Mission: The Tommy Two Shoes Literacy Project for Children's goal is to help encourage literacy within the youth of Arizona using our free book giveaway program. As educators, businessmen and women, parents, and grandparent, we are concerned that there are many children who do not have books at home and struggle with reading because of it. Our mission is to help improve reading skills by exciting children through our Read Day Event and provide each student in attendance with their own brand-new personal book to take home and keep. Reading is the most crucial academic skill because it is the foundation for learning. When children struggle with reading, they will also struggle with math, science, history, etc. Their academic careers and their future depend on being proficient in reading. That is where the Tommy Two Shoes Literacy Project for Children comes in. We will be the advocate for encouraging these students to read by igniting their passion through our free book giveaways.
Results: On our first Read Day Assembly we were able to partner with Schneider & Associate CPAs, P.C. and help donate over 100 books to Desert Sun Academy for their preschoolers. The excitement from all the children spoke multitudes of how much joy they felt from receiving their own book. Jennifer Auh from Fox10 was there and covered our story. Target demographics: Preschool and Elementary School age Children
Geographic areas served: Arizona
Programs: We serve children ages 4-11, they come from all different ethnic backgrounds and income levels. We believe that no matter the background that every child deserves a new book to help encourage literacy. Arizona is 47th in students reading above basic 4th grade reading level. Our goal is to work to change this metric and improve the statistic that illiteracy has on those who are below even the 3rd grade reading level. We know the importance literacy is for the youth and the path students, who are struggling in reading, will have later in life. If a student struggles with reading they will also struggle in all other subjects; creating a life of hardship for that child. We want to be the advocate to help encourage these students to read through our free book giveaway
This is an incredible organization that promotes literacy in young children. I love that with every event a child gets to take their own book home to read. Literacy is so important in the success of every child’s school carrier and this organization does an amazing job at promoting literacy with their fun read day assemblies.
I’ve donated several times to this organization because I believe in their mission statement to improve literacy in children at risk of falling behind. There is no better time then now after all we have been through with COVID to reach out and help our community.
Couldn’t think of a better nonprofit! Their goal is something I think everyone can support and see the benefits of as well as see the good it does for communities.
The idea behind this project is amazing, it supports schools as well as the kids. Reading is so important and this charity is working hard to get books in the hands of EVERY kid. Love love love their work.
This is an amazing non-profit. All volunteers, they work very hard in helping children read. Their Reading for Daisy & Max is a great program and we are passing onto other schools to let them know about this Program. Special Thanks to Thomas. Courtney and Howard for their help. All dog lovers should sponsor a school. or send money to bring it to a school.
Being able to be part of this amazing project has been an experience of a lifetime. Watching each of the children get their own free book to take home was priceless. I will never forget one student who said having this new book made his imagination run wild. That is the joy of the Tommy Two Shoes Literacy Project is to bring excitement to children to encourage reading at home. We all know that reading is fundamental, and if kids get excited about it now while they are young the more likely they will continue to have a passion for reading when they are older. If you haven't yet you need to get involved with this project, either as a sponsor or as a teacher. Hands down you will not be disappointed!
What a great program to promote literacy. Local businesses get recognized in their own community in paying forward, children get new books to read and take home, and teachers have another tool to promote reading. Everyone should get involved! Ttsliteracyproject.org
I had the privilege of sponsoring a Read Day and going to share the joy of reading to the students! It was truly an enjoyable experience. I always loved reading to my own children when they were young, and now I am reading to my grandchildren. I have seen the value of reading and childhood literacy first hand! Thank you, Tommy Two Shoes for your vision and the work you do!
Tommy 2 Shoes was an amazing experience for our developmental preschoolers! They generously have a book to each student and read and discussed an engaging story of friendship. Thank you Tommy 2 Shoes for sharing your love of books with our preschool.
