. The shelter receives so many cats, they recently opened a second room. They are very involved in the community and succeed in finding animals homes due to their endless outreach. This is a wonderful shelter to support financially or otherwise!
As a volunteer here I have to say I have never seen such a loving establishment for all the animals, I myself got my cat here and he is an angel, this place is a pillar of our community and has brought more love into peoples hearts and homes than can fit into a review. Looking forward to many more great years!
I have been a volunteer more than 3 yrs. My experience is that all the volunteers and employees are very dedicated to the animals The shelter is kept immaculate. I presently take care of the rodents and give one on one attention when possible. The dogs are very appreciative of the treats I give them and many will actually sit when I ask them. If I had to bring an animal to a shelter, this would be the one I'd choose.
I volunteer at the UCSPCA. You will not find a more dedicated group of people than the staff here at the shelter. It is comforting to know that when an animal is in need it will get the best care and love possible
I’m a long-time volunteer at the Ulster County SPCA and have worked alongside and seen firsthand the dedication and compassion of the staff and other volunteers. Animal rescue can be (and usually is) incredibly stressful, but can also be very rewarding work.
I adopted a formerly feral black cat from the shelter 7 years ago with whom I had been working for months with staff and volunteers to get him to be comfortable with people and other animals. I actually took him home thinking that he just may live his life hiding all the time, as sometimes happens with ferals. But within an hour of getting him home, he was already warming up and craving touch, and he’s been more than a friendly cat ever since. I attribute this sudden shift to the care, love and patience of the staff and the volunteer team that I’m so proud to be part of. Thanks for your time.
Wonderful CLEAN shelter. The staff and volunteers work very hard to keep the animals happy and very well cared for. I adopted a sweet pittie from them and volunteer. RIP King

The UCSPCA has one of the very few Pet Food Pantry in the Ulster County which serves anywhere from 120-500+ animals a month, keeping pets in their homes for families struggling (like the most of us now) who are not able to provide food for their pets. They provide temporary and permanent solutions to people’s real and true pet problems. Calling in or messaging the UCSPCA is a great start for anyone looking for a sense of direction for anything animal related. Aside from all of the life saving work they do, pet ownership support is what they do best too!
I have been a volunteer in many different capacities for more than 25 years…when I started SPCA was still a “a kill shelter” and , with “help” helped sneak out a blind kitty scheduled for euthanasia…I kept her and she was a very sweet soul. More recently I adopted my current and last pups from the SPCA and continue to volunteer with the cats. I am a monthly donor and consider the UCSPCA my favorite place to which to donate.

We adopted our Zoey from Ulster County SPCA. Their care for all of the animals, and for us as adopters, was great. Their team was great to work with. I have, and will continue, to support this great organization that cares so much for our furry friends and our community.
We adopted our dog (Angel now Cali) through UCSPCA. The process was easier than I thought it would be and we got a great dog. Very happy with our adoption process.
This organization of staff, volunteers and board members are hands down top notch. Integrity, love and compassion are first and foremost.Open hearts and minds. So fortunate to have in our community and county.
Clean, well-run and easy to adopt from. Their clinic recently spayed my puppy and I couldn't have been happier with the professionalism.
I got a senior cat through the Kingston SPCA that I saw a Facebook post for. I wasn’t looking for a cat, I didn’t really want a cat but I was drawn to her picture. Long story short, I adopted a senior cat that I absolutely love to pieces! Process to adopt was easy. I highly recommend them!
The Staff and Volunteers at UCSPCA are very dedicated and caring. They are a no kill shelter and work diligently to find a home for all the animals they shelter. Until that time, the animals are well cared for.
Volunteering for Ulster County SPCA has been a rewarding experience. It’s something I considered doing for a long time before just did it!!! And I’ve meet so so many people who are as passionate, MORE PASSIONATE, than I am about providing animal welfare and seeking adoptive homes for almost every type of animal. We are real people doing real work to provide a clean, safe environment while these beautiful cats, dogs, mice, gerbils, puppies, kittens, etc. seek foster and forever adoptive homes.
We got our dog, Dee, at this shelter and loved every minute we had with her! Great facility and helpful staff.
I volunteer at the Ulster County SPCA. It is a great caring and compassionate group of people that work there. They do a wonderful job meeting each animal special needs. The place is kept spotless and cages are cleaned every day. Every animal is giving special attention to keep them engaged, and to feel loved until they find their forever home. It is truly a very special place.
This is my girl Callie, with her purse, we adopted there. She is a pure joy and a source of constant amusement
My family fosters with the UC SPCA, and I have volunteered in the facility. So I have seen numerous times how seriously they take the good health and quality of life of all the animals they have in their care. They have strict procedures to keep each animal's living space clean and make sure each animal has the proper diet. The volunteers and staff treat the animals as their own, showing them love and attention while with them.
