How can any of these here folks have a heart they pick and choose and God forbid your a pervert and you donate to them they will hold you up in honor no matter what dog gets hurt. They claimed to be Christians but in my eyes all they are is holy rollers this need and a spot in the limelight and the only way they found it was rescuing dogs and making them suffer sometimes but I don't guess that matters as long as they're donating money to y'all I pray my God shows you a different way I pray my God don't show you no mercy either when it comes to judgment Day
This is Hudson! My husband found him on the ‘’Two by Two’ Rescue’s website right before Easter 2019, he was the first picture that appeared and it was love at first sight for us! He was a stray, not very well behaved, a street thug with no manners you could say when he came home with us. Under all the bravado that possibly kept him alive on the mean streets where he lived was a sweet little soul that was smart, sweet and so eager to please. With lots of love, plenty of AKC training for him and for me he is a perfect addition to our family! He makes us laugh…a lot! He is so beautiful and well behaved when he is out with us people that see him will smile as they pass and often ask to pet him. He is out in the world spreading joy everywhere he goes! We love our Huddie!
We adopted Latte from Two by Two Animal Rescue, and she’s been the best pet! Her foster mom loved and trained her so well, and she has transitioned so well to our family.
These people do everything they can, to help every dog they can. They’re so easy to work with and I can’t recommend them enough. They’ll never leave you with an animal that isn’t a good fit for your family. Excellent communication and excellent leadership. A great place to foster or volunteer!
Two By Two has been there to help countless times with pets in need with the vet clinic I work for. I now foster for them and they've made the process smooth and simple! They're invaluable to our community.
This organization is near & dear to my heart. They help rescue ALL animals all over the state of AL & nationwide. They work with local vets & now have their own on staff. The amount of love for the safety & well being of the animals in their charge from not only staff but volunteers & their fosters is awesome. Anyone looking to dedicate their time, money or fostering should check them out. A calling was out on the heart of Sonya King & she answered!
Two by Two is an amazing nonprofit! I have fostered dogs for them twice! They go above and beyond for all their doggos! I have seen them drive across state lines to pickup former alumni that were dumped at pounds. They have an incredible system in place to help both volunteers and adopters!
Fabulous organization with a passion for bringing joy to fur babies and humans. We brought home our first foster through Two by Two and it was love at first sight! Didn’t take long to know we would move from fostering to adopting very fast. Everyone is so kind and helpful. Two by Two is a blessing in more ways than I can count!
I have had the privilege of serving as both a foster home and as an emergency transport. My first foster, Jack, was starving and had severe mange. He needed a safe spot to land while he healed, and Two by Two provided everything he needed—medical care, bedding, and food—while I simply provided a warm lap and a lot of love. My next, Chester, needed to recover from parvo. Again, everything was provided for his care. Another, Tylan, needed major surgery after being hit by a car and abandoned by his owners. And my most recent, Pancake, was rescued by Two by Two from a high-kill shelter on the day she was scheduled for euthanasia. All four of these dogs are now in loving homes because Two by Two provided all the material resources and promised “no more bad days” for each of them. #FosteringSavesLives, and Two by Two is the energy force and the financial support behind every foster that makes it all possible.
I really enjoy fostering for Two by Two rescue. Everyone involved with the organization is friendly, competent and fully committed to finding the best homes for these animals. I find that everyone there goes out of their way to make sure the fosters have Everything they need for a successful fostering experience. They stay engaged in UP to date on the animal's situation from being placed in a foster home all the way to a successful adoption. I appreciate how easy it is to work with everyone there.

I have fostered a pregnant momma dog and her 14 puppies. Two By Two made sure I had everything I needed to care for them and made sure the pups were sent to good homes to continue being fostered until they were adopted.
I had a sweet, very young mama dog that seemed to be abandoned and lactating but no puppies around. She was in horribe shape. I called Two by Two and they helped me with the dog by taking her in. The dog is now with her forever mama. I always love the animal enrichment program where you can go spend time with a dog for the day when cant foster like my situaiton.
The entire team at Two by Two are truly doing the Lord’s work. They selflessly love and care for animals that have seen the worst of humanity and promise them no more bad days. They work long and tirelessly and yet they continue to work even harder to save the sweet animals that need saving! They are heroes and I am so lucky to have been introduced to this nonprofit! I can’t praise this group enough!
I have been involved with Two by Two Rescue for several years and I appreciate how every effort is made to rescue animals in need. Two by Two holds adoption events nearly every weekend to help find animals their permanent homes. Foster homes are provided everything they need to care for animals while they are in foster care, including food, beds, crates, toys and all medical expenses are provided for as well. Two by Two is active and responsive on social media, which is very important these days.
I can’t say enough great things about Two by Two. They have a clear mission and they do more than show in their acts that they truly do what they say. I’ve donated, fostered, volunteer and adopted (multiple times)….I’m proud to say that I’m associated with two by two. Their staff is beyond helpful and have a true passion. We need more organizations like this more.
Wonderful rescue, with an amazing founder, staff and volunteers. I began fostering for Two by Two in 2022 and i don’t think I’ll ever stop! It is so much fun and rewarding, not to mention the rescue covers all costs, all you have to do is provide love. Every time one dog is fostered, two lives are saved!

