Mission: * Coach, encourage and direct young minorities to enter college. * Assist with course selection needed to qualify for entry into college. * Assist with college prep course selection throughout middle and high school. * Provide assistance in preparation for standardized testing that is required for college admission. * Empower and educate parents on the strategies necessary to navigate the educational system, to be observant, and see what children can become. * Provide options for continued education. * Prepare children to become effective learners. * Create an atmosphere of self-worth and build self-esteem.
Target demographics: help African American youth in K-12 and college to achieve success and increase learning and develop opportunities for education.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 600 students through various programs throughout the year.
Geographic areas served: Tucson and surrounding communities
Programs: SAFE - Summer Academic Foundations for Enrichment that staves summer learning loss; AAYHD - African American Youth Heritage day, where over 600-800+ high school students participate in first-hand workshops in areas of interest for higher education and career opportunities; Read2Succeed, an in-school program that raises below grade reading levels for African American students; HBCU Tours, a semi-annual immersive experience to see Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Students have scholarship opportunities and witness success opportunites and relevent culture.