I started volunteering at the UCSPCA almost a year ago and it has made a tremendous impact on my life and my thoughts on animal welfare. This organization is a lifeline for the animals in their care as well as the community by providing necessary resources like spay/neuter clinics, rabies vaccinations, and hosting a community food pantry for local animals to help their families afford to keep them at home and out of the shelter. I am deeply impressed by the lengths that the staff and volunteers go to provide the love and care these animals need while they wait to go to their forever homes. The teamwork seen within the building rallies me to step up and learn more about how I as a volunteer and a member of the community can help their cause. I even adopted two cats from them this passed year and am incredibly grateful that the UCSPCA supported them and connected me to them.
Not long after I moved here from NYC my older cats passed on. I heard about the UCSPCA and adopted a cat there. Meeting the workers & volunteers, I came to learn about all they do in the area. I have supported them over the years & now have adopted another cat. The Humane Law division is great. Without national or county help they are amazing.
This is a reputable and well-managed SPCA which, in addition to providing temporary shelter and finding adoptive homes for homeless, abused and neglected animals, supports a humane enforcement officer to conduct investigations, rescue animals and work with law enforcement. They accomplish all this without any support from the local government or any national organization. Bravo!
UCSPCA is a very well run organization supported by a compassionate and dedicated Board of Directors, staff and volunteers. Definitely deserving of gratitude, praise and contributions for championing the health and welfare of our animal friends.

Ulster County SPCA has highly competent, caring and compassionate staff and volunteers who rescue, heal and prepare pets for forever homes. Operating with a modest budget, SPCA is deserving of high praise for the services they provide to the community in terms of enforcement, to the animals they nurture and to clients united with a loving pet. The fundraisers Ulster SPCA puts on throughout the year are very entertaining and productive too!
As a Board member of the Ulster County SPCA for the past few years, I am constantly amazed at how caring each and every person associated with this organization is. From Gina (our Executive Director) to the countless volunteers and everyone in between, I am proud to work with you! ROCK ON!
Great team of staff and volunteers that help keep this place going. Everyone values the lives of pets and the mission of the facility. Wonderful to see some many people coming together to help keep these animals safe, and try to find forever homes for them.
The UCSPCA is a wonderful efficient caring animal shelter. The staff, board, volunteers are the best. I have been involved for over 20 years have adopted many great pets.
The Ulster County SPCA is the most efficiently run animal shelter I have ever seen without any funding from the county or nationally. the Director is one of the most efficient people I’ve ever met and watches every penny and cares of the animals completely. I have adopted three animals from this shelter and are completely satisfied.
The board of directors and shelter director Gina work very hard to make a better life for those animals in need. They also have great volunteers and staff who work so hard to exercise the pets. Please support the shelter and help the animals. They are not state or federally funded.
All of my animals have been adopted from the Ulster County SPCA! My cat was rescued from a hoarding situation. My oldest dog came from a transport from a kill shelter in the south and my youngest dog was taken in by the UCSPCA from a rescue group looking for shelters to help with a tough situation. The Ulster County SPCA helps animals from all kinds of different situations find loving forever homes. Each animal in their care receives the best care from staff and volunteers and their happy ending begins the minute they walk in the door of the shelter.
The Ulster County SPCA is a wonderful organization run by hard working, compassionate, animal lovers. The shelter not only cares for their rescued animals, but for those in the community by way of their pantry. I’m proud to support them as a volunteer.
Great shelter with an incredibly caring staff. I adopted my dog from them who had been taken in from a hoarding case. They nursed her back to health and she has been a wonderful companion for me. I also volunteer here and enjoy being able to directly help the animals while working with others who care so much for animals and their welfare. Wonderful organization.
Having been a significant donor for the past seven years, I can attest to the value of investing in the mission of this organization. The animals are always the priority, and they have a positive impact in the community. I continue to donate because I know it is going to help the animals.
I have three animals from this organization and the amount of work that the staff puts in, especially the Executive Director, is truly remarkable. This isn't your usual not for profit as they are caring for lives of animals 365 days a year. A day just can't be skipped because of holidays or whatever, animals lives depend on their work each and every day. And they don't just save lives and care for animals, they complete homes and hearts all across the county. I love seeing the adoption photos each week where you can see people who just found their new friend. I don't know about you, but my home wouldn't be complete without the pets.