Sonya King, the staff, volunteers, and Fosters have a servant’s heart to serve selfless for the needs of abused and abandoned animals. It costs them emotionally, spiritually, and physically but work tirelessly on. The results are “no more bad days “ for thousands of dogs and cats who are comforted in loving foster homes until they find their forever home.

In a time of social/physical distancing and community unrest, Two by Two remains on the front line of rescuing, fostering, and caring for abandoned and abused animals as well as in some cases the animal's owner. The organization is comprised of many dedicated and compassionate individuals that are a positive impact in the community. It is a privilege to serve as a Board member for this organization.
Amazing association. Everyone at two by two takes rescue animals very seriously because they not only care of saving animals from shelters or the streets they really care of animal wellbeing by taking them to fosters, having them play and socialize with humans and other animals and keep them healthy and loved. I have helped them with fostering and their team is super organized and extremely supportive and make you feel as part of a big family.
I've donated, fostered, and volunteered with Two by Two. They are hands down one of the best organizations I've worked with. Their mission is clear and everything they do supports that mission. I know that every dollar I donate and every hour of time goes entirely to support the animals in our region. They have my loyalty for life.
I have been associated with Two By Two Rescue for almost 13 years! I've fostered, adopted, volunteered and served on the board. The organization truly cares about the animals and helping educate the public to lessen the amount of homeless and neglected animals.

I have been involved with Two By Two Rescue for eight years. The rescue's heart is in the right place, not only helping animals but people as well. I have fostered, done behind the scenes work and helped at countless events. Our leader is fearless, compassionate and an inspiration for all of us who volunteer our time, efforts and money!
This beautiful girl was adopted from 2x2 animal rescue from Do Dah Day in 2014. She was only 4 months old then and is 8 years old now. I can’t imagine my life without this sweet girl. She has truly enriched our lives. If your thinking about adopting a friend then you are on the right website.
I tried to adopt but was turned down because a friend of mine gave me a dog and I don’t have any of the vet records for said animal and the shelter refused to let me adopt 3 puppies cuz I couldn’t give proof on the dog already in my home. I have adopted 4 dogs from 4 different shelters and was never asked for vet records of the current animals in my home. I would not adopt from them. They are horrible
My husband and I have fostered for Two by Two for about 5 years now. We don’t foster all the time and they are never pushy about that. Heather is really good about remembering who likes what kind of dog (big, little, old, young) and offers those to foster. When she knows you’ve lost a dog and another comes in who she thinks might help heal your heart, she will let you know. We have foster failed with them three times, all precious old guys, who came from bad situations. Once, a really sweet dog was creeped out by our cat and they quickly found him another foster who didn’t have cats. We have been able to help home several pups and have felt like they got the best home. As a foster, Two by Two lets their foster families chose the home they feel would be best for the dog who’s been living in their home, so they know that dog better than anyone else. Of course, you will have some who are very upset that they didn’t get chosen but there are soooo many pups out there and absolutely the perfect pup for every family who is willing to put in the time and effort to give a rescue a happy life. My most recent experience with them, which will always be very precious to me, happened this week. One of our own dogs, who we adopted 14 years ago from a Humane Society shelter, was dying. We knew she was not going to be able to stay here much longer but she was still moving around well and happy. We took her on a vacation with us and three days in, she took a hard turn for the worst. What to do, keep her comfortable, try to make it back home, find a vet where we were to help her cross the bridge? As I’m trying to decide, I contacted Sonya and Heather and asked them to please pray for my baby. They did and were so sweet. They wanted me to keep in touch and when our little angel passed on, they were so kind. These guys really are special. We are so blessed to have been introduced to them!!
Two By Two is excellent in every way. They are the main pet rescue I donate too. They do a superb job in saving pets’ lives.

This is a first class, no kill animal shelter. Kind and compassionate people going above and beyond the normal in an attempt to save any and all animals they can. I cannot say enough good things about the work they do. I donate and on occasion foster so I am aware of their efforts. They’re the very best...apl
There just isn’t enough space to share everything Two by Two has been to our hearts and to our family! At my feet is Elliott, our first foster of six years ago, and it has been wild and beautiful ride ever since! So many fosters, so much love, grace and compassion! Well done team, our family is eternally grateful!!
I have been following this company for a few years now. I decided I wanted to foster a dog with them. They had me fill out an application to make sure I was suitable. They rescued the dog from a shelter. They brought the dog to my house! They had all the supplies I needed for the dog. They encouraged me to take pictures for the website so the dog would get adopted. The dog had already been spayed and was up to date on vaccines to make it easy for the families who would adopt. (I was a foster fail.) But I see how they are constantly rescuing animals so they can have better lives. They are constantly at work on this mission. I donate to this group on a monthly basis because I feel very strongly that my money is going to a great cause. I love to see the success stories that they post. I am so glad that there are people in this world like them, saving as many lives as they can.
Awesome organization. We have adopted and foster for Two by Two And the love and support they give is unmatched. They make fostering so easy!
