Mission: We bring children together in teams of music learners and makers, to develop their minds, imagination, and community. The organization works with partners in the capital city region to provide early-childhood music learning, to support teachers in weaving music into a child's school day, and to create opportunities for grade-school children to make music together. Through music, the organization inspires people to reach their fullest potential.
Target demographics: promote social development through ambitious and joyful pursuit of musical excellence
Direct beneficiaries per year: Four preschool centers, and students from fourteen schools in and around Trenton, for a total of 635 students and some 1800 family members.
Geographic areas served: Trenton, New Jersey and the surrounding communities
Programs: Music for the Very Young, our preschool music, teacher mentoring and family engagement program; Pre-Orchestra, our online parent-child music and introductory strings program which operates in partnership with Union City Music Project in Northern New Jersey; Orchestra, which gathers students Grades 2-12 four days per week for rehearsals, small-group and individual instruction, music theory, leadership, improvisation, collective composition and music production; Chamber Ensemble for our most accomplished players, which performs most frequently and learns to play without a conductor; Internships, paid and unpaid, for our high school students.
This school is the only music school in Trenton, the only place people can get instruction on any instrument, regardless of their talent or their income. Mostly they teach 8 yr. old beginners on piano, but they also have adults learning sax and bass, as well as preschool music classes. It's a happy place. www.tcmusicschool.com