This organization is an asset to Ulster County. The Staff are extremely knowledgeable and caring of all the animals in their care. They go above and beyond and make it a top priority to find every animal a safe and loving forever home!! I praise them for their commitment and dedication to the UCSPCA

I adopted a dog from the Ulster County SPCA and over the years have been to events there, made donations and the like. I am so impressed with the care and love shown to the animals in their care. If I could give 10 stars I would.
We had a wonderful experience adopting two beautiful, healthy kittens from the UCSPCA. The staff were helpful, patient, and kind throughout the adoption process. We never felt rushed to make a decision while selecting kitties to add to our home. Everyone from the front desk to the vet staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend UCSPCA to anyone I know who is looking to give an animal a forever home.
All three of my animals have been adopted from the Ulster County SPCA. My cat was rescued from a hoarding situation by the UCSPCA Humane Law Department. My older dog was rescued from a kill shelter during a puppy transport organized by the UCSPCA where she and her litter mates would have otherwise been euthanized and instead all went to loving homes thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers. My younger dog came with many other dogs and cats that the UCSPCA took in from a rescue organization and was severely underweight until coming in to the care of the staff at the UCSPCA. This is a truly amazing organization that not only saves the lives of animals, but it completes the lives of families in our area.
I have called the UCSPCA and it's Humane Law Enforcement division to report abuse and neglect of animals. They have responded rapidly and rescued the abused, starving animal I reported. The UCSPCA cared for this dog, nursed it back to health and fought for it in court.
This was one animal, I know they have saved so many.

The people who work here, day in and day out, are the most awesome people I have had the pleasure to meet and work with. Their utmost goal is to never turn anyone away and to try and find every dog in their care a furever home. They work tirelessly to take care of all animals, great and small. and they are treated just like the individuals they are. They are all awesome and since they get no funding from anyone this county that the animals here are so lucky to have them
The UCSPCA is a wonderful organization. It’s very well run by hard working, caring animal lovers. They go a step beyond to make certain all animals are given a chance to find their forever home. Even during the pandemic, they’ve been doing an amazing job! I’m proud to be a volunteer, but sad that I cannot help now due to my age and risk factors. I look forward to rejoining their team of compassionate, professional animal lovers.
The Ulster County SPCA is a worthy organization for all that they do for animals near and far. Their tireless efforts in saving animals and sheltering them in their no-kill shelter is truly outstanding. I am glad to be a donor so they can do all that they do!
This animal rescue is extremely compassionate and gives the utmost care to the animals in its care. Clean and the staff is experienced and professional!
The UCSPCA has kept right on going through the lockdown, adopting out pets safely in accordance with the new regulations, providing more than 20,000 pounds of food through the community pantry, and working on humane law rescues. These are truly dedicated wonderful people!!
So happy our community has them.
The people who volunteer here and work here are so dedicated to loving these animals in need ❤️ They survive on donations and deserve every bit of so much more. Please always consider bringing your old linens to them for the animals in need. My heart belongs to these animals Adopt! I’ve met the Sweetest pups in this Spca ! The staff works with them and teaches them they can trust and be loved these animals Know you’re rescuing them!
The Ulster county SPCA has always been so caring and hardworking. I adopted my cat Emma from them years ago and I love her so incredibly much. The staff at the SPCA made her adoption such a pleasant experience and I plan on adopting from them again! I’m very grateful for them and all of the love and care they have for all of these amazing animals.
Wonderful employees who care so much for every animal. I volunteered there in high school and have adopted many pets in the many years after from them.
I currently have four dogs that I adopted from Ulster County SPCA over the last 4 years.
Even though we (myself and Staff at UCSPCA) knew it would take time to assess if the dogs would get along, the staff at UCSPCA worked with me over several weeks for each new addition, to make sure we could have a successful home. I am thrilled to say that I have four special, loving dogs who share my home with me. I want to thank UCSPCA for taking a chance of me and on these dogs and for the extra time, attention, and care that was needed for us to be successful.
My son and I adopted Ripley, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix in September 2019. He is the love of my life. The volunteers met us in the outdoor play area and we were able to get acquainted. Since my daughter and her husband live close by and have a Weimaraner and a Vizsla we wanted to be assured that the three pets would be comfortable with each other. The volunteers allowed us to bring my daughters pups the next day to the UCSPCA to interact with Ripley for almost an hour. All went well with this visit and since my son and I had already fallen in love with Ripley we were thrilled to bring him to his furever home. YEAH! The staff at the UCSPCA are incredibly knowledgeable regarding breed temperament, social skills, guarding issues, age appropriate adoptions and provide all information regarding their pets to the prospective adopter. I have donated to this shelter many times as I know the importance of correctly caring for a pet before and after adoption. Please donate to the UCSPCA in any way you can. Every little bit helps. The love and friendship of an adopted pet saves lives every day. Thank you to all at the UCSPCA for the hard work you do to help animals and humans in need :o)
I love the UCSPCA. I have adopted two dogs from their shelter and each adoption has been an excellent experience. They are professional and dedicated people who want the best for the animals in their care. Don't buy, adopt from UCSPCA!