I love this rescue! We have supported them for years. One of the things that give me confidence in this organization is their requirements for prospective adopters. Applications, vet references, basic requirements, etc., ensure the dogs will be well taken care of once adopted. Many times multiple individuals apply for the same dog, and decisions are made on the best fit, not “first come, first served”, which is absolutely in the dog’s best interest! This organization rescues and saves animals in horrible condition, getting them as healthy as possible before adoption. They are honest with potential adopters regarding dogs’ personalities, too. We have adopted three Two By Two dogs and could not be happier!
I’ve been working with Two By Two for a few years and have also fostered and adopted multiple dogs in that time. It’s a great organization with compassion for saving dogs in need.
I have both fostered and adopted through Two by Two Rescue. I can see first hand that the dogs come first. That's what matters! Thanks for all you do to save as many should as possible.
Two by Two Rescue does all they can to help every animal in need. They take in dogs on a daily basis to rehabilitate them.
I’ve worked with Two by Two for a short time and have seen such a sweet sense of community and love for animals. The amount of animals that need help is more than I ever dreamed and there are so many wonderful people that open up their homes to show them love. It’s a very beautiful thing!!
Great organization!!
They have amazing process in place after they rescue dog.
All dogs are spayed and neutered then evaluated to see best type of home they will work in. They have built up a large base of foster families that specialize in everything from older dogs to puppies.
They are truly a no kill rescue operation that has done incredible work giving thousands of animals great homes.
These little guys would have never made it if it wasn't for Two by Two and the fosters they found. They with have been euthanized and not given a chance.. I'm very thankful for Two by Two Rescue it has been wonderful taking care of my foster furbaby!!
An amazing network of animal advocate volunteers working to rescue animals in need, rehab them physically snd emotionally, and match them with forever families. The dedication of this team and the detailed organization and custom care are incredible.
So I got my first dog from them years ago and the adoption employee was overlooking me because I was a college student. She judged me and my sisters by the way we look. She questioned us saying what are you going to do when y’all split up or if one of y’all goes out. We don’t go out we had a difficult upbringing that fused us to rely on eachother and learn responsibility at a very young age. The adoption employee made me feel so uncomfortable that I had given up until someone else reached out and we finally got him. He’s been great since because we got him as a puppy. I should have kept this situation in mind as we fast forward 7 years later but I’m an animal lover and I had space for another dog and my partner liked this dog too. The foster mom told us that the dog we were getting was calm and good with others. That he was crate trained and he doesn’t show aggressive behaviors. My boyfriend and I are both full time students and work full time and we live in an apartment in a busy city we told her all of this on the phone before even meeting the dog, she reassured us that he would be perfect for us. She also called another employee who’s over adoption and she also said that the dog would be a perfect fit for us. We brought our other dog to meet him and they were cool. We went to the foster home and spent time with both dogs and the other dogs just to get a better feel. After we signed the paperwork and paid the $275 with tax adoption fee she said oh by the way he has motion sickness I should have told you that at the beginning. We let it go and dealt with the vomit we cleaned up on the way home. A week later we notice that he nips and chews on everything from cords, to houseplants and he repeatedly bites my other dogs limbs. I buy chew toys and sprays to help with his chewing. We notice that he barks at everything outside. People, cars passing by (we live in the middle of a city so this is frequent). I reach out to the foster mom who tells me to use Google. So I start working on teaching him sit he does well inside but outside he gets so enraged by all things around us that redirecting him isn’t possible. So we try training we do a private lesson and he doesn’t show aggression alone so the trainer told us to record him behavior. We spend $200 on training just to be told that when he barks like that we need to give him a command. We work with him for another couple of weeks no change. Yesterday I’m waking him to potty and he bites the back of my calf through denim pants while he’s aggressively barking at neighbors and cars passing by. I reach out to both the foster mom and the adoption employee and I send them pictures of my bite which broke skin and videos to show his behavior. The foster mom tells us that she never tried him on a leash before which is baffling to me. The adoption employee guilt trips me and says his behavior is normal and that I shouldn’t hit a better trainer and that I shouldve reached out earlier. I did that the first week they were no help. We were upfront about our situation, but they tricked us into getting a dog on false pretenses. The adoption employee responded to my texts saying she’s at a birthday dinner with no concern that I just got a level 3 bite by one of their dogs. I feel like they just wanted the money and as soon as they got it that was it. I will never work with two by two again until they have a better adoption employee. She was cold, rude and disrespectful. I’m very disappointed with how this organization handles things.
We adopted a second dog from Two by Two Rescue recently. We were assured that she had been vetted with and was "okay with cats" and that she "loved her crate". Neither was true, she did all she could do to escape her crate, and sadly managed to destroy a solid steel crate and escape 3 days after we got her. She then proceeded to stalk, torture and kill one of our sweet cats simply for sport. He was a rag doll, a completely loving and docile little man, and was in no way a threat to anyone. Like predators do, she fixated on him as the easy mark, and she killed him in a most vicious manner. Two by Two, after they came and got this dog, Betty Lou, put her BACK UP FOR ADOPTION the very next day... The gentleman who prepared his body for us to say goodbye at the pet cremation service we chose, who sees dead animals every day, was so disturbed by the condition of our cat's broken , destroyed little body that he reached out me to find out what happened. When he learned of all of the above, He reached out to Two by Two of his own accord to ask why they would consider readopting this dog. I have attempted to contact Two by Two privately via phone, text and email, simply asking for communication to acknowledge and explain their position. They have refused to even a canned response, any acknowledgment, despite the fact we adopted our other dog from them, we have supported them via fund raisers and via donations. Didn't want to go online, but felt we had no choice. Why can't you acknowledge us, Two by Two??? It's the human thing to do...If you truly believe all animals matter you owe us at least a cursory offline response.
