Programs: Santa cruz heritage alliance program accomplishments for 2014the 2014 program accomplishments focus on heritage tourism and heritage-based community education. Heritage tourism1. A major initiative was to partner with the city of tucson and the southwest center (university of arizona) to prepare a nomination to unesco for tucson to become a city of gastronomy. The nomination documents in detail the diverse culinary traditions of our region. If designation is achieved, there would be a significant heritage tourism benefit to tucson and the surrounding region. 2. The alliance website promotes a diversity of local heritage destinations for visitors and local community members. Our on-line map heritage experiences of the santa cruz valley and the uniquely tucson app developed in partnership with visit tucson provide information about tucson-area and santa cruz valley heritage resources. Heritage-based community education1. The alliance sponsored a historic lecture series. Lectures were presented in the public library in green valley. Six lectures by well-known experts highlighted diverse topics related to santa cruz valley history.