The UCSPCA is the leader in our region. As a client a donor and a member of the community they have proven their dedication to our animal community. They have gone above and beyond as a habit.
Wonderful place! Guided me in the process of TNR and I was able to bring the ferals to them to be fixed! Great place and wonderful, knowledgeable, caring people working there!
We have adopted several pups from UCSPCA and the experience was joyful. Shea, Billy & Linus we’re loved members of our family (each) for over 14-16 years. Staff were very thorough & caring and having our current pup meet their future bro/sis was very beneficial.
This organization is so caring and kind to the many animals in need of their services. I donate food and blankets every year and even provided for them in my will as a beneficiary.
Memorial Day weekend I was sitting on the couch scrolling through FB when I saw a post from Ulster County SPCA. The post said the best part of a three day weekend was spending more time with a new friend. The picture was of a small scared Shitzu mix. Something tugged my heart and I was in the car and heading to the shelter. The staff were amazing and within a hour I had a friend. Monica has a big heart for a little dog and a few health issues that were identified at the shelter and she is doing great now. Thank you for all you do everyday.
Love the SPCA. Super friendly staff~ Quick adaption process. Staff helped us with all our questions. Overall a great experience. Would recommend to all my friends. We love our chihuahua from the SPCA
I had circumstances beyond my control and had to re-home my 2 dogs. These folks found suitable homes for them and I am forever heartbroken but so thankful for their help.
We adopted a dog and cat, at different times, from Ulster SPCA. With our dog, they were extremely concerned with how he would be cared for as he was very large and active (Great Dane and black lab) I’ve had dogs my whole life but I appreciated the level of concern. It was not about getting a dog out the door but how that dog would live and be cared for. We were a perfect match and Valentine was probably my favorite dog. We still have Lucy (Petula) the Cat and she’s about 15 years old now. Great fur babies from a great place!
My husband and I adopted a cat from the UCSPCA In January after the death of a beloved pet. We had gone to another shelter closer to home, but were treated rudely and the staff seemed unaware of animals’s medical needs. So we decided to go to Ulster. The staff were kind, patient, and knowledgeable about the personalities and needs of the cats under their care, and took the time to answer all our questions. They adoption coordinator made sure the cat we chose would be compatible with the cat already living with us. In the end, we brought home a 4 year old male kitty named Swan who is an absolute joy. We are so happy with the process and the care given to making sure the adoption would work.
put in requests to adopt at least 6 different dogs and I never received a reply Now all the dogs I was interested in are gone. You have no problem asking for donations but you ignore the people who can actually afford all necessary to care for a dog. I have given up. I have filled out probably 25 adoption papers for dogs. I hope you realize that I am thoroughly saddened by all of this. And I am completely disappointed in you. What is the secret to getting a dog?
I love the magic that happens at this shelter! Everyone works so hard on behalf of so many animals. I’ve been a volunteer for about 2 1/2 years and adopted this little cat 2 years ago. He’s living proof that ferals can come around to be lovebugs with enough care and patience!
When your friend texts because people tried to leave fish after hours and get caught.... well, you drop everything and go to help and adopt fish. Anything for UCSPCA.
Thank you Gina and UCSPCA for saving them.
They are well.

The three dogs starting from the right were adopted from the Ulster County SPCA. The fourth dog has been a part time foster host. I've been a volunteer for over 9 years. The shelter has been my happy place, populated by people and animals I love. I totally recommend the UCSPCA for adoptions, low cost clinics, training, volunteering and great special events.
I have been a volunteer with the UCSPCA for over 11 years and it certainly has become a very important and rewarding piece of my life, especially since I retired. The staff and volunteers truly care about each and every life that comes through the doors of this animal shelter. Although some of the time it is absolutely heart-breaking to hear the stories of abandonment, cruelty, and starvation which these animals have suffered at the hands of humans there are also the happy-ending stories and pure joy when an animal goes to a loving home, no matter how long it takes. I have had the pleasure of meeting many wonderful and caring people who work or volunteer there, or support the shelter in so many different ways. Plus we've adopted 2 dogs and 4 cats over the years who became beloved members of our family.