It seems as though foster families here only pick families to adopt dogs that are of their same race. My kids and I were looking forward to adopting this beautiful puppy and was sent an email late this evening saying, we weren’t chosen. There is absolutely no reason that this puppy should not have been given to us. My kids loved him. Definitely a waste of time trying to adopt an animal through this company based on my ethnicity.
They so lovingly pour into these animals and bring vibrancy back into their spirits. An awesome organization!
Two by Two does an excellent job caring for dogs through their amazing, committed network of volunteer foster families! They provide training, networking opportunities, and community for their fosters and adopters who in turn provide loving homes for dogs who have many times been rescued from horrific situations.
The goal of Two by Two Rescue is to improve life-saving rates throughout Alabama, a state that is #7 in the country for pet shelter deaths and has a 29.9% kill rate, according to recent data from Best Friends Animal Society. Currently animal control facilities throughout Central Alabama bypass other animal control facilities and send animals directly to Two by Two in order to save them from this high kill potentiality. This strategy enables Two by Two to save hundreds of dogs each year; however, sadly the rescue must turn away over 100 dogs each month due to lack of funding for spay/neuter, medical care, and other staffing-related needs.
COVID-19 has triggered a record increase in the number of abandoned animals and adoption requests this volunteer-driven nonprofit typically receives, partly because many families are releasing and abandoning their pets as they face surmounting stress to pay bills and put food on the table due to job insecurity and loss. This left hundreds of homeless pets wandering Greater Birmingham’s urban and rural areas. Two by Two’s dedicated volunteer/foster base of over 350 families stepped in to rescue these abandoned pets, transport them to local partner veterinarians for medical care, and foster them until permanent homes could be found.
Since the pandemic’s onset, Two by Two volunteers have rescued twice as many dogs as usual—between 20 and 30 dogs each week. Generally, this rescue has 100 dogs in foster care on any given day—the majority of which require spay/neuter services. In fact, Two by Two community volunteers rescued 127 dogs during the month of July alone. Currently, the nonprofit is adopting out over 20 dogs weekly—a 40% increase since the onset of the pandemic.
Two by Two is changing the animal welfare landscape in Alabama--one dog at a time!
I love how many animals they have saved. Great pets that might not have been rescued by other organizations due to their age, appearance or medical needs. I have two loving pets only because of TBT.
We’ve worked with Two by Two to both adopt and foster dogs, and our experiences have been 100 percent positive. These are passionate, dedicated people who are committed to doing what’s best for dogs, from medical treatment to family placement. Two by two makes excellent use of social media to keep people informed of what’s going on with their dogs, all with the intention of finding them permanent families.
We adopted our big lovable boy for two by two. I love their process. Everyone wants to find the perfect family for dogs and parents. We will be back when we are ready for our next family member.
Pictured are our three rescues, none of which would be alive today if it wasn't for Two by Two Animal Rescue. Lazarus was euthanized twice in one day and lived, Tucker was dumped in the woods with his mom and siblings, and Mr. Boris was found completely paralyzed with tick paralysis being attacked by another dog. Two by Two rescued them and we could not imagine life without them.
I have been volunteering with this wonderful rescue since 2013 and I have seen hundreds of beautiful souls get the lives that they deserved. One of my favorite fosters was Wheaton (German Shepherd), who was rescued literally at the brink of death. He was emaciated, heart worm positive, and covered in mange. We could not even recognize his breed, but his eyes revealed a beautiful and trusting soul. He tolerated painful injections, medicated baths, and many other painful procedures. When his health improved, he was adopted by a wonderful family and within months, was as beautiful on the outside as he was on the inside. Thank you Two by Two for giving them all a chance to be cared for and loved.

We received our wonderful, most recent addition to our family from Two by Two. He was so healthy and gorgeous and the sweetest black lab you could ever love. Two by Two and the adoption counselors are so helpful and made sure he was up to date on all his required vaccinations.
Fantastic rescue! I have adopted two German Shepherds from Two by Two, and I could’ve have asked for a better experience each time. Super helpful, knowledgeable, friendly coordinators and so many great dogs to choose from. The adoption process was smooth and stress-free. Two by Two truly goes above and beyond to ensure these dogs go to great, fitting homes. So thankful this rescue came into my life!
the very best non-profit in the state, in my opinion. they stand in the gap for precious animal souls that don’t have anyone to love them and look after them. they vet all their adopters and take the time to make sure the right pup goes to the right family, instead of clearing out all the animals for a small adoption fee. 2x2 is the BEST!
