TMA has a beautiful building filled with delightful art. The layout is unique while still being open and inviting. Unfortunately their formerly beautiful courtyard with red brick and welcoming trees has been replaced with a giant slab of cement to try and save on water. Now it looks sad and sterile, I feel bad for the future outdoor events.

The Tucson Museum of Art is strangely difficult to find, but it is very active and very enterprising. The organization has a bunch of different exhibitions and collecting areas, including some I'm ambivalent about (Western Art). The exhibitions I've seen however are really superb. Currently they have one called Miradas that includes Mexican art from the last century. and an exhibition of the ceramics of Rose Cabat. This is pretty extraordinary. I'm a fairly young person compared to the people I usually see at Museum's and first came to the TMA for a beer tasting event called Art on Tap. Since then, I've been following them a little more closely. They have a group called START that puts on alternative events as well which is open to younger adults and emerging artists. I wish all museums did this. For that matter, all arts organizations. I'm surprised by their programming. They're doing a public event called The Arts Speak that invites artists to display work for a day around themes and ideas they care about. This ain't your grandma's art museum.