I adopted both my pups from the UCSPCA & volunteer as much as I can. Just a really great group of people doing really great things for animals in need & I'm proud to be a part of the family ❤
I started volunteering for the UCSPCA almost 10 years ago. The care and dedication to the animals by staff and volunteers is really amazing. I have also adopted my two sweet dogs and cat from UCSPCA! Thank you UCSPCA!
I first came to the UCSPCA in 2013 to look at some adoptable cats. I was so impressed by the animals and people I met there that 6 years later, I'm still there as a volunteer. This shelter provides the best possible care to the animals of this county that need help, and then makes every effort to find the best possible homes for them. And with no funding from the county or the ASPCA, they have taken in 1000 animals this year as of Oct. 2019 and found homes for 750, all with private donations, a small dedicated staff, and many volunteers who treasure their time there.
We donate our time and supplies to this great non profit shelter. They do not receive any funding from the ASPCA so they are always finding unique and fun fundraising opportunities. The care the animals receive is fantastic and the shelter is staffed by great people!
We adopted a dog from the Ulster County SPCA and the staff was was friendly and helpful. They took their time and helped us select a dog that was the perfect fit for our family.
The ucspca is where I met the love of my life, Stanley. A 75 pound rottie mix. I've been volunteering there for about three years.. I think the work they do is amazing and much needed in the world.
The Ulster County SPCA is just wonderful! We've donated to them many times, but our best experience was our adoption of Mr. Forest. He was a small brown dog who was a Hurricane Harvey Dog transported from a Texas adoption shelter. He was the last 'Harvey Dog' and we were lucky to adopt him from the UCSPCA! Mr. Forest fits right in with his new dog, cat and human family. The hard work the UCSPCA makes it possible for so many dogs in shelters to find loving homes. If you have time go visit, but just know you might come home with a new furry best friend!
This shelter does so much not only for the animals in their care, but also for the community. They regularly arrange long-distance transports for dogs in southern states where shelters are full, they hold really fun and creative fundraisers that allow dogs and people to socialize and exercise together, their volunteers work on training the dogs in their care to help them become more adoptable, and they host an in-house training class for adopted dogs to ensure adoptions are successful. The staff and volunteers show incredible care, compassion, and dedication in everything they do. I adopted my dog from this shelter, and many of my friends and family have done the same. We have all had wonderful experiences and have had so much love and happy tails added to our lives because of the UCSPCA. I recommend this shelter to everyone I know. 5/5 stars!
The UCSPCA is a wonderful organization! I have been a volunteer dog walker there for many years. The experience has had a profoundly positive effect on my life. I have added 4 amazing rescue animals to my home, and have had the opportunity to help countless others find their forever homes. Each animal is lovingly cared for and advocated for. Besides the animals, my volunteer time there has introduced me to some of the most compassionate, giving and selfless people I have ever met! They are fully dedicated to ensuring the well being of the animals in our community and educating the public as well!
This organization goes above and beyond to help not only the animals of Ulster County, but also the people that love the animals of Ulster County. They have a food pantry that helps people that might not otherwise be able to feed their pets, therefore helping those people keep their pets. Every effort is made to take in strays when space allows, as a no-kill non-profit that gets no funding from county, state, or government entities every penny and every inch of space is so important. Kudos to you, UCSPCA. I don't know what this county would do without you.
We adopted our wonderful Rottweiler mix from the Ulster County SPCA. The staff was incredibly thorough and helpful, giving us faith in the excellent care that the animals at the UCSPCA receive. I was so impressed that I signed up as a volunteer and all of my first impressions were not only reconfirmed but amplified after getting behind the scenes. Fantastic organization.
I had a mother cat come up to me meowing her head off.She was feral.i started feeding her.several weeks later she bought her kittens to the feeding area.thanks to the ulster county SPCA spey and neuter program I was able to get all of her kittens fixed at a very reasonable price.Someday I might be lucky enough to catch the momma cat but in the meantime thanks to these people I have been keeping the numbers down
I was lucky enough to adopt a senior dog that was rescued by the UCSPCA after being dumped on the steets of New Paltz. They do their due diligence to make sure the animal and person are the right fit. Nov I will have the little man for 1 year. So happy love him so much! Thanks for all you do UC SPCA! As you can see the little guy in grey fits right in!
I have 12 stray cats that I feed daily but it was getting out of control, this wonderful group just took 6 in and neutered them and next week I have an appointment for the other 6 cats....this TNR program keeps them safe and healthy and I will continue to feed them to continue there quality of life as free running feral cats....
I have adopted 6 animals from the UCSPCA over the years. The latest 2 great cats. Almost 17 years ago we adopted Casey, a collie shepherd mix. The best dog and she is still going strong. We love her with all of our hearts. The UCSPCA is great. They do great work. Go see them and find your furry true love as we did.