I have been involved with Two By Two Rescue for over a decade! I have fostered and helped with a lot of behind the scenes tasks. I believe in this organization and what they stand for, it's heart for helping not only animals in need but the community as a whole.
I began volunteering for Two By Two Rescue in March 2020 when the pandemic began. My husband and I have opened our home to three dogs in need and had the honor of watching these beautiful creatures blossom and find there happily ever after, furever homes. I have recently begun volunteering as a foster coordinator with the rescue and am now able to assist all of our foster dogs and families. I love getting to see how the rescue works on a large scale- it's truly incredible how all volunteers work together like a well-oiled machine. Two By Two has been a pleasure to work with as all of the staff and volunteer members are dedicated, kind, knowledgeable, and professional. I highly recommend this organization to anyone who is looking to become a foster in the central Alabama area or adopt a furry family member!

I first encountered Two by Two Rescue when they a two person operation known only to a handful of locals with kennels in their backyard. We had a very skittish pregnant stray discover our office property as a sanctuary but would not allow us to get close. Through extensive efforts they successfully attracted the mom and saved her and the litter. They have since grown to be a large and efficient operation with an impeccable regional reputation as a solely philanthropic organization with huge hearts. I have participated in their highly successful charitable events and they have gone to great lengths to help me with successful charitable events. The soul of their organization is their love of animals with none of the egos or personal goals which are all to common with many pet related non-profits. There is no challenge too great, and they require no reward other than the opportunity to help find homes for homeless pets.
Amazing organization that fills a huge need in the community. We have been so happy with our rescue dog and very grateful for all their work.
Two by Two Rescue is the best rescue I have ever worked with--they have helped me rescue horses and dogs, plus helped me improve my care for those I have rescued with advice, medicines, and supplies. Now, I am a client served as well as a volunteer who offers my ranch and home for their events. This is why.
I met them when adopting a horse they saved from starvation. They had to return repeatedly to negotiate with an owner without ability to feed horses. They had to raise money to buy horses. One was so weakened she died, though Baye recovered because of rescue and foster care. She is healthy and happy here at Triple D with food, shelter, and care. Without Two by Two, this horse would not have had a chance.
Two by Two coordinated the adoption process for a senior horse whose owner died and needed a forever home. They reviewed 100 inquiries and facilitated the process just because animal care is their mission--the rescue received no fees. Crockett is happy with his herd and forever home. Without Two by Two, we would not have known Crockett needed a home.
A homeless dog I was trying to rescue got picked up by a shelter and then seemed lost when the staff did not return calls. Fearing euthanasia, Two by Two stepped in with their network of contacts to locate the dog, get a response, and support rescue. I paid the adoption fee to the shelter and Two by Two contributed advice and basic meds at no cost.
After several staff and volunteers visited a few times to work on plans and possibilities for working together, the sheriff department asked us for help to rescue two horses. The Deputy Sheriff for animal control took possession of two horses the vet confirmed were within a week of death. Both were hundreds of pounds underweight. Thanks to Two by Two donors, staff took action immediately to provide vet care including a surgery. Whatever it takes to give a chance! Both horses came here to Triple D for rehab with Two by Two supporting costs for their feed and supplies. In three months, the largest horse has already re-gained 200 pounds!
Because of Two by Two posting about the rescued horses getting help and hope, a call for help came in about a pony in distress. She was lame, alone, and could barely walk due to her hooves not being trimmed in years plus infection. Over two days, we assessed, worked out rescue plans with the previous owner, and got her transported to vet care and surgery. After weeks of recovery and rehab, she can walk and has companionship. Her life is changed! See her photo during surgery to restore her hooves.
Their foster care model is a key reason why we need Two by Two helping shelters to develop foster programs. Even during the Covid pandemic, the Two by Two model kept working. When some shelters closed, 2x2's model allowed them to keep serving because they can easily practice social distancing: rescue to vet to foster to adopter--with professional staff supporting volunteers.
Professional staff while modest in number and compensation, add a needed dimension. They are available 7 days per week and they are more capable of providing leadership and systems to create a model for the state and nation.
One example of service the beyond the call is public service events to distribute dog food and supplies to shelters and individual care givers in Central Alabama. I have not seen other rescues or shelters be able to invest days of extra time to help others like this. I attended both events and witnessed many volunteer-only rescues receiving vital supplies to help them operate with care.
Two by Two seems to be the largest foster-based rescue in Alabama and is growing in fosters, staff, and services to more animals. And, they are positioned to become an example of foster care and a model for operating during pandemics on a national scale.
I support Two by Two Rescue and seek to help them provide more and better service to animals and people who care for them. - David

I do NOT recommend using Two by Two to adopt a dog. We already had a sweet dog we were planning to meet and highly likely to adopt and they didn’t even get him until Wednesday and had to be neutered. We met with the fosters to meet him on Saturday and said YES we want to adopt him. Since it was the weekend we were just waiting on the 2nd part of the adoption paperwork and then we find out this morning the fosters decided to keep him and take him right out from under us. They are VERY unprofessional to allow this to happen and it be okay. We even asked them “Are you positive y’all are not gonna want him?” and they said “No. We just don’t think we would have the time to give him the attention he deserves.” bc we didn’t want this to happen.
