Causes: Education, Literacy, Remedial Reading & Encouragement
Mission: The mission of the tulsa literary coalition is to celebrate books and reading as a catalyst for reflection, exploration and connection. We affect social change and bridge cultural, ethnic and religious divides through literature;to leverage community resources by parnering with existing nonprofit organizations to help them achieve their missions by adding a literary component to their services; to foster the love of reading and build a community of book lovers in order to distill the literary energy in tulsa.
Programs: In 2017, tlc opened and operated, mcb, an independent bookstore with a meeting space for community programs. In addition, tlc's author series, booksmart tulsa, presented over 60 author events at mcb and around the community. Mcb & booksmart tulsa maintained partnerships with over 50 local non-profits, supporting and facilitating their events and programs. Partnerships from 2017 include: aha-hardesty arts center, all souls unitarianchurch, circle cinema, clarehouse, congregation b'nai emunah, greenwood cultural center, mused, philbrook museum of art, sherwin miller museum of jewish art, tulsa artist fellowship, tulsa ballet, tulsa community college - center for creativity, tulsa city county library, university of oklahoma-tulsa's learning center, university of tulsa - nimrod international journal and oklahoma center for humanities.
