Causes: Art Museums, Arts & Culture
Mission: The preservation, acquistion, and exhibition of historic and contemporary southwestern art, so that the public can appreciate and understand the desert heritage of the desert southwest and its surrounding areas. The museum will educate through displays, education programs, and group tours for children and adults.
Programs: Museum admissions for educational tours are approx 400-900 guests per month. Regularly hosts school tours and classes for free, focusing on the history and arts of the desert southwest. This year topics included: "dazzled eye" history of the navajo indians, and japanese american interment camp in the southwest,a commemoration of events for the japanese american attornies and their relatives through movies and special speakers.
provide space for local artists to display and sell their work to museum guests. Educate the guests about the regional culture and history of the subject matter.
gallery displays pottery, jewelry, and artwork for sale to museum guests. All items for sale focus on the desert southwest and regional culture. Every item includes informative educational material about the cultural group, artist, and historical importance.
host featured artist events for approx 60-100 guests and regional small group workshops for 10-15 participants. Events and workshops focus on the history and regional culture of the southwest. Hosted art organization events included national juried art competition for american women artists.