I am a foster mom for this amazing organization. After years of seeing their dogs at a adoption events at a local pet store and dropping money in donation buckets I'd see with their name, I finally volunteered to foster dogs. It have been an amazing experience. I was super afraid I'd be a foster fail, but to date I haven't been. It's been rewarding to see my foster dogs find "furever" homes.

About 3 and a half years ago my wife and I saw a picture of our now adopted "Rocky" who was being fostered by Wendy Pigford, a volunteer for Two by Two. What made this discovery so interesting was my wife and I saw Rocky through Facebook at different times and immediately fell in love with him! However, I had a cat that was 18 years old and was worried what it would be like introducing her to a dog (she was scared of dogs for most of her life).
We took a leap of faith and went to Alabama to meet Rocky and needless to say it was the right decision. He just seemed to click with me, Christy and our daughter Keighley! When we returned home with Rocky my cat at first was shy and stayed clear of him but miraculously she warmed up to him rather quickly. Rocky was so gentle and kind to her! This dog has the sweetest soul and was a blessing from God.
Sadly, I lost my cat a few months later due to failing kidneys. Rocky helped me get through the dark days and our love for him grew. Our other adopted dog, Raider was essentially adopted by Rocky. Wendy was looking after Rocky while we were on a family vacation and during that time he met Raider and from that moment they were attached to the hip! Raider was a younger and would definitely keep Rocky on his toes. We made the decision while on vacation to bring Raider home with us too!
Today, my wife and I could not imagine our life without these beautiful dogs! They are such a blessing and joy to have each and every day!!
Sincerely,
Chris and Christy Hazlewood

Passion, pups, people and prayer. To me, that best describes Two by Two Animal Rescue. Every volunteer in this organization is honored and appreciated regardless of their serving capacity or role. We take in dogs of all breeds and ages, including ones that would otherwise be given no chance. Many of the ones you would think are at death’s door, are healed, fostered, loved, and find wonderful homes. Two by Two is faith based. Being a part of this rescue has renewed my heart and soul in so many ways. They are my puppy passion family.
Wonderfully selfless souls with a passion for saving animals’ lives and bringing people together to follow in their fearless footsteps.
Where do I begin? Two by Two is one of the most wonderful life saving rescue groups around. I have fostered pets for them. They never turn down a desperate animal. There’re always out there trying to rescue in danger pets from the streets , the country, hoarders and puppy mills. They are selfless and devoted to rescuing as many animals as they possibly can. There are not enough adjectives to describe what they do.
Two by Two Rescue is a band of dedicated caring people! They have this incredible band of volunteers who have all these different skills and abilities so that whether you are a rescuer, a foster family or a forever family you are in great hands and any resources you need are just a call away!
Two by Two is a wonderful organization.
I am a foster mom and I have seen many sick and/or injured animals, that would have been put down in a shelter, adopted into happy healthy homes.
No matter the cost or need, Two by Two will fight for and take care of each of these precious souls. It’s amazing to see the brightness return into the eyes of an abandoned or abused dog. To see them learn that not every person is bad is truly a gift. Some may have behavior issues, but Two by Two stands firmly by them with a forever foster or with a perfect fit adopter. All pets adopted are promised a place with Two by Two if, for any reason, the adoption doesn’t work. Their main concern is for the best placement possible for each furry friend. Without Two by Two rescuing these sweet pets they would have never been blessed with their second chance.
Here are a few happy faces who now have forever homes.
I love this rescue so much that I have volunteered my time and I've fostered dogs for them. They give you everything you need so you just provide a home and love to the dogs. They are well organized and they know how to work with each other and other rescue groups in order to help as many dogs as possible. I highly recommend them to anyone who's interested in fostering a dog and anyone who's interested in giving money to a deserving group.
Four years ago Two by Two stepped up to save a little Dachshund who had been abused, run over, and was no longer wanted. They fought for him to have the life he deserved and entrusted me to be his mommy. He has taught me more about love, compassion, patience, and derrermination than I ever thought possible. He has helped his Doxie sister have confidence and boldness. And she has helped him learn that not all men hurt people and him. One of his favorite humans is now my dad. Without Two by Two’s selfless work, I would not be blessed with my sweet Brody who has one of the biggest hearts I know!

I adopted a sweet Dachshund from Two by Two last year. His foster mom remembered me from a previous meet and greet that did not work out. She contacted me and told me that this little boy she was fostering would be a perfect friend for my Dachshund. She was right. They are inseparable. I am forever greatful for Two by Two.
Fantastic organization with a soul of pure gold. Fully committed to each animal until its forever home is found.
I became familiar with Two by Two Animal Rescue four years ago when my son adopted a dog from them. At that time I was impressed with how the adoption was handled and the people I dealt with. As an animal lover, I saw the opportunity to be a part of this organization. I have attended fundraising and planning events. I have volunteered at adoption events and have fostered animals. This truly is a very special group of people and a very well-run organization
Two by Two Rescue and their volunteers work tirelessly to save those that our community has failed. They fight for the lives and rights of animals, even when doing so takes a personal and financial toll. The organization does wonderful work and deserves to be recognized for holding true to their mission statement and for making a difference in the lives of the animals they save and the families who gain new family members through their efforts.
