Programs: Care for people in need: funds raised and disbursed by uja-federation of new york aid almost 1. 5 million people a year in new york city, westchester and long island through the activities of close to 100 beneficiary agencies as well as other grantees. These agencies serve both jews and non-jews of all ages, including immigrants, seniors, holocaust survivors, people with disabilities, the sick and the poor, and those suffering economic strife. Uja-federation's grants also promote volunteerism, recruiting and training hundreds of volunteers who in turn serve thousands of clients. Moreover, through grants to the jewish federations of north america, which supports the jewish agency for israel (jafi), (continued on schedule o, page 84)(continued)the american jewish joint distribution committee (jdc),and other grantees, uja-federation provides support for assistance to immigrants, the poor and the elderly, children at risk, and other vulnerable populations, touching more than three million jews a year throughout the world. Services include housing, medical care, end-of-life and palliative care, mental health counseling, education, food programs, vocational education and guidance, trauma relief, and citizenship and acculturation skills. In total, in fiscal year 2014, more than 380 grants went to approximately 125 agencies to care for people in need.

inspire a passion for jewish life and learning: uja-federation supports innovative initiatives that strengthen and renew synagogue life and jewish life on college campuses, encourage young jews to discover their roots and communal identity through experiences in israel, strengthen jewish education, engage families with children, and reach out to unaffiliated jews. Uja-federation supports informal and formal jewish education programs for children and adults in the new york area; providing scholarship funds to nearly 50 jewish day schools, nearly 50 israel experience programs, numerous jewish summer camps and, through the fund for jewish education, provides funding for medical and pension benefits for educators(continued on schedule o, page 85)(continued)in hundreds of jewish day schools in the eight-county region. In fiscal year 2014, nearly 250 grants went to approximately 190 agencies to inspire a passion for jewish life and learning.

strengthen jewish communities: to strengthen the bonds among jews around the world, uja-federation provides financial support for rescue and resettlement of jews from distressed communities as well as for jews choosing to make a new life in israel. Jewish community centers and other community-based organizations in the eight-county area in and around new york city serve as gateways into the jewish community and into american society and provide vital services for immigrants. Uja-federation's grants to jafi and jdc provide support for resettlement of jews from ethiopia and the former soviet union in israel. Through enhanced education programs for adults, leadership training, and a variety of social supports for(continued on schedule o, page 85)(continued)immigrant families, uja-federation fosters immigrants' integration into israeli society. Uja-federation also supports community relations organizations in new york and israel that promote tolerance, equality and mutual respect among diverse populations. In fiscal year 2014, more than 150 grants went to nearly 100 agencies to strengthen jewish communities.