This rescue is a true non-kill organization. The volunteers put animals before their own lives every time. They take care of their fosyer parents as well and are responsible in how they manage the nonprofit. I'm so happy I chose to foster through them!
I have seen close up the hearts of these rescuers! The animals are taken in despite age, medical needs, or expense potential. The mission is one placed on the hearts of these beautiful souls by God himself... and it is evident in the dedication and love lavished on even the most damaged and difficult to help animals. I’ve been nothing but inspired impressed by their work!
We visited several Two by Two adoption events before we found our perfect fit. Knowing that those dogs that we didn't pick would be returning to a loving foster home rather than to a cage and possible euthanasia gave us the freedom to be patient and find just the right fit. Wow, did we ever find it! The day we adopted our Sadie, we were able to meet not just her, but also her foster. We were able to ask questions about her likes and dislikes, temperament, and personality. She is the perfect dog for our family and we will be eternally grateful to Two by Two for keeping her safe, healthy and loved until our paths could cross!
I am so blessed to be a foster for this incredibly compassionate organization. Two by Two is passionate about serving abused, neglected, injured and unwanted pets. Regardless of breed, age or condition they always step up for those without a voice. We may rescue dogs but in reality they rescue our hearts! Two by Two serves a very large population in the Birmingham, Alabama area and runs strictly on donations and volunteers. Thankful to be a volunteer for this amazing organization!!
I always wanted my very own dog, and A little over 2 years ago I bought my first home and decided to adopt. I heard of Two by Two from one of my friends. I followed their Facebook page until I saw the cutest puppy and knew I had to meet her. When I finally saw her I knew she was suppose to be mine. There was only one problem her twin was the only other puppy not adopted. I couldn’t leave her and the volunteers told me they are easier in pairs , so the puppies literally came Two by Two. About 6 months later I felt a calling to adopt a 3rd puppy (call me crazy). Now I have my 3 best friends ❤️ The staff was nothing, but nice and helpful.
After losing my last senior German Shepherd I decided I wanted a puppy to have with me for many years. Sabrina’s cute face came across my FB Page a nd I knew I had to have her! I did some research on Sonya king & I just loved her ingenuity of how to quickly meet a need in Al. I reached out to them from Minnesota not sure if they would allow it. They worked with me to check all my references, I sent them videos of my house/yard. I remember telling them about taking in senior dogs and having my heart ripped out when each one would pass away. They helped arrange volunteer transport and I started my journey to pick on Sabrina May. I fell in love with this Feisty girl & it’s been an exciting journey thus far!!
Sonya and two by two helped me adopt out 7 puppies after the pregnant dog and another dog followed me home. She was there for their birth, shots, trips to adoption events. ❤️ Her and all the staff at two by two.
We have 3 dogs - all from Two by Two Rescue! This organization does an awesome job of fostering and getting dogs ready for their forever homes.
I am a foster that used to find homes for strays that I ran across alone. I would find homes for them but could not provide vet care or background checks. TwoByTwo is a great rescue. I have seen animals that I would not think could have a decent life from abuse make a complete turnaround. I have witnessed them clean a hoarder’s house for weeks to make sure they located every pet. I have one of those foster animals now and she is amazing. They have a network of volunteers that drop everything to aid any animal in need. I know the world is a better place because of the Work TBTsoes. Heather is a saint in my eyes and I am honored to work with her.
I adopted my Miss Prissy in 2005 from Two by Two Rescue which is a no-kill organization. I was in such awe of the amazing work they do, I became an advocate, foster, donor, and volunteer. I love that Two by Two takes dogs in regardless of medical condition, age or breed knowing that all lives matter and are precious. Once a Two by Two dog, the rescue is committed to them for life. Sometimes by saving a dog they are lead to help people in need too. Everyone involved with the rescue is treated as family. I am proud that Two by Two is considered a ministry and is known by all to be extremely reputable.
Two by Two rescued and fostered our furry friend, Daisy. Daisy's foster mom, Debbie still checks in to make sure we are doing well. The folks at Two by Two are as much an part of our family now as our furry friend!
Five years ago, we had to have our two dogs put down, due to cancer. A year later, Sonya King, Director of Two By Two Rescue and a friend of our daughter, asked if we might be interested in adopting a dog. At first, I was hesitate because as I've gotten older, I've gotten much closer to my dogs and it's harder to say goodbye to them. However, after hearing the story of the puppy that was in need of a forever home, I decided to go visit the puppy. Well, it as love a first sight. She ran to me and licked my face and we adopted her that day and named her "Angel". I was very impressed how careful Two By Two was with adoptions. I later became a Board Member and fully support their organization. They have a great group of volunteers.
Two by two is AMAZING! They are wonderful caregivers and stewards of all the animals in the rescue as well as all the resources donated. I have fostered several dogs through them and each is always a blessing. They care for each dog in the rescue and get him/her whatever medical attention or services they need, regardless of cost. Their slogan is "the good-hearted are kind to animals" and everyone in this rescue truly lives by that. This is such a worthy organization of support and donations.
I can't say enough about how much I love Two by Two Rescue. Thanks to them, this sweet pup has a wonderful home and we have a new treasured member of our family.
Over the past thirteen years I have adopted two wonderful dogs from Two by Two Rescue. Redford, a golden/lab mix was one of Sonya's and Andrea's first rescues. He was their rags to riches story...from the streets of Alabama to the beaches of Maine! He would love to go on family picnics and hikes in the woods. After his passing (he lived to 15) I reached out to Sonya to rescue another special dog. She introduced me to Gracie (yellow lab) and she has found a home on the coast of Maine! She has quickly learned to love ball retrieving and cooling down in the ocean. Two by Two is so deserving of recommendation for their fine work in helping animals in need!
Two By Two Rescue team is the best! I had seen a post on Facebook where a sick dog located at a nearby shelter was about to be destroyed if no one claimed him within a few days. I reached out to Two By Two with the information and asked if they would consider taking him in and they agreed! I was able to go get the dog and take him to the facility they use to treat sick animals. What wonderful work Sonya and the team does to help care for neglected, abused and abandoned animals! I'm so thankful for them. Although I'm unable to donate much time due to other work obligations in my life, I'm happy to donate monetarily when I can.
Without Two by Two, we would never have found our amazing pup. As a senior dog, not many people wanted him, but they saved him, nursed him to health and found a foster to help him adjust until we found him. We're so thankful for Two by Two and our sweet old man.
I see the good this pet rescue does for neglected, abandoned animals through social media. What these great volunteers do is no cake walk, but they do it for the love of the precious animals, God's little animals without a voice. These volunteers are their voice.
Being a foster family for this amazing group is life changing. Two by Two Rescue goes above helping animals in need.
I decided to Foster with 2x2. I filled out the online application and was emailed the following day a picture of my future best friend. I said, “YES” immediately! A few days later Heather dropped off Rodney. Rodney was found limping on the side of the road in Sylacauga. He was transferred to a high kill shelter. I am 95% positive he would have been euthanized within that same week. 1) Because he is a pit bull and 2) he was an injured pit bull. Rodney inevitably required his leg to be amputated. 2x2 didn’t bat an eye when Dr. Fuller, the head vet at Hope Animal Clinic, delivered the news. They simply said do what is best for Rodney. Fast forward 6 months and Rodney is doing wonderfully! Without 2x2 quickly grabbing him up and providing the necessary medical attention, Rodney wouldn’t be here today. If you are still reading this then know I failed at fostering. Rodney now lives with me in his furever home and I am forever grateful to 2x2!
I adopted one of the sweetest fur babies from Two By Two. I had the best experience with her foster. I think they do such great work and my prayers are with them daily as they rescue and give unconditional love to all animals in need.
I would recommend them to anyone looking for an animal to love and give a good home.
Two by Two Rescue is a caring Rescue and a non-kill rescue. I have supported this rescue for several years and follow them on Facebook. It is a nonprofit organization and helps rescues across our area. I was impressed even yesterday to see a call to supporters and friends from Two By Two when an older dog had been hit by a car and had no owner. Our rescue was called and they immediately helped by going to the site and taking this older animal to Hope Clinic for help. This has happened over and over and each time in cases most Rescue's could not or wouldn't be in a position to respond immediately. I would like to thank Sonya for her willing spirit, kind heart and inspired will to accept animals needing care. After each pet is vetted and sent to a foster home Two by Two Rescue searches for the perfect home for each pet personality. They are vitally needed in our area. Thank you Two By Two Rescue!Suppo
Two by Two Rescue is a charity that truly has the most passionate and caring hearts. Their mission will inspire you, as it did for our organization. The impact they had on our organization led us to nominating them for the prestigious national award of PGA TOUR Champions Charity of the Year. Out of thousands of charities in the country, they selected for this award in 2015. It could not have gone to a more well-deserving charity than Two by Two!
I vetted (pun intended) several animal rescue groups in my area to identify which one I felt was TOPS so that I could volunteer and donate to their work. Two by Two stood out far above the rest. Their leadership and volunteers are dedicated, caring, approachable, honest, and a delight to interact with. The Gold Star rating with Guidestar showed me their transparency as well as more detail about their values and goals. I am committed to Two by Two! I am a foster, donor, volunteer, and most recently an adopter!
Love Two by Two Rescue! I am an adopter, volunteer, and foster for them! They truely love people and animals and strive to help both! Carlos was the first dog I fostered for them. He had been hit by a car, had a broken leg, was emaciated, and had heartworms. They committed to save him and they did through three leg surgeries and heartworm treatment. Through months of fostering him and caring for him I could not let him go and adopted him!
I love fostering for Two by Two. They really care about every dog and that each dog finds a great home.
Two by Two Rescue goes above and beyond to care for neglected, abandoned & abused animals. Thier effort doesn't stop at just animals. Two by Two Rescue has helped a homeless man and his pet get on his feet again and just recently helped a family who's home burned to the ground. Two by Two Rescue shows the love of Jesus in everything they do.
